My favorite brunch in all of DC! I keep coming back. Definitely check this place out if you want a great breakfast/brunch!
This is our 3rd time to Founding Fathers - Foggy-bottom location. We have always had a great experience. I found our server to be not as helpful as our previous servers. The server informed me that they had been working there for 3 years when he dismissed a question about a picture of a menu item posted on the website that apparently has never existed. They were also dismissive when we asked for the beer menu or what was on tap. They reported that they don’t know what’s on tap because there’s a menu, which was never originally given to us. They also didn’t know the name of the “white beer” that went with the fish, chips, and beer entree. Maybe we were spoiled by the service in the past, but this server was mediocre. I am hoping they just had a bad night. Everything else was superb. I still tipped the obligatory 20%, but think the service was more like 15% worth.
If you are a patient person who tolerates crowds and noise, this is the place for you. The food is very good, and the service is decent. But, this restaurant is VERY busy almost always. We had a 6:15 reservation on a Sunday night and were seated at 6:45 after standing in a crowded entryway with dozens of other people. The crowds are a reflection of the good food...and the fact that this is one of the few places in DC with the capacity to host large parties. Definitely try the fried green tomatoes.
Service was a little slow and the food wasn't as good as usual, but still better than most DC restaurants!
It was great
this is my 4th time...love it! we are from Michigan and only get to DC about once a year...but every time we make to eat...especially with friends and family!
We were brunching at Founding Farmers and had a wonderful time. The upstairs section was nice and calm, and the food was amazing. Perfect poached eggs, very tasty French toast, and I highly recommend any of their fresh presses and scratch sodas. Obviously, had a mimosa also. Best place to go for brunch.
What we got -
Vanilla Cream Filled French toast - incredible!! These log filled French toast sticks are amazing.
Pancakes - Nothing special, skimpy on the chocolate chips.
Music was very loud and speaker was right over our table. Service was slow to even get drinks
Founding Farmers is a great place. I always make sure I have a reservation a week in advance otherwise it is a nightmare. I visited here 4 times and most times are great with my bill for me and my lady around 40-60$. This time my server was anything but good. Didn't come to my table once after the order. I had to find him and get up to order a drink and for that reason I decided not to tip. For the first time ever. It's still a good place Crowded and pricey but still great to go to once in a while
First time visit on our honeymoon and when we make a trip back to DC we will definitely be returning to this restaurant. Amazing food and service.
Super cool atmosphere inside, and one of the best menus I’ve seen in DC. Huge variety to choose from, and everything we ordered was incredible (cornbread, cocktails, shrimp bucatini, etc.). Service was also great, very knowledgeable, friendly, and personable staff. Definitely make a reservation.
Great place will definitely keep this in mind for future dates
Our experience this time was just ok. Food was just mediocre, definitely not anything exceptional as expected.
Founding Farmers always fabulous for family memories. Love all locations. Unique food creations and speedy service.
From the beginning through the end AMAZING!!!
We went there for a birthday celebration. The food was great. WE sat upstairs, so it was a bit less noisy then downstairs. The server was super. We would definitely go again.
Food was a little disappointing but service was excellent and atmosphere was great.
The quality of the food is so much better because of the farm to table aspect of the restaurant. Love this place. I'd eat there a lot more if it were less costly.
Food was just delicious.
The table service was awesome! The food selection and quality was outstanding! I am hoping they are working on modernizing their systems for waiting for a table. We will definitely be back when we return to DC!
Came here for a nice dinner out with my little sister while we visit DC for the weekend. Everything was almost perfect, except that our appetizer came after our meals did. It didn’t matter too much because it was cornbread and went well with our food, but it would have been nice to get it first.
Our waitress was great! Really good service. And of course the food tasted delicious.
Waited several minutes after being seated to be acknowledged. Our meal came out less than 2 minutes after the appetizers. Food was excellent but the other issues cancelled it out.
Had a great day in DC followed by a great dinner in Founding Farmers! A reservation is highly recommended as this restaurant is a popular spot. While waiting you can get a drink at the bar (seating is tough) and enjoy one of the flat breads. The Brie, apple and onion jam was delicious! Dinner was mouth watering, not the prime rib and the shrimp and grits leave you wanting more. Portion size was plentiful. Won’t be disappointed!
Love this restaurant! Had the Salmon; it was delicious! This place is always a favorite. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu.
I came to Founding Farmers with my family to celebrate residency match Day 2018. While the food was great, the service was poor. Multiple errors with the food which resulted in it being sent back, the waitress took drink orders from half the table only, and she forgot to take a food orders from some of the guests.
Excellent food. Exceptionally busy (like always) but service suffered for it this time. Seemed like there weren't enough servers for the crowd. Food came promptly, but no follow up service and we had to wait forever to get a drink refill - it didn't arrive until they were cleaning off dining plates!
Very good food though, can't go wrong with anything on the menu.
We visited this spot for breakfast while playing tourist in the district. The food was AMAZING, the staff were friendly and fast, and the place was hopping! It was crowded and loud, but just the right energy to get us off to a great start and go walk the mall. We were so full from breakfast that we didn't need to eat again until dinner!
The restaurant is very busy so reservations are recommended. Also, if you have a reservation, make sure you show up with your entire party as they will not seat you until all are there. Once seated, you should receive very good service and great tasting food as we did.
Remember to make a reservation! Food was delicious and the staff was friendly.
Very good food, very rushed meal. Yes we will return but now we understand this is NOT a dining experience, quiet or relaxing meal. This is EATING.
Do NOT go without reservations! Food amazing! Service good but because they are so busy all the time expect a little wait time. Not a place to go if you are in a rush. If you want a relaxed date night or dinner with friends this is a great place to go!
Love the food but the noise level is too much for me.
Notified manager that we were still waiting for our table 25 mi utes after our reservation time. Not much of an appology to hear, " yeah, I don't like seating guests with reservations late...but it hapoens." Finally got seated for our 6:30 pm reservation at 7:05 pm. Was sitting next to a couple who were fighting during 90% of our meal- making it the most uncomfortable meal we've ever had. Next, got our food before appetizer. Rarely was checked in on by server. The food was great but the rest of the restaurant seemed like constant chaos. This places gets great reviews and I wished we'd had the same experience others raved about. Sad that managerial staff didn't step up to do more to make things right. Coming from someone who has worked in food service - more should have been done.
Very, very busy, but the food is worth it! Excellent cornbread.
My husband and I visited Washington DC about 2 years and kept returning to the restaurant during our stay. I brought my daughter to Washington for a mother - daughter get away. The food was as delicious as last time. This time we knew to make reservations as the placed was packed even by 5:15 PM on a weeknight, with good reason.
Still had to wait more than 15 minutes even though I made reservation. That's very unusual and not common.
My family was running late that morning (tired from the previous night)... So there was only 2 of us on time for our original reservation. The host and hostess were great in accommodating us to sit even though we were an hour past our reservation. The waiter we had was great!
