Founding Farmers - DC
While our restaurant is supplied by hundreds of family farms everywhere, that doesn’t mean we know every farm, and that doesn’t mean we never have to buy product from the traditional (corporate) supply chain, but it does mean we’re working hard to direct our purchasing dollars where it aligns with our values.
We’re serving the best food we can, made from scratch in our kitchens every day. Our innovative, American dishes are made primarily with pure ingredients honoring the farmers and their hard-earned bounty.
The restaurant is upscale casual, which welcomes business casual dress, and dress that would be appropriate in a nice restaurant; this includes jeans and athletic wear, and warm-weather clothing, including shorts.

Had a reservation but still waited to be seated. Waited over an hour to get 2 diet cokes and green tomatoes. Waited another 45min to get entrees that had been sitting for awhile, so the shrimp was over cooked and food a little cold. Overall, poor experience.
12:30 reservation. Checked in 12:30. Told to wait in alcove upstairs. Had I not checked back in 20 minutes to find them looking for me downstairs, they probably would have given my table away. Seated 25 minutes after my reservation. We had a tight schedule and had shorten meal duration and adjust other plans.
Requested more bread to enjoy superb sauce. Bread charge $3. (Ultimately waived) Really? What a pretentious way to put a damper on an otherwise good meal. This is not a discount restaurant, and this policy was out of line with our expectations and meal bill.
Server was top notch.
Would not return.
Waited about 5-10 mins for our reservation. Rachel was a great server! Will definitely be back!!
The food is great and fun. You must have a reservation or it's a long wait.
It wasn’t bad it just wasn’t what it was that got my wife and I excited to visit. One of our favorite dishes that we order, the crab dip, was recently changed and doesn’t taste the same as the original. The drinks were ok, just not wow. The fried chicken which we get every time lacked the seasoning as before. Maybe we just have to take a step back from them for a while and visit them in a couple months
I still believe that using pagers will eliminate concerns of the patrons having someone else placed ahead of them.
Cocktails terrific, food delicious, a bit noisy but a fun place to dine- definitely recommend
Founding Farmers was recommended by multiple friends and it did not disappoint. The food was excellent. A must for DC trips!
The service was the absolute worst and the food was marginal, except for the carrot cake which was delicious.
For me the biggest issue is the lack of flexibility of the restaurant, for example to split a salad that is being shared, the expensive salads at a high cost. But I like coming here because it is convenient.
Our reservation was at 8:45 our table was not ready till after 9:15. No one seemed apologetic about the wait. Food was great! Service needs work.
This place never disappoints. Always great food, drinks, and service.
The food and service were excellent. Prices reasonable enough for DC. Our major complaint was the ambient noise level, which was HORRIBLE. We were at a two person table and literally had to shout at each other the entire time in order to be heard in a normal conversation. They definitely need an acoustic engineer to work on this issue.
Food is good， but we waited for a long time to get our foods
La Paloma was a great drink! Chicken and waffles were good!
It was my first time eating at this establishment. I loved the food and the ambiance was quite energetic!!!!!
The servers were friendly and intuitive, anticipating your needs in advance. Loved the cornbread and the chicken and waffles dish. Tried stuffed dates wrapped in bacon -AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I came here for a special occasion and was happy with the whole experience. The food was excellent, service was attentive and friendly, and the ambiance was warm and inviting.
Founding Farmers has been a family favorite for a while now! It's always great, but the hostess stand can be a little disorganized-seeming.
As usual, the service and the food were great!
Typically FF is great but this time the service and food was poor. From the initially greeting to the waiter who seemed like they didn’t want to wait on us... it was very disappointing.
The bacon lollipops were not on the breakfast menu, but they were able to bring us two orders.
The food is okay, but this place has a very unfriendly and unhelpful staff, from the hostesses, to the waiter, and to a lesser extent the manager. I can see why the WP gave it 0 stars. Their attitude is infuriating and it’s just not worth it.
This place always has something for everybody! Great ambiance, good energy. Its a great restaurant.
This place is always so very loud it’s uncomfortable to dine here. Sad, because the food is very good!
Love it. Food is great and drinks are fabulous! Tables are too close together and the bartender was a bit slow but otherwise, it’s great.
I met a client for Breakfast and it was GREAT but very loud as she was very soft spoken so I could barely hear her :-(. Other than that it was wonderful!!
I'm changing from initial review where they couldn't even seat me. This time around there were no rowdy people at the front spilling drinks on the floor, and if anyone brought their drinks to the door and block the door they were told to stand to the side politely.
The food is always amazing. We were served really fast and stopped by for a quick bite on Sunday night! We ordered the Chicken Pasta and Pot Roast. Both were phenomenal!
Thank you so much for fixing my concerns and giving us an amazing meal!
This is a great spot to meet up with friends who are visiting! I will say the wait can be long - I reserved a spot for 11am and didn't get seated until 11:15 or 11:20.
The wait time for drinks was long suggest better trained bartenders
Beautiful restaurant, food was great! Steak cooked perfectly! My only complaint would be that the tables are kinda close together so you end up involved in everyone else’s conversations.... overall amazing though!
Out of friends visist
Had a reservation for 6 people at 630 was seated by 645....atmosphere is vibrant, not to noisy, but active.....the food was delicious, everyone in my party was satisfied with their dish, my only gripe was our server, he took our order, but never asked if we wanted drinks, we had to tell him, he seemed in a rush everytime he came to the table, which was far in between, we had to ask for extra table settings 3 times....he seemed un interested in serving us ....and took forever to bring the check, and then brought the wrong check and took forever to come back.....maybe Mark had an off night...otherwise I would go back....recommend making reservations, I heard wait times for 90 mins
As always... great food and great service! The Prime Rib was awesome!
They finally seated us 40 minutes after our reservation, one of our party was brought the wrong beer, and the steak-frites was overdone and dry for being so expensive. The ambiance is nice, but the service was poor and the food is over-hyped.
We were celebrating a birthday & then to the Warner Theatre with friends.
Food was really good. Wait wasn't bad. Good service as well. Reviews were right
Very good food. Make reservation s to avoid lengthy wait.
This place really is amazing. The service was a little spotty and I think it’s too noisy for my taste. However, the food was incredible. It’s very well balanced and delicious and the workers clearly care about delivering a wonderful culinary experience, which is what I had.
