Founding Farmers - DC
The restaurant was nice enough but a bit overrated in my opinion.
Great food...great menu. Something for everyone
We had breakfast. It was amazing including a meal for my vegan daughter.
Great location, menu, and food. Fun vibe. We all enjoyed! I had the Impossible Meatloaf and it was really delicious. Reservations are recommended!!
It is loud and busy, but super yummy. Get the Mac n cheese!
This restaurant was very dirty, not like Tyson's which is always pristine. Additionally, it was extremely warm inside.
Would like to see more a la carte items on the brunch menu (eggs, especially).
Food was amazing! Easy to find. Would recommend making a reservation, especially on the weekends!
We had brunch here on a Sunday afternoon. Even with a reservation, we had to wait about 30 minutes for a table. The food is very good here and reasonably priced. This was my second time dining here & it's quickly becoming one of my DC favorites!
I have only had brunch here but truthfully it is a great choice. It is very reasonable for Washington standards and the food and service are very good. The only problem with this restaurant is that it is popular so the wait is long. The answer is get a reservation BUT you may have a wait anyway. My experience is it is worth it, so be patient and you will be rewarded. It is really worth worth waiting for.
Not my first rodeo at this busy Founding Farmers location; I called ahead to see if their reservations were behind and the gentleman on the phone said no and for my small party to arrive on time. Upon arrival, they were 30 minutes behind and, as usual, bursting with people who had nowhere to go while they waited. Food was fine, but not up to the usual standard. The breakfast meals were room temperature with stone cold toast. My fries were cold and floppy and had to be sent back.
They really need to extend their reservation times, as it's a constant struggle to even walk to the hostess booth to check in when you have a reservation. I understand food taking a bit longer when busy, but it shouldn't be cold.
Went for my Cousins birthday. It is ALWAYS busy here, so please make a reservation as if your life depended on it. Everything was delicious and the never disappoint. I got the chicken and waffles, which are to die, so highly recommended. Besides that, you should keep going here to try everything on their menu, it’ll always be with it. Service was just as worthwhile, btw
I love this place but the disconnect between the bar and getting drinks upstairs is quite annoying. It took my brother 45 minutes to get a Bloody Mary while my wife and I had two orders of Mimosas. There needs to be a drink runner for upstairs. Also, my brother had long hairs in his eggs but the restaurant took that off the bill and understandable.
Hi MitchellF: I am really sorry to read about the slow delivery of our drinks during your visit this last weekend. Please know, our Management Team takes all feedback to heart and will look into what happened. That said, we do hope to have you, your wife and brother back for another try! I will send you a PM with my email address to connect further. -Amy
Great service, great food! Even though we had a reservation, we had to wait 30 minutes to get seated. This seemed to be the case with everyone else as well. If anyone plans to visit, be prepared to wait.
Only one bad thing about this place is the wait to get a table, even with a reservation. It’s 25 minutes beyond the reservation time to get a table.
Hi PamR: Thank you for sharing your review with us. I am so sorry for the delay you encountered this time, and our team really appreciates your patience. Please know, our Management Team is looking into what happened this past Sunday and will absolutely apply your feedback towards improving our accommodation time for reservations. the water was warm . the waitress barely came around . we had to ask multiple people for silver ware & it was weirdly crowded . My boyfriend & I are young people so many waiters don’t treat us with respect with the assumption that we wont tip well . but we would have tipped big if our service was big . Do better & you would have gotten a $50
Hi Lesl: Thank you for sharing your review with us. I am very sorry to read that the service was inattentive, and your overall experience ended on a low note. :( We appreciate you letting us know these details and sincerely apologize for the terrible impression we left you & your boyfriend with. That said, I'd love to touch base and will send you a PM with my email address. -Amy
Fresh, delicious, plentiful food. Service was a tiny bit slow but probably due to the popularity and large crowd when we were there. It was definitely not enough of a problem to hurt our experience. We will definitely visit again when in DC
Thankfully I made a reservation ahead of time! Even though I came after the big brunch rush, it was still pretty packed and there was a nice wait time. It only took a few minutes to be seated and orders were taken soon after. Our waitress was a delight! The food choices - chicken and waffles and the spicy chicken sandwich - were okay, but were plated very nicely. I’ll definitely be back again, just with different entrees and maybe trying the brunch!
We were seated an HOUR after our reservation. They were not honest with their time estimates, and continually claimed we would be seated shortly... Once seated, I told the server about our experience and her response was "oh, yeah that's just the way it is here on weekends" with a shrug. What?? How is that an appropriate response? Why even take reservations then? VERY unimpressed with the overall experience here.
Hi ShannonK: I am SUPER sorry to read that we were an hour behind on your reservation time during your visit this past weekend. :( Our team feels awful that we started your experience off on the wrong foot, and I would love the chance to touch base. I will send you DM with my contact info. -Amy
The food was incredible! Highly recommend going for brunch, my roommates and I really enjoyed it! Be prepared for a wait, even if you have a reservation. We waited almost 30 minutes to be seated even with a reservation but the food was worth the wait!
We went for brunch for my son’s birthday and really loved it. The beignet’s were delicious and came with three dipping sauces. The menu is great and it was hard to choose. Chicken and waffles and egg scrambles were fantastic. The wait was long and crowded in the entry even with a reservation but once seated the table was very comfortable. Our server was just the worst we have had in a long time. She brought the coffee without the cream. We asked her multiple times and she never brought it. Ultimately, we flagged down another server. Same with the toast. She didn’t bring the butter and jam until 10 minutes after the food arrived. Other than the extremely poor server, we had a wonderful meal and can’t wait to go back.
Disappointed in constant wait times every time I come to visit, despite having a reservation. Today we showed up 5 minutes early and weren’t seated until 30 minutes after our reservation time.
Other than the ridiculous wait times, the food and service was amazing as always.
Make reservation!! Don’t go without one! Food is great ! Made from scratch ! Nothing over $15.00. Brunch menu
We waited nearly 40 minutes past our reservation to be seated. The place was overflowing with people and there were few places to wait that were still within earshot of the host announcements. Service was slow and inconsistent. We won’t be returning to Founding Farmers.
We had a reservation at 10am, we were sat 20mins later. No where to stand while waiting. Food was average, nothing special.
Music a bit loud and “Energetic “ for dining. Was not background at all. Service friendly. Food delivered timely. Was good. Nothing special. But enjoyed the meal.
The food took way too long to come and the flavour was very bland. The service was a little slow and it just wasn’t smooth at all. The whole experience just wasn’t good.
Delicious food and great service. Very reasonably priced.
Wait staff wasn’t particularly friendly. Seemed more interested in “turning the table” then creating a great dining experience. I’m pretty sure he never said hello and seemed interested in providing the minimum service possible.
Restaurant just wanted us out as quick as possible as there were a lot of people waiting. We only had the menu for all of 60 seconds before they wanted us to order. We ordered wine, starter and a main courses. They forgot our starter and brought us our main courses!!! We didn’t bother arguing just asked for starter to be taken off bill. Food was OK but I had “Meatloaf with Gravy” and it didn’t come with any gravy, in less than 30 mins we had from arriving to finishing our main course. Obviously the kitchen was slammed but there is no excuse for such a poor experience, definitely won’t be going again.
Founding Farmers was FANTASTIC!! Best Chicken Fried Steak I have every eaten, & I was born, raised, & currently like in West TX so I know CFS. If you can ask for Mike, great service!!
I guess it all depends on the night. We brought friends there for their first time. We were seated and greeted by 1 waitress. Ordered our drinks. 15 minutes later we were greeted by another waitress, no drinks yet and asked if we were ready to order drinks. 3 CANS of soda came out another 15 minutes after that. 1 glass of wine took 25 minutes and had to remind the waitress twice. Grilled cheese was cooked using mayonnaise so of course my daughter didn't eat that. Pasta was al dente.. shrimp were spicy and as I shared the dish, my friend wasn't thrilled either. The best part of the meal was dessert. Quite pricey for it not being all that great. Will not be coming back next time in DC.
I went there for dinner, service is great. I have a bad experience. I found a metal in my meal, while I was chewing my food I felt it in my mount. I let know the server and they were friendly.
Incredible food with a farm-to-table focus. Craft cocktails were delish! Service impeccable!
Surprisingly mediocre in comparison to previous breakfasts we’ve had there. Sticky table and dirty silverware when we were seated. Indifferent service. As a server placed a plate in front of my wife that was hanging off the table because there wasn’t enough room, she asked “is there anything else I can get for you”.
Hi Earl: Thank you for sharing your review with us. I am super sorry for the mediocre experience you had this time. :( Our Management Team has read your feedback and will follow up with our staff that worked during the morning hours of Friday, August 16th, as well as make sure our table tops & silverware are perfectly detailed. Excellent value for money! Very good and abundant dishes. I will definitely come back when I’m back in town. Although the restaurant is often almost full, the waiting time is really low.
Loved the menu and the food was great. Had reservations and had to wait for about 10 minutes, but on a busy night, that is understandable. Quite noisy with tables close together. Service was friendly and efficient. Have had better experiences in the daytime when less busy and less noisy.
I was a little disappointed that Founding Farmers didn't live up to the hype. I ordered Fish and Chips and it was served with a side of literal potato chips (i.e. not french fries as the dish was meant to be served). The server was nice about the mix-up and brought us an order of french fries later. To be honest, I was underwhelmed. It's not often you pay over 20$ for a dish and it is served with no garnish or sides to speak of (in my experience fish and chips should come with cole slaw, or at least a pickle, no?). The atmosphere was pleasant, but a bit loud for my tastes. All in all, I think we over paid for a perfectly average meal.
Our flavorful meals were brought by a very considerate server who had to tell to be heard over the din.
