About Founding Farmers - DC

Founding Farmers, the Greenest Restaurant in DC, is owned by the more than 40,000 family farmers of the NDFU, serving American inspired real food and drink with an emphasis and focus on cooking from scratch.

While our restaurant is supplied by hundreds of family farms everywhere, that doesn’t mean we know every farm, and that doesn’t mean we never have to buy product from the traditional (corporate) supply chain, but it does mean we’re working hard to direct our purchasing dollars where it aligns with our values.
We’re serving the best food we can, made from scratch in our kitchens every day. Our innovative, American dishes are made primarily with pure ingredients honoring the farmers and their hard-earned bounty.

The restaurant is upscale casual, which welcomes business casual dress, and dress that would be appropriate in a nice restaurant; this includes jeans and athletic wear, and warm-weather clothing, including shorts.

This was one of the best meals I've ever had! I had the roasted chicken, it was moist and flavorful. We had the skillet cornbread for an appetizer which was also wonderful. I had a dark chocolate shake that was like drinking a chocolate bar. I wish we lived closer so it could be in our normal rotation of restaurants!

The food was outstanding! And our server was friendly and helpful. We have the meatloaf, chicken pot pie, prime rib and chicken & waffles. Everyone was extremely happy with their choice. Apparently you can’t go wrong!

Mediocre, everything was ok. Food was not hot. Wait was long, never got called, sat at the bar for two hours. Bar tender was good, drinks are expensive, but good. Food was mediocre.

This restaurant requires patience. It's a very busy place and the noise level is high. It may take an hour to get your food from the time that you are seated. However, the food is worth the wait. The menu is filled with comfort foods and it's fresh. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

There are not enough good words i can use to describe the love i have for this place. I used to live right across the street from it and go every week, and over the past year have flown from California and Florida just to brunch there. It's truly one of a kind! I highly recommend the beignets, they're to kill for! I love everything on their menu, but brunch is my favorite and their side of hash browns is a must have.

Good, fresh food as always. Packed, as always, but seemingly unprepared for it. Though we had a reservation, and we arrived early, we were seated late. Our server was hard to find, and not prompt. She also forgot our drink order. Wouldn't recommend the sweet tea, as it tasted terrible, and then even though only a sip was drank, it was not removed from the bill. Food was so good though, that I would overlook the poor service, and go back.

Definitely some hits and misses. The cornbread with the salted honey butter is worth going for alone. My prime rib was not the temp I asked for and it was tough to cut through. The 7-cheese mac-n-cheese was just okay and the Brussels sprouts were amazing. My husband got the shrimp and grits and they were meh. Nothing special but not inedible. The Apple pie was delicious but skip the triple chocolate mousse cake. The place is beautiful and the menu has something for everyone but I’d pick your choices wisely - as we were pretty much 50/50.

Second time eating here and again it was wonderful. Our server was friendly, helpful and attentive. We had a variety of dishes (large party) and everything was fabulous! It is a little loud, but I like the energy of the space. Also, a great bar with some fun cocktails.

A friend of mine was visiting from out of town, and I wanted to take her to this tasty spot.

The food was good, as usual, the vibe is really nice - extremely diverse. It was a nice experience. We will come back!

We were in DC for three days as tourists. Had dinner one night, dessert after a play at the Kennedy Center, and breakfast on a Saturday morning. Everything was outstanding.......food, service, ambiance, and energy of this fine establishment. People having fun doing a great job for their customers. Management must be outstanding!!

Waiter was very good and knowledageable. The food was WAY over salted for all 4 entrees, my partner actually sent his back. I had the rotisserie chicken and the skin, as mentioned, was over salted and the chicken itself was dry. I’ve been before with much better luck so I’d try again just to see if they maybe had a bad night.

Great experience, delicious food, fun vibe! Had reservations -was in DC overnight to see a show. The wine was yummy! Multi chip and dips app was delish! I had the butternut squash ravioli, daughter had a burger - both were sooooo good! Had the chocolate mousse dessert for 2, could actually serve 4+! The waiter and staff were great! Excited to get the new one closer to us in King of Prussia.

We've been trying to get into this place for quite some time and finally just made a reservation. We ordered a bacon, bleu cheese burger with a side of brussels sprouts, a salad, fried green tomatoes and a specialty drink. Overall the food was good- my burger was tasty and quite large. My friend seemed happy with her salad and the FGTs were great. I'd come back to this place. It's not cheap- $40 for the two of us for a work-day lunch. Also, the place is noisy. If you need quiet, for a meeting or romance, this is not the place to go. But overall, a nice place with good food and ambience and great service.

On this night my friends and I met here for a get together. We arrived fifteen minutes late , but we were still seated in a timely fashion. The night was enjoyable, however our waitress didn't check on us, we had wait long periods of time before she checked on us as she walked pass our table and waited on the tables beside us ☹️.

"I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The potato-leek soup was amazing and the Bibb lettuce salad was refreshing. The table was split on the monkfish – one person thought it was great, but another felt that the tastes didn't quite mesh. Everyone loved the flat iron steak. Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable."
