Founding Farmers - Montgomery County
While our restaurant is supplied by hundreds of family farms everywhere, that doesn’t mean we know every farm, and that doesn’t mean we never have to buy product from the traditional (corporate) supply chain, but it does mean we’re working hard to direct our purchasing dollars where it aligns with our values.
We’re serving the best food we can, made from scratch in our kitchens every day. Our innovative, American dishes are made primarily with pure ingredients honoring the farmers and their hard-earned bounty.
The restaurant is upscale casual, which welcomes business casual dress, and dress that would be appropriate in a nice restaurant; this includes jeans and athletic wear, and warm-weather clothing, including shorts.

I think one of the thing that this location lack, is overall friendliness. Check-ins is always not inviting. Waiters are straight forward, no personality. And it’s also not kid-friendly place. There is no coloring/crayons to help entertain them. This pastexperience, I had to also ask for kids water even thought the waiter see that I have a 4year old with us. He first gave her a glass cup. And they also placed us in a balcony section on the second floor, where I had to watch my daughter not standing up over to prevent her from going over the balcony. We asked for a regular booth, but was told that there wasn’t any. Yet, there were a lot of empty ones just were not set. Other than the above, food was great, thus why I have rate this 3.
Brunch: we all ordered traditional eggs Benedict and they came out warm, at best. Ham was tasteless. Disappointed. Other meals, other times were fine.
Hannah and Maddy were great
If it doesn't say reservations recommended, it should. You'll wait for an hour if you decide to just pop-in. They've got good food at reasonable prices. There's a great variety on the menu, so everyone is bound to find something they like. Service was great.
I've been to FF for breakfast and dinner. On a weekend, at any time of the day, don't think you can just drop in. And when you do get seated, don't expect to converse easily with your dining partners. The place is crowded and loud.
Food was very good. The pot roast was good, but the meat was a bit dry. The chocolate pudding was amazing and huge. Easily 4 could eat. The apple pie and ice cream was fabulous too; again, need at least 2-3 people.
Easy to get to. Good vegetarian food. Good service. Accommodating.
Great breakfast! I had scrambled eggs, bacon, biscuit, and leek hash browns. The bacon was top-notch, as was the biscuit. We also ordered the beignets to share, and they came out hot, fluffy, and delicious. Definitely recommend this place, and we will be returning!
Scallops were slightly undercooked. Will return soon for lunch with a business friend.
Always a great choice. All of the staff are friendly and helpful. I frequent this place on the weekends and I am never disappointed.
Very busy but good food
OMG!! The NOISE!! Impossible!!
As always the food was fantastic, the service terrific (the bar slow as always, but worth the wait), BUT ... the NOISE! No one could hear anyone/thing without shouting. Horrible!!!
Reluctant to return, although many prior visits were fine. No idea on why the difference.
Table placement? Always busy -okay, full- before but NEVER like this.
Will only venture back at deadest time of service. And then alone, as a test run.
So sad, I LOVE THIS PLACE. Make that “loved”. And wanting so much to love it again!!
wonderful event and wonderful waiter..Danny It was very hot and we sat outside so we would not have to wait. It would be smart to have umbrellas on all the tables, that way more could be seated. We won these tickets from the Cherry Blossom festival and will come back again. Did not like the menu in some of the other ones as much.
No kids menu for brunch. Food was good, but coffee/speciality latte & tea took a long time to arrive (our waiter even joked that the mint tea must still be growing downstairs).
came for brunch to celebrate my disabled mother’s 75th birthday. like every time, they were able to accommodate her wheelchair without issue. the server (i wish i’d gotten her name; she’s wonderful) was swamped, but went out of her way to make us feel like she provided her full attention. we’ll continue to go here for weekend family breakfast as long as they’ll have us. highly recommend it.
It was good night out but a little expensive for food and drink.
Great food and service. A bit too noisy and loud to hold comfortable ongoing conversation though.
Excellent food, friendly staff, and abundant parking in the garage make this an easy option to agree on!
The waiter was obviously new, but not knowledgeable at all. We specifically said one of us cannot eat any black better, so he had to keep coming back several times, didn't know what was in some of the dishes, forget our appetizer until we asked the manager, etc. We ordered a veggie burger with cheese, no onions; first it came with no cheese or onions, then it came with both. The food was good (though over-priced), but service needs an upgrade.
Great dishes and Great staff.
Not so expensive, but awesome!
The staff was very friendly and we were seated quickly. Our Waitress was very nice and answered ?s regarding some menu items to our liking. Shrimp & Grits / Steak & Enchiladas were AWSOME !
Good restaurant. It was a little loud. We would go bad. The food was good
I have tried to be fair to this place and still am puzzled by the hostesses that work there! So biased that I will not go back! Pure and simple
We had a great waitress. Would definitely go again.
The service staff was slow and non responsive. She was focused on another table that I guess she thought she was going to get a bigger tip. The food was not good. The fried chicken taste like it came out of a box. The macaroni and cheese was watery. The shrimp and grits was missing the grits. Overall, terrible food and someone told me to go here because the food was awesome. It was terrible!
This was my 4th time eating at Founding Farmers. We decided to do a brunch birthday celebration. I have to say I was disappointed this time. Food seemed like it had been sitting for awhile (biscuits and the bacon), eggs were very runny. We had to wait for butter and jam for our biscuits. Our server was very pleasant but food experience was definitely disappointing.
This restaurant is on "my never again list". We had a reservation. When we arrived we had to wait for about 20 minutes to be seated along with a crowd of other people outside of the restaurant. The tables are arranged too close together. You can reach out and touch the people seated next to you. It was very noisy and you could hear other people's conversations.
My husband ordered the original pancakes and they gave him chocolate chip. Thank goodness there was a busboy who was willing to exchange my husbands pancakes because our waiter was no where to be found. My cousin ordered the Founding Farmers (FF) breakfast platter which includes a meat, two eggs, a choice of a side and a choice of bread. She asked for eggs "over easy" and she got fried eggs. My cousin's biscuit was cold and hard as a rock.
None of us ate our bacon which was under-cooked. I must admit I enjoyed my "Bourbon batter French toast with banana foster (an additional $3). The portions given for pancakes (3 large fluffy pancakes) and french toast are very generous. The $13 mimosas are overpriced and bitter. We drove one hour to get to this brunch which is too far to go if you are not very satisfied.
Even though the restaurant was very busy, the servers all did their best to provide the best service possible.
I would not recommend for breakfast, my French toast was very crisp with no flavor. I couldn't eat it. The waffle, my husband said was good. I have been there for lunch it was very good. Disappointed in breakfast.
The food is good, everyone is friendly, but they can't time the courses to save their lives... this time (it's happened every time we've dined at this location), we sit down, order drinks and begin looking at the menu. Drinks don't show up, but server comes back to take our order, we order apps but are still deciding on entrees. Waitress comes back to take our entree order and brings apps and drinks. We order our entrees turn over the menus begin eating apps. 5 minutes later our entrees are dropped off. There was no room on the table, we hadn't even finished half of the apps. Not even an apology from the server. I worked in the restaurant industry for 17 years. You only do this if you want to force people through their meals so can refill the tables, but it completely ruins the dining experience. ....Good news is that its an easy fix if the management reads these!
Great meal and service. Our waiter was available, but not overbearing and did not make us feel rushed as we lingered for conversation after our meal.
We ordered the Turkey gruyere honey mustard sandwich and the bottom of the bread was completely burned ( black!!). Otherwise, wings and salad were fantastic.
I like the concept of from farm to table! Organic, tasty, healthy and still high standard. 👍👍👍
We went to Founding Farmers last night to celebrate a birthday. I've been to Farmers, Fishers, Bakers in DC and similarly this restaurant did not disappoint. Our server was friendly and attentive, and 2 additional managers came over to check how our experience was during our dinner. A bit noisier for a Monday than expected but it's a good sign when the restaurant is full.
Collectively we had the cornbread for an appetizer- delicious but not as sweet as i'd imagined! Entrees were delicious- I had the Glazed Cedar Plank Salmon, which I'll definitely try to replicate at home. The rest of our party had the Many Vegetable Mushroom Loaf, Chicken & Waffles, Crispy Shrimp, and special Sockeye Salmon. If you order dessert, I'd recommend sharing- the portion sizes are huge! I had the Butternut cake, and we also ordered the Blue Ribbon Apple Pie and the Triple Layer Chocolate Mousse cake. All 5 of us could have easily shared 1-2 portions with plenty leftovers!
This was a great find for a variety of diets (plenty of Vegan/Vegetarian options). If it was closer to home I'd be back sooner!
I always like the atmosphere at FF. Their apps are good.
Ribs so-so. They always prepare fish nicely. The glazed salmon was good - but a little heavy on glaze. Burgers great.
When asked about the ingredients for one of the items, the waiter explained that not only did he not know no one knew. Intrigued, we looked it up online and got the ingredient within 5 minutes of searching. No excuse for a lazy waiter.
Service was phenomenal, from the manager Kim to our server Sydney, everything was top notch. They really went out of their way to make a bday memorable. Only deficit was our booth appeared to have been directly under an A/C vent, so it was chilly the entire time, but that didn't take away from the service or food.
Loved it so much! Will definitely come back and also recommend to friends. I especially love that we can bring our own wine bottle. You guys are great!
Really disappointing meal. I’ve been to the FF in Tyson’s and it was awesome, so this was a let down. First, it took us over 30 minutes just go get our drinks. We had a reservation for 2pm and didn’t have drinks until about 2:45. It wasn’t even slammed for brunch so this was odd.
Second and most importantly - they CANNOT accommodate any gluten free meals! My friend has celiac and cannot eat gluten, so when asked the manager even said he couldn’t safely recommend the salad because all of the stations could have wheat and may not be properly cleaned... what?!? So how do they accommodate any food allergy? And why aren’t they properly cleaning food stations?
Finally - my sister ordered the chicken pot pie, which looked delightful, but unfortunately was 3/4 onion and very little other ingredients.
Wish I had better things to say, but don’t bother with this FF location.
