About Founding Farmers - DC
Founding Farmers, the Greenest Restaurant in DC, is owned by the more than 40,000 family farmers of the NDFU, serving American inspired real food and drink with an emphasis and focus on cooking from scratch.
While our restaurant is supplied by hundreds of family farms everywhere, that doesn’t mean we know every farm, and that doesn’t mean we never have to buy product from the traditional (corporate) supply chain, but it does mean we’re working hard to direct our purchasing dollars where it aligns with our values.
We’re serving the best food we can, made from scratch in our kitchens every day. Our innovative, American dishes are made primarily with pure ingredients honoring the farmers and their hard-earned bounty.
The restaurant is upscale casual, which welcomes business casual dress, and dress that would be appropriate in a nice restaurant; this includes jeans and athletic wear, and warm-weather clothing, including shorts.

Founding Farmers - DC Ratings and Reviews
Terrific service (with very good recommendations from our server - the only subpar element of one entree was immediately redone at the server's initiative). Cocktail (Winter Pie) was definitely over-iced, but very good. The food was exceptional, especially the goat cheese ravioli. A perfect place to go after visiting the Renwick.
I love this restaurant and i always get the same thing when i come and thats the pot roast...well my hubby and I came here before a show we was attending and it was his first time and he ordered the beef ribs...if you are a rib lover I want you to know he said it was delicious...however...he only got ONE(I capitalized for emphasis) ONE rib...he is use to ordering ribs and getting half slab...i had to remind him that this was fine cuisine dining but he didn't want to hear that...as stated he said it was delish but he asked me not to include this place in the rotation for our date nights... So if ribs is a deal breaker...this is not the place...but i have to stress that the food is great though
Absolutely amazing time with my wife... I went there with my wife for an wedding anniversary breakfast and just happened to call and let them know I was gonna be late for the reservation.. the Very kind woman on the phone saved my spot we were seated immediately and the food was GREAT AND SERVICE! I think the manager answered the phone or whoever it was shoutout to them too
Very disappointed in the food. I used to go here all of the time and I took a date after telling him how good it was. The seafood devilish eggs were tasteless and old. We each couldnt finish our entrees and I’m now hesitant to return and suggest it to others.
On a cold Wednesday night, the restaurant was very crowded and very loud; quite difficult to hear the waiter or carry on a conversation at a 4 top. Even if the food had been divine, which it wasn't, the noise would have ruined it. I guess you have to like that sort of thing.
The venue and service were lovely. The food, on the other hand, was definitely overhyped. Although the chicken pot pie isn't the most popular dish on the menu, I had hopes that it would be delicious to some extent. Alas, the puff pastry on top was a little too flaky, even slightly mushy around the edges of the pie pan. Typically when I make my chicken pot pie there's more of a golden brown crust, but I figured there are other ways to prepare the dish and I tried to eat most of it anyway.
I was sick for hours.
Hence, I'm sure there might be other dishes that live up to the Founding Farmers puffery, but you shouldn't feel it's one of those places you *have* to go to when you're in the area. It's nice, but you aren't missing out on too much if you went elsewhere.
Great from start to finish. Very busy resturant, and I see why. Flavor on every item was as server described! Surf and Turf option made was a hit! Apps were all amazing. Definitely a place to go with friends who are willing to share apps and maybe even a bite of what’s on their entree plates. Wine and dessert selections will have me and my crew back to try more of the options we didn’t get to this time around. Bravo!
Very frustrating. We were kept waiting for our reserved table for 15 minutes, despite being on time for our reservation. This was for a working lunch. So this cut into our time significantly. Moreover, we were only seated after I inquired about our table for the second time. When we got to our table, it looked like it may have been available for some time. Not acceptable!
Everything was very good. Nelson who was our server was very attentive and did good job bring out the surprise birthday cake for my daughter. Only complaint was where we were sitting was very cold but it was nice and cozy for occasion. It’s not going to stop me from going back.
Restaurant seemed nice so I'd give it another try but the waitress was not helpful because it was our first time there(she placed the menus and left). We called to find out what time breakfast was over(Sunday) they gave us the wrong time. So we waited for 30 minutes for a seat to eat lunch when we wanted breakfast and was not notified about it till we looked at the menu(after being seated). Ordered/ received our food and my friends order was wrong but we didn't send it back. The waitress never checked on us after getting our meal or ask if we wanted more to drink or anything we had to actually ask another waiter that was waiting a table near us. Our waitress was actually in the area we could see her and everything but she never came back to our table. Service could be better. But the guy that actually helped us was really nice great guy .
We went for brunch and were quickly sat, which was nice. The tables were very close together so we basically listened in to the table next to us the entire time.
The food was very good. The eggs were not like eggs you make at home. The cinnamon maple syrup is something everyone should try at least once (and then fall in love with). The hashbrowns were very nicely done and the farmer's salad was a recommended hit.
Sadly my brunch companion was still hungry after his meal (Breafast Chicken and Waffle - it's light on the chicken) so if you're starving and have a big appetite, I'd look elsewhere.
My family and I went for a Sunday Brunch. However, we noticed that the Impossible Burger. We've heard so many great things about this 100% plant base burger, that we steered away from our French Toast and just ordered the burger and it was absolutely delicious!
My husband and I truly enjoyed our dining experience tonight ... from start to finish! We are in town for the Ryan Davis show ... and this restaurant was perfect ... close to our hotel, The Watergate, and the location of the venue! My hubby and I enjoyed the cornbread, deviled eggs, chicken noodle soup, rotisserie chicken, chicken and waffles, and the chocolate mousse! Everything was delicious! We’re scared to check out the location by us, which is in King of Prussia — the bar has been set! And, it’s pretty high!
