About Founding Farmers - DC
Founding Farmers, the Greenest Restaurant in DC, is owned by the more than 40,000 family farmers of the NDFU, serving American inspired real food and drink with an emphasis and focus on cooking from scratch.
While our restaurant is supplied by hundreds of family farms everywhere, that doesn’t mean we know every farm, and that doesn’t mean we never have to buy product from the traditional (corporate) supply chain, but it does mean we’re working hard to direct our purchasing dollars where it aligns with our values.
We’re serving the best food we can, made from scratch in our kitchens every day. Our innovative, American dishes are made primarily with pure ingredients honoring the farmers and their hard-earned bounty.
The restaurant is upscale casual, which welcomes business casual dress, and dress that would be appropriate in a nice restaurant; this includes jeans and athletic wear, and warm-weather clothing, including shorts.

Founding Farmers - DC Ratings and Reviews
In DC on vacation and celebrated a birthday at Founding Farmers! It did NOT disappoint! I made a reservation for 7 and was seated within 2 minutes even during the dinner rush. Service was exceptional! Food was delicious and served in a timely manner! I recommend to all and will return when I am back in the DC area!
Terrific service (with very good recommendations from our server - the only subpar element of one entree was immediately redone at the server's initiative). Cocktail (Winter Pie) was definitely over-iced, but very good. The food was exceptional, especially the goat cheese ravioli. A perfect place to go after visiting the Renwick.
Staff seemed unfriendly and the front door hostess was rude. We had a reservation for 3. I was out parking the car while my wife and kid went inside. My wife has a knee injury in which she reviled to the hostess but the hostess kept insisting my wife wait for me before finally allowing my wife to be seated. Secondly, my chicken and waffles were cold. They could not heat the syrup which also was a let down. I felt like for all of my troubles it sure wasn’t worth the amount I paid. It’s a shame because I heard so many positive things about this restaurant.
My boyfriend and I had brunch here on MLK This past Monday, for our anniversary. They were nice enough to seat us after reservation time. We ordered drinks one mimosa and one Bellini, the drinks came out very warm. I for one can't drink warm champagne, we informed the server and he brought new drinks out in cooler glasses about 10 min after. They still needed to be colder, but we drank them. We both ordered the crab cake Benedict, thinking being near D.C. It would be great crab. Not the case at all, it was a very small amount of crab (maybe two bites) and the English muffin was very hard. We would not order crab Benny's again, if we go back I would order the crab cakes off of the lunch menu, they looked like Maryland style crab cakes, what I expected on the benidicts being that I saw them being brought to the table next to us.
Founding Farmers D.C is one of my favorite places in Washington, D.C. I always try to get my friends and family members to go here when they visit. I love going for brunch (Beer Battered French Toast is amazing!). The service has always been great. The staff handling the reservations are awesome and very friendly.
My family decided to go to DC for the long weekend and wanted to go for brunch Monday morning. Knowing Founding Farmers was very popular we decided to book a reservation through open table and are so happy we did! 5 min wait and the meal could not have been more delicious! Highly recommend.
Very expensive for what you get. Food was fine but more on the blande side. Very expensive ($7 for 3 stripes on small bacon). Drinks were tiny ($13 for a tiny mimosa) The service was very slow and they charged to refill coffee.
Busboys and Poets has way better food and is reasonably priced
We had a great meal at Founding Farmers, but the service unfortunately left a bit to be desired. The restaurant was busy, but we had to wait to be served water after sitting down, were brought a wrong drink, didn't receive requested condiments with our meal, and had to wait 15 minutes after finishing our food to receive our check. Great food, but don't expect quick or responsive service.
Not sure what the hype is all about. The scene is jumping even at 9:30am but I found the food very average. The French press coffee came out tasting like mud, the egg dish I ordered came out with egg whites which I didn't ask for -and apparently this is how it's made-up only its not specified on the menu. The stuffed French toast looks like it would be over the top but really it was over fried and not as good as it could be.
The service was good despite the crowd and it's a beautiful restaurant but I would not return.
A nice breakfast which fueled my partner and myself for a full day of exploring DC's museums and city sites. Staff were very pleasant and offered great service. We reserved a table (highly recommended, the place is popular) and were seated with a couple of minutes. The menu offered good variety for breakfast and the FF breakfasts we ordered were very filling. My only gripe would be that I would have preferred 2 small sides compared to the 1 large one from the menu, but the quality was good. If your party is 2 or fewer, small tables can feel crowded but large tables (3 or more) seemed more spacious. I'd eat here again and recommend others try it out.
I love this restaurant and i always get the same thing when i come and thats the pot roast...well my hubby and I came here before a show we was attending and it was his first time and he ordered the beef ribs...if you are a rib lover I want you to know he said it was delicious...however...he only got ONE(I capitalized for emphasis) ONE rib...he is use to ordering ribs and getting half slab...i had to remind him that this was fine cuisine dining but he didn't want to hear that...as stated he said it was delish but he asked me not to include this place in the rotation for our date nights... So if ribs is a deal breaker...this is not the place...but i have to stress that the food is great though
Overall food was good. Went back the next day to get the garlic black pepper wings and they weren’t as good. The service was also awful. Since we ordered takeout we were that we could order from the bar. Not one person helped us until we said
Something to what looked like a manager. That was extremely poor and then when we got the wings they didn’t have the same amount of sauce and were rather dry. Very dissappointed with the second visit. The dinner however was good the first night we went.
Absolutely amazing time with my wife... I went there with my wife for an wedding anniversary breakfast and just happened to call and let them know I was gonna be late for the reservation.. the Very kind woman on the phone saved my spot we were seated immediately and the food was GREAT AND SERVICE! I think the manager answered the phone or whoever it was shoutout to them too
