Great experience. The host did not arrive me for my open table reservation. Thus it looks like I did not have lunch at Founding Farmers today.
My favorite brunch in all of DC! I keep coming back. Definitely check this place out if you want a great breakfast/brunch!
Loved this restaurant. Amazing food, great ambience. Reservations recommended - pretty popular and busy even on a Monday night.
Good food. Good service. Incredibly loud.
I always enjoy the food and atmosphere, but they bungled our reservation.
We were there and checked in on time, but we had to wait more than 30 minutes to get our reserved table. What's worse, they kept telling us it would be just 3 or 4 minutes. I finally gave up and went to get seating at another restaurant, but they called our names as were leaving. They gave us some appetizers for our trouble, which was nice. But we had to ask twice to get our water and drinks. I do like the food, but I won't be back anytime soon.
Very good food. Large portions. Waiter was nice and helpful with suggestions. Great ambiance.
Crowded, noisy, long wait even with reservations on a Monday night. But, don't let that stop you. Very active bar scene downstairs, dining upstairs. All the food is made from scratch in their kitchen. While seating was slooow, the waitstaff was attentive and the kitchen was fast. Beware - some of the portions are huge, especially desserts. The chocolate mousse for 2 will very easily feed 4. The food is surprisingly good and there is a broad selection. We'll be back.
Delicious Food!! But a little loud. The warm cookies were AMAZING!
We loved this place SO much we had breakfast twice at this restaurant. The food is fresh and delicious. The beinets are a MUST!!! So delicious!! The price is very good for the food you receive. Our friends got the bananas fosters French toast and it was out of this world delicious!!! I had the traditional eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast. Very delicious!! Highly recommend and not too bad for the budget.
This is our 3rd time to Founding Fathers - Foggy-bottom location. We have always had a great experience. I found our server to be not as helpful as our previous servers. The server informed me that they had been working there for 3 years when he dismissed a question about a picture of a menu item posted on the website that apparently has never existed. They were also dismissive when we asked for the beer menu or what was on tap. They reported that they don’t know what’s on tap because there’s a menu, which was never originally given to us. They also didn’t know the name of the “white beer” that went with the fish, chips, and beer entree. Maybe we were spoiled by the service in the past, but this server was mediocre. I am hoping they just had a bad night. Everything else was superb. I still tipped the obligatory 20%, but think the service was more like 15% worth.
If you are a patient person who tolerates crowds and noise, this is the place for you. The food is very good, and the service is decent. But, this restaurant is VERY busy almost always. We had a 6:15 reservation on a Sunday night and were seated at 6:45 after standing in a crowded entryway with dozens of other people. The crowds are a reflection of the good food...and the fact that this is one of the few places in DC with the capacity to host large parties. Definitely try the fried green tomatoes.
Service was a little slow and the food wasn't as good as usual, but still better than most DC restaurants!
It was great
this is my 4th time...love it! we are from Michigan and only get to DC about once a year...but every time we make to eat...especially with friends and family!
We were brunching at Founding Farmers and had a wonderful time. The upstairs section was nice and calm, and the food was amazing. Perfect poached eggs, very tasty French toast, and I highly recommend any of their fresh presses and scratch sodas. Obviously, had a mimosa also. Best place to go for brunch.
What we got -
Vanilla Cream Filled French toast - incredible!! These log filled French toast sticks are amazing.
Pancakes - Nothing special, skimpy on the chocolate chips.
Music was very loud and speaker was right over our table. Service was slow to even get drinks
Founding Farmers is a great place. I always make sure I have a reservation a week in advance otherwise it is a nightmare. I visited here 4 times and most times are great with my bill for me and my lady around 40-60$. This time my server was anything but good. Didn't come to my table once after the order. I had to find him and get up to order a drink and for that reason I decided not to tip. For the first time ever. It's still a good place Crowded and pricey but still great to go to once in a while
We were seated on time however the table was under the air conditioning vent. After requeting to be moved several times they finally moved us. Four more people also requested to be moved after us. Why do you keep seating people at an uncomfortable seat? The waiter was unknowable in regards to the menu. They charge $4.25 for lemonade and you can't get any refills. The waiter didn't communicate to the server that we changed seats and our food was still sent to a whole it other table than the first. We had to wave home over to us to be served our food. This visit was a big disappointment, since it was for my mother's birthday and we weren't pleased.
First time visit on our honeymoon and when we make a trip back to DC we will definitely be returning to this restaurant. Amazing food and service.
Super cool atmosphere inside, and one of the best menus I’ve seen in DC. Huge variety to choose from, and everything we ordered was incredible (cornbread, cocktails, shrimp bucatini, etc.). Service was also great, very knowledgeable, friendly, and personable staff. Definitely make a reservation.
Our experience this time was just ok. Food was just mediocre, definitely not anything exceptional as expected.
Great place will definitely keep this in mind for future dates
Founding Farmers always fabulous for family memories. Love all locations. Unique food creations and speedy service.
From the beginning through the end AMAZING!!!
We went there for a birthday celebration. The food was great. WE sat upstairs, so it was a bit less noisy then downstairs. The server was super. We would definitely go again.
Food was a little disappointing but service was excellent and atmosphere was great.
The quality of the food is so much better because of the farm to table aspect of the restaurant. Love this place. I'd eat there a lot more if it were less costly.
Food was just delicious.
The table service was awesome! The food selection and quality was outstanding! I am hoping they are working on modernizing their systems for waiting for a table. We will definitely be back when we return to DC!
Came here for a nice dinner out with my little sister while we visit DC for the weekend. Everything was almost perfect, except that our appetizer came after our meals did. It didn’t matter too much because it was cornbread and went well with our food, but it would have been nice to get it first.
Our waitress was great! Really good service. And of course the food tasted delicious.
Waited several minutes after being seated to be acknowledged. Our meal came out less than 2 minutes after the appetizers. Food was excellent but the other issues cancelled it out.
Had a great day in DC followed by a great dinner in Founding Farmers! A reservation is highly recommended as this restaurant is a popular spot. While waiting you can get a drink at the bar (seating is tough) and enjoy one of the flat breads. The Brie, apple and onion jam was delicious! Dinner was mouth watering, not the prime rib and the shrimp and grits leave you wanting more. Portion size was plentiful. Won’t be disappointed!
Love this restaurant! Had the Salmon; it was delicious! This place is always a favorite. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu.
I came to Founding Farmers with my family to celebrate residency match Day 2018. While the food was great, the service was poor. Multiple errors with the food which resulted in it being sent back, the waitress took drink orders from half the table only, and she forgot to take a food orders from some of the guests.
Excellent food. Exceptionally busy (like always) but service suffered for it this time. Seemed like there weren't enough servers for the crowd. Food came promptly, but no follow up service and we had to wait forever to get a drink refill - it didn't arrive until they were cleaning off dining plates!
Very good food though, can't go wrong with anything on the menu.
We visited this spot for breakfast while playing tourist in the district. The food was AMAZING, the staff were friendly and fast, and the place was hopping! It was crowded and loud, but just the right energy to get us off to a great start and go walk the mall. We were so full from breakfast that we didn't need to eat again until dinner!
