About Founding Farmers - Montgomery County
MoCo's Founding Farmers is owned by the more than 40,000 family farmers of the NDFU, serving American inspired real food and drink with an emphasis and focus on cooking from scratch.
While our restaurant is supplied by hundreds of family farms everywhere, that doesn’t mean we know every farm, and that doesn’t mean we never have to buy product from the traditional (corporate) supply chain, but it does mean we’re working hard to direct our purchasing dollars where it aligns with our values.
We’re serving the best food we can, made from scratch in our kitchens every day. Our innovative, American dishes are made primarily with pure ingredients honoring the farmers and their hard-earned bounty.
The restaurant is upscale casual, which welcomes business casual dress, and dress that would be appropriate in a nice restaurant; this includes jeans and athletic wear, and warm-weather clothing, including shorts.

The bar at Founding Farmers is a truly unique and innovative experience, with true mixologists specially trained in 'bar-chefing'. Founding Farmers - Montgomery County Ratings and Reviews
Parking was easy and free. We were seated within 5 minutes of our reserved time. Table service was efficient, knowledgable and polite. Tea was served promptly and the meals--spatchcocked half chicken--were excellent, with tasty potatoes and gently cooked green beans. Vegetable substitutions were accepted. The place is noisy, though. Conversing was uncomfortable. Only that would prevent me from returning, and it may.
Was very disappointed in the brunch experience this time around. Was told by the waiter that Beignets were not available Because of “a problem with the batter”. We did not object but that’s a pretty strange excuse for not having one of the menu’s most popular items available for brunch.
Second, we ordered pancakes for our six-year-old because there is no children’s portion apparently available. Our waiter should have counseled us to reconsider the order, given the portion size. In fact, we had two people in our party order the same pancakes, including our six-year-old, and there was a lot of food left over. He did not say anything, however, and we ended up leaving with 2/3 of the pancake order. Your staff needs to do a better job, given your relative portion sizes, of proactively counseling patrons about their order size, rather than remaining silent. It was very annoying (and costly) and resulted in a disappointing experience.
As usual good food and friendly service but very disorganized and poorly coordinated delivery of food to table. It happens every time I have been at this or other founding farmers establishments. They need to fix this — very puzzled no they can never get it right.
Founding Farmers never fails to impress. The food is of course consistently fresh and delicious. The wait staff are attentive but not invasive. The ambiance inviting and not at all pretentious. We are always left with a feeling of contentment and satisfaction having eaten at Founding Farmers.
This restaurant really produced and was even better than expected. Service was excellent and the food was really done well. Every dish from fish, beef, to pasta was wonderful. We had a large group and everyone enjoyed the meal. Portions are large especially on dessert and appetizers so it's easy to share.
We went for my husband's birthday to try their new vegan burger. The service was great. We asked our waiter about wine options and he was very knowledgeable, and brought us samples of the two wines we were interested in. My son, who is ten, was with us, and he also enjoyed the meal.
Lots of interesting and unique items on the dinner and drink menus. Service was very friendly and helpful without being overbearing, exactly as it should be. The good food and service ensured a most pleasurable evening out for dinner. Would definitely recommend to friends and visit again.
Founding Farmers on New Year's Day was jam packed, every table full! We were seated on time for our reservation and given unbelievable attention. Our food was stellar and came out quickly. The wait staff made us comfortable and feel important the entire visit. When we left it was even busier! No stress it was a wonderful visit even with the crowds. We will be going back very soon. Thanks for taking care of us
I think the kitchen staff must have taken New Years Eve off early! We had 2 dirty place settings and 2 sets of dirty utensils at our New Year’s Day breakfast. We were given a leaking tea pot. It took 50 minutes to be served our breakfast after ordering. Also, what are they thinking charging $4.50 for a cup of regular coffee?
The food and service was excellent, but they didn't have a changing table in either the men's or women's restrooms. When I asked the hostess if they had a changing table for my 5 month old son, I was told there was a dresser in the handicapped restroom I could use. The dresser was very tall (if I wasn't wearing heels, I wouldn't have been able to reach my son safely (I'm 5'3)) and, it's a dresser, so it's super narrow and completely unsafe. Plus I'm taking away a restroom from an ADA-needing guest. I won't give my money to places/facilities that don't have these facilities, so we won't be back, unfortunately.
The food was delicious. I love ruebens and they ones the make are fantastic with apple slaw instead of the traditional sauerkraut and thick sliced corned beef. The seasonal veggies were great as well. Everything I have ordered has been great and fresh. Wait staff were great.
This is not meant to criticize the servers themselves as they were clearly overworked. They did their best. (Though bartender was screaming at apprentice the whole time, in plain view and hearing of customers. We were horrified).
Epic management failure to properly schedule needed staff. We came in for our 10 am reservation. Drink orders (coffee, tea, hot chocolate) were NOT taken until 10:20, drinks were not provided until 10:42. When we complained, we were told that “drinks are made to order”!?!?! Food finally arrived a bit over an hour from our getting seated. We had to rush eating in order to make our next appointment. In addition, the fire alarm was going on and off for over half an hour. Servers/management were going from table to table saying there was no fire, alarm is just sensitive.
Horrible overall experience where we brought guests from out of town for once in blue moon breakfast. One of the worst experiences we’ve had. Re: the alarm, this place has been here for many years and they still have not corrected “a sensitive alarm”? Come on folks - management needs to shape up.
Table beside us had the same bad experience.
I really enjoy Founding Farmers (in its various locations) and this time was no different. I know it might have been a busy day as one of the few restaurants open on Christmas but I did find the host a bit off-putting and that truly is the first interaction you have with a restaurant. I "walked-in" at first asking if there was a table for 3 available. It was freezing outside. He immediately said - we are not taking any walk-ins and was going to point me to the bar with my small son. I thought this was strange given that I found that this restaurant was open because a listing for a reservation at 7pm on Open Table. I get he was busy but I think there was a kinder way to respond. SO I took five minutes to make a reservation via the Open Table App and we were seated after about 15 min. Couldn't they have put in a reservation for me and then seated us? I get there is a disconnect with the technology but it just seemed bizarre and somewhat unprofessional that I had to talk to a computer and then I was able to get what I wanted. The host's interaction with me combined with the disconnect gave me a not-so-great feeling about this experience. But the food and table service (once we got there) was wonderful.
Although the food and service was great...there was a bird flying over our heads that the staff seemed to ignore. Sitting in the restaurant was like sitting outside on a windy, ice cold, December night. It was freezing cold! Either the windows need to be upgraded or additional heat sources added.
