Founding Farmers - DC
While our restaurant is supplied by hundreds of family farms everywhere, that doesn’t mean we know every farm, and that doesn’t mean we never have to buy product from the traditional (corporate) supply chain, but it does mean we’re working hard to direct our purchasing dollars where it aligns with our values.
We’re serving the best food we can, made from scratch in our kitchens every day. Our innovative, American dishes are made primarily with pure ingredients honoring the farmers and their hard-earned bounty.
The restaurant is upscale casual, which welcomes business casual dress, and dress that would be appropriate in a nice restaurant; this includes jeans and athletic wear, and warm-weather clothing, including shorts.
The service was not good and the food was not hot when it came out
Long wait. Decent food.
My group really enjoyed the food. Service was very slow all around. Or drinks to once 30 minutes to arrive. Probably closer to give minutes. Summer was good and we ordered cookies. Again a 30-45 minute wait. Won't be returning or recommending. All and all disappointing.
I don’t get what all the hype is about. The food was ok. Nothing outstanding. Very crowded. Sorry I don’t get it, mediocre food. Considering the popularity of the place, I do think the prices were reasonable. Good and friendly service.
Great food offerings. Food was served in a reasonable amount of time. Service was average. Prices on drinks were unreasonable. Setting was overpacked and very difficult to hear
Service was friendly but requests needed to be made several times. Food was very good.
Ok. A little slow service. Food was ok, but not great. Expensive for what you get.
In town for a family gathering for an Arlington Cemetery funeral. Arrived at 1:00pm for a 2:00pm reservation with 12 persons. The staff figured out a way to get us seated together well before 2:00pm, a very nice gesture.
The host staff could do a little better with communicating, but the food and wait service never disappoints at Founding. One of my favorites for personal or business dining.
Extremely over rated. This place is average at best. Service was sub par, drinks are way over priced and food was only ok. Eggs were over cooked but couldn’t send back because server was mia. Too many other places in the area to choose from.
Had a reservation for 12 family members in DC to attend a military funeral at Arlington Cemetery. Table was ready on time and we enjoyed the menu & services.
We did not like this restaurant at all! The food was horrible and it was so loud. Everyone said it was a must but we beg to differ. I would never go back to eat here.
The food was very good and the room relaxed... the tables are on top of each other creating a feeling of communal eating that was at times uncomfortable.
Very good indeed.
Came for lunch while on a work trip. Food quality was absolutely outstanding but service was poor. Took over 20 minutes to have drink order delivered and what should have been a 45 minute lunch service took almost an hour and a half. Luckily I wasn’t in a hurry. Dining room seemed to be understaffed as there was a single waiter serving at least half the tables in the place. I’ve had good service on previous visits and will be returning next time I’m in DC to give it another shot because the food is too good to pass up.
Not kid friendly. Zero service. Good food.
Founding Farmers was a cool place. It gets very crowded, so make sure you make a reservation. The people there are very sweet and the food is pretty good!
Got brunch here with my wife and it was great. Prices weren’t bad at all and the service was very good. I got the chicken and waffles and my wife got one of the sausage egg Benedict meals. Both were delicious. We only had coffees so I’m not sure about their mimosas or bloody Mary’s but by the experience we had I’m sure they would be great. The place was busy in a good way so you knew it was going to be delicious.
All the food we ordered was delicious. Very accommodating to my food allergies
So good, make sure to make reservations!
My husbands order came out incorrect and by the time they brought out the correct order my food was cold. The food was good tho but I wish we had a better experience.
Wonderful Easter meal at Founding Farmers. Price was reasonable for quality. Can’t wait to go again! Delicious!!!
We had reservations for 4 people at 6:15 PM Saturday night and we were sat at 6:40 PM
We ordered 4 entrees and one was completely wrong and took 15 minutes to get the correct entree.
We ordered a second round of drinks and after 30 minutes we still didn't have drinks, so we cancled the order and requested the check.
The food was very good, but not extraordinary. We prepared and well priced. The ambiance was unique and very comfortable.
I would go back, but not on a busy Friday or Saturday.
The food was terrific - there were lots of dishes to choose from, pleasing everyone from adults to children. The service was on the slow side, which was our only disappointment.
Meal had ups and downs. Appetizer farm bread with Brie and pear was excellent. We got the Mac and cheese, a rib eye, and a crazy corn chicken salad. The Mac and cheese was good. The steak was over cooked, but the sides were excellent (honey carrots and sautéed greens). The salad was unique and tasty. We finished with beignets for dessert.
Overall the highlight was the dessert. Service left something to be desired. We never got ketchup we asked for, and water glasses were often empty.
We appreciate your review, Sameer and I am so sorry to read that your steak was over-cooked & our service was somewhat lacking. :/ Our team will apply what you shared in your feedback towards improving the overall consistent meal preparation and attention to detailed service that we aim to provide. Thank you! -Amy
The best part of my delicious meal was the fried green tomatoes and for dessert the apple pie! My two favorites!! I highly recommend you try them!
The food and service were excellent. I had made an error on the date of our reservation.....on Easter Sunday and the staff still went out of their way to accommodate us. I thank the management and the staff for being so wonderful to my family.
Our reservation was at 4:00 and we were not seated until after 4:30. The food was very slow and they forgot to bring the appetizer.
Our waiter was very nice and personable.
As expected, the restaurant was very busy. We were seated 40 minutes after our reservation. We had the pleasure of sitting in a very tight area next to one of the most difficult diners I have encountered--obviously not the fault of the restaurant. The food was quite good, however, the ambiance misses the mark for me personally.
Ginana, I am so SO sorry to read that the enjoyment of your visit was compromised on multiple counts- one where we failed and one that was a fluke. :( We really appreciate your kind patience with the delay this time and really hope to have you back soon! I will send you a PM to stay in touch. -Amy
We had Easter brunch there. It was of course very busy so service was a little slow, but our waitress was very pleasant. The food was very good. I look forward to trying other items.
Went for Easter. Arrived, 20 minutes before reservation and waited until proper time. Front host was friendly but seated us at incorrect table. Had to wait another 25 minutes until another table was ready. Wasn’t sure why as she kept seating others who had later reservations and we only had 3 in our party.
- Our server Rasheed was Excellent!!
- Ambiance was great!!
- Restaurant was bright and clean
- Food was decent this time but I guess it being Easter, the chefs might’ve been stressed. French toast hard and over cooked. Tried putting extra syrup in it to soften it up but just instead ended up eating out the middle. Crab eggs Benedict was not good either this time. Eggs were perfect. Crab was super salty and mushy and overly breaded. English muffins were burnt. I would’ve complained to the sever (wasn’t his fault) but it would’ve taken too long to correct. The drinks took 40 minutes to come out and the food to about 45 minutes, so there’s that.
- My wife said that the upstairs women’s restroom had two stalls out-of-order, so she had to wait in line.
Waited 15 minutes to be seated for a reservation I made a month ago, and then did not get our food or drinks for 45 minutes after ordering. Great ambiance, but not so great service.
My family and I had a reservation on Easter Sunday and the only table available was the communal table. Although I can understand that Easter is a busy brunch day, the restaurant was really loud and the front entrance was packed with people waiting for tables. Not only was the restaurant overly crowded, but we had to wait over an hour for our meals. We probably saw our waiter twice and received our meals at different times, one of which was missing a side dish. We love founding farmers usually (especially the one in Potomac) but the overall service was pretty disappointing.
They sat us 45 minutes after our reservation time, didn't come to the table for another 15 minutes after that, and failed to provide silverware until 10 minutes after our food first appeared.
RachelS, I am super sorry to read about the many mishaps & delays that took place with the service during your visit. Please know, our Management Team reads all reviews to learn what we did wrong and what we need to improve. It is without a doubt, that we need to work on our overall timeliness & delivery, and we greatly appreciate that you let us know. Our team is hopeful that you'll try us again and I will send you a PM to stay in touch. -Amy
The menu has lost it's inventiveness and the service was awful. I am a huge fan of the other "Farmer" establishments and much prefer Farmers, Fishers, Bakers.
Thank you, JulieC for sharing your feedback and thoughts with us. I am super sorry that nothing at this location has yet to measure up- including both the food & service, and overall your time here has left you pining for our other locations. We do appreciate you letting us know and of course, our team hopes you'll try us again sometime soon! -Amy
We had a horrible server. It took 35 minutes to receive our breakfast which was basic ( eggs, sausage, hash browns and toast). Eggs were cold and unable to eat. Our server ghost us.
I visited this restaurant on Easter Sunday brunch
Luckily I could make a reservation at 10:45 am and there were so many people waiting. You definitely need to make a reservation or you need to wait about 1 or 2 hours. I had a founding farmers breakfast menu with eggs, bacon, hash browns and french toast (+ $3) and the french toast was great. It was crispy outside and soft inside hmm yummy. I’d like to visit again and try different menus.
I was disappointed. The service was horrible. It took 30 minutes to get a drink. It took one hour to get appetizers, which arrived after our meal. The food was good, but overall the service ruined the experience.
I am very sorry, JenC to read that the service during your visit this past weekend really missed the mark, and left you disappointed. :( This is such an understandable let down and I would love to touch base further. I will send you a PM. -Amy
Made reservations 2 weeks in advance, thought it was a b-fast buffet but found out via email the day before that it wasn't. Was extremely crowded, didn't get coffee until right before the meal was served almost 1 hour after ordering. In FFs defense, it was Easter Sunday but maybe plan for the expected crowd? Felt like we were hurried so they could seat the next customers. Food was good, almost as good as IHoP.
Oh bummer! I am super sorry for the confusion on our brunch menu option at this location. :( It is true that our Tysons & Reston Station FF offer a weekend buffet brunch, and this location an a la carte menu. We do appreciate that you still joined us and also for sharing your feedback. We do hope to have you back for another try and please call us at 202-822-8783 for any reservation help needed in the future. -Amy
