Founding Farmers, the Greenest Restaurant in DC, is owned by the more than 40,000 family farmers of the NDFU, serving American inspired real food and drink with an emphasis and focus on cooking from scratch.

While our restaurant is supplied by hundreds of family farms everywhere, that doesn’t mean we know every farm, and that doesn’t mean we never have to buy product from the traditional (corporate) supply chain, but it does mean we’re working hard to direct our purchasing dollars where it aligns with our values.
We’re serving the best food we can, made from scratch in our kitchens every day. Our innovative, American dishes are made primarily with pure ingredients honoring the farmers and their hard-earned bounty.

The restaurant is upscale casual, which welcomes business casual dress, and dress that would be appropriate in a nice restaurant; this includes jeans and athletic wear, and warm-weather clothing, including shorts.

Founding Farmers includes is a second floor mezzanine level that is ideal for special events/parties or corporate events and can accommodate 100 comfortably seated for dinner or 120 for a standing reception. There are no fully private rooms.

There are two Metro stops within 3 blocks of the restaurant, Orange/Blue lines at Farragut West or Foggy Bottom/GWU. The red DC Circulator bus Georgetown/Union Station line stops on Pennsylvania Ave. at 21st street, as well as on K Street and on 19th, all just one block away.

The bar at Founding Farmers is a truly unique and innovative experience, with true mixologists specially trained in 'bar-chefing'. The bar menu harkens back to the pre-Prohibition era with handcrafted cocktails that use juices and mixers prepared by hand.

For large parties and special events, please note that our D.C. location can accommodate up to 12 guests in one reservation. Sorry, there are no private rooms available.

Founding Farmers is available for full buyouts for corporate or private events for up to 300 people, or the second floor mezzanine is available for full buyout.

Had the meatless meatloaf tastes different from last time but still good. Took home the Incredible Burger for my hubby and it was a hit. Thank you for carrying that plant based option!

We were late, and we were cancelled. They accommodated us with some effort and some resentment. I'm guessing they often have late guests, and their apparent lack of understanding was probably due to this. We do not have a record of being late, so we were not anticipating the lack of grace. Our waiter was good. We had a good time.

I've been to Founding Farmers a few times and enjoyed it each time. The cocktail selection is excellent and the food is outstanding. I highly recommend the corn bread skillet and the spiced nuts apps. The double mashed potatoes are so good I could go just for those.

Food was fantastic! Service was incredibly quick! It was a,warm February evening in DC and I was wearing a short sleeve shirt. I froze in the restaurant. Make sure you bring a,sweater! I food made me cry it was so good.

Our meal at Founding Farmers was one of the most delicious meals we have had in a long time. The skillet cornbread, deviled eggs, steak chili, and chicken pot pie were highlights. Service was fantastic - both quick and amiable. Highly recommend!

Only disappointment was arriving at 7:45 for an 8:00 reservation and waiting until 8:20 to be seated.
Our waiter was excellent. Cheerful, energetic and he had several recommendations for cocktails and entrees.
Entrees were a bit slow with long interval between salad and entree.
Overall one of our favorites for breakfast and dinner in Washington, DC.

An attractive space and the wait staff professional and attentive. We had a party of 7 so when we were all, correctly, served at once, several orders had cooled off. I'd prefer hot plates delivered piecemeal over room temperature food. That aside, the food was good and nicely plated. I plan on returning.

We had to wait too long with reservations. We told them when 8 out 10 were available in our party but they seem to have been dragging tbeir feet or chit chatting with one another.

We have been to Founding Farmers before so we knew that it was a good place to eat however I was a bit disappointed in the Turkey/ Gruyere sandwich....lots of turkey but where's the cheese? Also our waiter was fair---not as attentive as he should have been. Otherwise still a good place. We will return there next week with our grandkids or maybe go to the Tyson's Corner location.
