About Founding Farmers - DC
Founding Farmers, the Greenest Restaurant in DC, is owned by the more than 40,000 family farmers of the NDFU, serving American inspired real food and drink with an emphasis and focus on cooking from scratch.
While our restaurant is supplied by hundreds of family farms everywhere, that doesn’t mean we know every farm, and that doesn’t mean we never have to buy product from the traditional (corporate) supply chain, but it does mean we’re working hard to direct our purchasing dollars where it aligns with our values.
We’re serving the best food we can, made from scratch in our kitchens every day. Our innovative, American dishes are made primarily with pure ingredients honoring the farmers and their hard-earned bounty.
The restaurant is upscale casual, which welcomes business casual dress, and dress that would be appropriate in a nice restaurant; this includes jeans and athletic wear, and warm-weather clothing, including shorts.

Founding Farmers - DC Ratings and Reviews
My friend and I took our moms to the restaurant to celebrate a career milestone for both of us. I was the only patron that had been to the restaurant before--several times, in fact. We all had an outstanding dinner. Our waiter was great and it was a brilliant way for us celebrate this opportunity. As always, FF is a perfect venue to catch up with old friends and make new ones.
The cutest spot with the yummiest menu! Me made an appointment and were seated promptly. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and very accommodating. I didn’t love something I ordered and she took it back and brought me another selection which was so delish! Will definitely come back again!
The food was good. Our order included the Sirloin Chili, the Chicken Fried Steak, the Chicken Bolognese Bucatini, Chocolate Cake, Vanilla Bean Milkshake, and Pecan Ice cream. My mom wished she had got the chicken and waffles and not the chicken bolognese, our waiter was great. He made sure our glasses were never empty. It was quite loud though, and my parents had a hard time hearing the conversation. Great ambience though. Overall, a good place for comfort food where you know that you'll get something that has a bit of a twist to it and is homemade.
My husband and I were looking for a place that had fresh food with a foodie flare. We found it here! We started by sharing an order of bacon wrapped dates stuffed with bleu cheese. They were full of flavor and properly done. We also shared the fish and chips. Two large pieces of freshly fried white fish lightly battered with a side of both house made chips and fries. We finished our experience with a piece of butternut cake. Fabulously wonderful layers of rich, moist cake paired with brickle-style ice cream. Perfect with a espresso! Perfect service finished off the experience. Well done overall. We will be back!
My table ordered a few plates to share and we were very pleased with the food. The crab dip was GREAT along with the prosciutto appteizer
My first compaint is that the bathrooms were BEYOND dirty. I was very dissapointed by this. Second, we made a 9pm reservation and were not seated unil 9:20. While we waited, we grabbed drinks at the bar and the bartender was very rude. He was not polite or welcoming whatsoever, and looked annoyed . Everyone I was with received an attittude from him up until the point that that he handed our bill to us, which is when he suddenly seemed very polite and eager to help.
I would come here again for the food on a random night, not for a special event or a get together. I would also consdering just ordering pickup if possible.
First time diner with our visit to DC. On a Friday evening, the place was really busy with a constant buzz of people having a good time. You definitely need reservations. The food was really good and well prepared, with appropriate pricing. Service was attentive, but the wait staff is jumping just to keep up with the rush of diners. Seating is a bit tight. Chances are you'll have other diners close by, but everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. It's worth a visit or two for certain.
Amazing food - fresh and flavorful - and a nice selection of choices for everyone from vegans to carnivores. Very thoughtful and responsive wait staff who even included extra dipping sauces (raspberry coulis, chocolate and caramel) without asking when packaging our leftover beignets.
Good service, mediocre food. Chicken fried steak was so tough and greasy it was hard to chew. Would have sent it back but we were in a time crunch. Tables are so tight you need to be ready to get to know your neighbors. We were practically sitting on top of the family next to us.
Another overrated overpriced dc restaurant. Can’t understand why that place is always busy. Ordered gnocchi with sausage sauce. It was soaping in melted fat/oil. Overall quality of ingredients was mediocre at best. Felt sick for the following 12 h after eating!
I ordered the fire roasted tomato soup and rotisserie chicken as I was trying to eat light. Food was amazing. Every dish that I saw come out of the kitchen looked awesome. I would try any of them. Great food, service and price. Food portion was large. Great place to eat and socialize. Highly recommend
Chose this restaurant because I loved that they are farmer-owned. Ambiance was great but my food was not good. Ordered roasted tomato soup and it arrived lukewarm and tasted like Campbell's condensed soup (loved it as a kid but don't want to pay $7 a bowl for it). Ordered Avacodo Bacon Burger medium well. It arrived with no condiments and it took me 5 minutes and two waiters to get some bbq sauce and ketchup. Cut into burger and it was RAW. Took 10 minutes to flag a waiter and they took it back to the kitchen. Received new burger that was burned on the outside and medium inside (still a bit raw). The bacon was like rawhide. Wanted to get out of there so ate it anyway. Someone, maybe a manager, came by to ask us how our meal was and I expressed my disappointment. To their credit they took it off the bill. On the plus-side, my side of Baked Sweet Potato with Pecan Fig Butter was amazing (but again only lukewarm)and my business colleague enjoyed her Kale Salad and Chicken Potpie which she said was extremely rich. Really wanted to love this restaurant, but my experience was disappointing.
In DC on vacation and celebrated a birthday at Founding Farmers! It did NOT disappoint! I made a reservation for 7 and was seated within 2 minutes even during the dinner rush. Service was exceptional! Food was delicious and served in a timely manner! I recommend to all and will return when I am back in the DC area!
