Founding Farmers, the Greenest Restaurant in DC, is owned by the more than 40,000 family farmers of the NDFU, serving American inspired real food and drink with an emphasis and focus on cooking from scratch.

While our restaurant is supplied by hundreds of family farms everywhere, that doesn’t mean we know every farm, and that doesn’t mean we never have to buy product from the traditional (corporate) supply chain, but it does mean we’re working hard to direct our purchasing dollars where it aligns with our values.
We’re serving the best food we can, made from scratch in our kitchens every day. Our innovative, American dishes are made primarily with pure ingredients honoring the farmers and their hard-earned bounty.

The restaurant is upscale casual, which welcomes business casual dress, and dress that would be appropriate in a nice restaurant; this includes jeans and athletic wear, and warm-weather clothing, including shorts.

The bar at Founding Farmers is a truly unique and innovative experience, with true mixologists specially trained in 'bar-chefing'. The bar menu harkens back to the pre-Prohibition era with handcrafted cocktails that use juices and mixers prepared by hand.

Had a 10:00am reservation for breakfast and time was not honored. The entry was jam packed and uncomfortable to wait in. When seated had to sit in a booth right near entrance so people were standing all around. Service was mediocre. Food was delicious.

Small menu but all breakfast options are good. Basic with a twist. Love the banana marshmallow toast sharing item!

On the recommendation of our hotel clerk, we visited here. He said the food was great but breakfast was outstanding. He wasn’t wrong! He also told us to make sure we made a reservation. Again, he was right. We made reservations for Saturday on Thursday and the times available to us were 9:30 or 1:45! Even with a reservation, we didn’t sit until 9:50 or so. We received our food quickly and it was possibly the best meal we had in dc. The beignets and waffles are a must do! They melted in your mouth! My husband was apprehensive about the hype- how can this be better than a typical breakfast. He was quick to change his mind! Definitely lived up to the hype! Do yourself a favor and visit... just make sure you have a reservation!

I love this restaurant. The food is outstanding, especially the corn bread. I would give this restaurant five stars except for one reason ( and this isn't the first time). We had a 9:30 reservation but had to wait ten minutes past that time. One time last year, we had reservations and waited a half hour past that time. Perhaps they are improving.

Reserved a table for the Friday after Valentine's Day. Arrived several minutes early and waited about fifteen minutes, but they were very crowded and I'm sure without a reservation it would've been an hour wait. The food was delicious, the fried green tomatoes were fantastic, green beans great, sweet potato also great. Server didn't ask how I wanted my steak cooked and it was too well done for my taste. My dining partner was vegan, and though they have great vegetarian options, there is maybe ONE vegan entree. She did enjoy the impossible burger though. Our server may have been new, and was certainly busy, but the service was sub-par. She explained my dish in a confusing manner that ended with confusion between the food runner, the server and I. She checked on us infrequently, and left us without water for over twenty minutes after noticing three times we were out. Overall though, very good food.

The place was packed, but we were quickly sat. The service was superb. We're both picky eaters and both had multiple options on the Founding Farmers menu. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I had a butternut squash ravioli with mascarpone and my girlfriend had the chicken pot pie (which was enormous). Highly recommend!

I LOVE FOUNDING FARMERS! The food was fresh and so good! The goat cheese burger was fantastic, the sweet potato was delicious...
My friend had the rotisserie chicken and sweet potato with a salad and she said it was the best meal she's had on the trip. I will be back!

This restaurant is consistently good. Their strengths are definitely in the "comfort food" area - stews, appetizers, etc. Service is good and very friendly, if a bit inconsistent timing wise.

A mess with slow seating, missed delivery of salad and soup then only after pointed out after entrees arrived, burger requested medium came well, no spoon for soup had to bring a hot soup again. All acknowledged by manager Nelson and barely by indifferent waiter. Free desserts and burger not nearly enough in this first time visit to popular place to make up for the ruined dining experience.

Waitress was not nice at all. It almost seemed like we were a nuisance to her.

WOW! We came to DC for a show, and made reservations here based on Yelp reviews. So glad we did. Carmen, our server, was informative, enthusiastic and had that just right touch about checking on us. Everything from the wine to the cornbread to the meals were excellent! Highly recommend. Also highly recommend making reservations a week in advance as this is one popular place.

We booked for breakfast but we were too late for the breakfast menu. We ordered quite a few different items and the seafood risotto, glazed bacon Lillian and the skillet cornbread were all extremely delectable! We would definitely return and order them all again! It was pretty crowded on our way out so going early (before noon) worked great for us. Service was good as well.

I absolutely LOVE DC Founding Farmers. I have become a regular at this restaurant for the tasty food, ambiance and convenient location. I especially love the Chicken & Waffles, Yankee Pot Roast, skillet cornbread, and the tasty, refreshing ginger ale. I took my friend, Ava, to DC Founding Farmers and she was instantly hooked on the Chicken & Waffles and the ginger ale! The service from Terrell was outstanding! I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone!
