Founding Farmers - Montgomery County
While our restaurant is supplied by hundreds of family farms everywhere, that doesn’t mean we know every farm, and that doesn’t mean we never have to buy product from the traditional (corporate) supply chain, but it does mean we’re working hard to direct our purchasing dollars where it aligns with our values.
We’re serving the best food we can, made from scratch in our kitchens every day. Our innovative, American dishes are made primarily with pure ingredients honoring the farmers and their hard-earned bounty.
The restaurant is upscale casual, which welcomes business casual dress, and dress that would be appropriate in a nice restaurant; this includes jeans and athletic wear, and warm-weather clothing, including shorts.
I keep coming in for lunch and not trying brunch. The Brie Farmhouse Bread was the best thing that we received. I wasn't crazy about the Shrimp and Grits and they had no more apple pie for me to try for dessert.
Good experience! They can expand the operation by opening a couple of more restaurants in German town, Rockvile, Bethesda area.
I always enjoy weekday breakfasts here. Maria is an excellent server - extremely attentive and kind. Maddie is an amazing manager. She looks after every detail to ensure that each experience is consistently wonderful.
We were a party of 6. One meal was brought much later than others. Did not care for my salad. Bacon had too much Smokey flavor
We like FF best for brunch. Food was delicious. Beignets seemed to take longer than the promised 20 minutes. Glad we made a reservation; we were seated promptly on a Sunday around 1pm -- when the place was really crowded. Server was a little disappointing. Seemed a little dour. Maybe it was the crowd or perhaps she was new and a little overwhelmed. She took our order promptly but then seemed to disappear except to clean the table. Still our go-to for brunch on special occasions.
I have been here twice and have ordered the same dish - Platter with mini cheeseburgers, chili dog, and ribs. I didn't care for the chili dog and asked if I could have more ribs. First time was okay, no problem. The second time, okay but $2 extra. Noise level is pretty bad, you must speak with raised voices. That is not an enjoyable dining experience. Service both times were excellent.
We come here every time we come to DC! The selections are unique and the food is flavorful and delicious.
Wildly overrated, low food quality and crowded. Very little value
Great dining experience! I can’t wsit to come back!
Always a good time whenever I visit any Founding Farmers location. The service is consistently impeccable; servers are friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable of the menu. Food and drinks are reliably hot, delicious, and perfectly seasoned Every. Single. Time. Favorite restaurant through and through!
The food was great, but I especially want to recommend the customer service. We had a complaint about our dinner and told our waiter. Within 10 minutes we had heard from one of the executives that it's a frequent complaint they get and they brought us reinforcements. They really went the extra mile to make us happy and we really appreciated it. My wife and I are happy to recommend FF for both food and hospitality.
Great food , prompt service !
From the wine to the meals and service, everything was outstanding.
I will return to Founding Farmers real soon. The food is great, the ambiance wonderful and the prices are reasonable for a rather upscale restuarant.
I live in Arkansas. When I come to visit, this is a must eat place for me.
Great breakfast; fresh selections.
Food was good. Service was great. Way too loud though!
Early dinner reservation at 5:30, 2 adults and 2 teens. The restaurant had plenty of open tables w nice lighting. The hostess tried to seat us twice in the dark next to busing stations. Our party was nicely dressed, didn’t understand the undesired seats?
I've been several times for lunch with friends. The food is always good but a little inconsistent. On two different visits I had the crispy shrimp. The corn bread that came with was hot one time, and I swear it came with butter, the next it was cold, almost refrigerator cold, and no butter. It only got colder while I waited for the butter. The food is perhaps a little over priced, and because of that we don't go as often as we might. Service is better than OK but I wouldn't give it 5 stars. When I've asked for things it takes a while to get them. The noise level, however, is horrible. My friends and I feel like we're shouting to be heard. The food will keep us coming back, but not often, because of the prices, but I wish they could do something to the acoustics to dampen the noise level.
This year we went to Founding Farmers for Valentine's Day dinner. While I would recommend Founding Farmers in general, I would not recommend going on a holiday or night they might be busy as the quality of both food and service decreases substantially when they are busy. For Valentine's Day we ordered our drinks and received mine fairly quickly but then waited 20 minutes for my husbands to arrive. A very similar situation occurred with our meals. Mine arrived first and my husbands arrived about 10 minutes later. Additionally, I ordered a rare steak, and what I received was medium rare on the inside and scorched on the outside. This was definitely not a great experience, however, on days where they aren't quite as busy, they do a much better job.
Valentine's day so keep that in mind. We were immediately rushed to make food and drink selections the second we sat down. They obviously wanted us in and out as quickly as possible for later reservations. Flatbread appetizer came out without a main ingredient (goat cheese) that couldn't have been more obvious if just looking at it. One of the main courses was a stew that for some reason tasted like someone had dumped a cup of cinnamon into it. Later we found out that cinnamon is part of the marinade of the beef, but was not listed on the menu. You would think a powerful, specific flavor like cinnamon would be mentioned somewhere in the description. They did comp our drinks but the dinner was already a disaster.
They sat us by the bar so it was a little noisy but everything else was great. The food was good and our waiter was very attentive. All in all it was a great night!
Place is awesome. Very good price for what you get. Try the coffee/ vodka cocktail, it’s wonderful
It’s all just OK. Tasty but heavy on dressing or sauces. It’s a good place, just not great so don’t overly have high expectations.
Food was outstanding and the service was attentive.
Celebrated a new employee joining the team. Our server was very attentive and kind.
Average. Food is ok. Nothing special. Service was ok, Reasonably attentive if a bit green. Best thing about this place is the large menu. Everybody can find what they like.
Our waiter was very nice about checking on ingredients for my friend who has dietary restrictions. I love the meatloaf. The manager came over to make sure that we were happy with our meals and the service. He somehow knew we had been there before and welcomed us back...a nice touch. I will definitely return.
We have had a quarterly brunch here for 5 years. This was the first time we all agreed we may need to look for a new brunch spot. Service was awful—forgotten items several times and super slow. Noise level was crazy and too crowded. I requested an upper booth on Rez and was ignored. Food also just average.
Consistently good food. 15 min wait for our table but not too bad.
This is my wife’s favorite restaurant. We had to wait 15 minutes to be seated even though we had a reservation and were on time. Once seated, she ordered meatloaf without gravy. It cane out with gravy and she had to wait again. The manager was nice, but overall the experience was subpar.
Fresh food, good service, wonderful prices...always a good experience
Made a reservation (party of 4) for 11 am on a Sunday, was seated at 11:40. Granted, they’re very busy on the weekends. The staff does their best, however this was the second time I’ve been seated much later than the reservation time I made for this location.
Besides that, every experience at this location has been marvelous!
Even though we had reservations we still had to wait 45 minutes. Food was amazing like always. Service was also really good...
Even though we had a reservation for two, we still had to wait about thirty minutes to be seated. The host explained that they were backed up and we understood, but still disappointing as we had a movie to go to. When we were seated we were greeted right away and she got our orders. However after that I didn’t see our waitress again till I had to flag her down for the check. On the plus side the food was absolutely incredible. I love the crab cake cake egg Benedict and the biscuits were to die for.
They were very busy but able to handle the crowd smoothly.
We had to do it. Use our $20.19 coupon FF gave us during breakfast there on New Year's day. If we hadn't, it was gonna expire soon. But, hey, we love the food...oatmeal and a pancake for him and some healthy bowl thing for her. Even the nearby kids were well behaved. We'll be back...even without a coupon (though New Year's breakfast there is now a given).
The waiter was great. Our server was Jackson. He was friendly, courteous and helpful. Service was great
We had reservations for a party of 6 and they tried to squeeze us into a 4 top. To be fair, they moved us upon request but it was frustrating that they would try this in the first place. 6 chairs didn’t even come close to fitting at the table, it was actually 2 2 tops pushed together. One pasta dish, the chicken Bolognese was delicious and moist but the shrimp bucatini had many clumps of stuck together noodles. Otherwise I believe our party was pleased with the food. Due to the food selection, delicious appetizers (Brie with apples and onion jam, skillet cornbread especially) and kind staff I am giving a rating of 4 despite the embarrassing seating situation and a few food disappointments. We always come back though!
Founding Farmers never disappoints. Even on a busy Saturday night, we got seated right away for our reservation. The noise level was moderate, so even though we were sitting right next to the bar, we still had no trouble conversing with our table mates. The food was, as always, fresh and fantastic - everyone at our table thoroughly enjoyed their meal. In addition, the cocktails are simply amazing - it is clear the mixologists take pride in their work, and it shows in the finished product.
Out waiter, Denzel (if that really is your name, lol), was helpful and attentive without being a nuisance. We will be back, for sure.
