Founding Farmers - DC
Our server Carlos was great. Very attentive and timely as my friend arrived late from a prior mtg and traffic and our time was shortened. Got our order in and out quickly
Entire staff was awesome. Food was great we really enjoyed everything.
Had brunch with a friend. Her first time visit. Place was really cold, though. Food was outstanding as always!!
Returning customer after being away for quite some time. Surprised that menu had not changed. Remembered why we stopped eating here. The food lost its wow. The noice level was too high. Service was spotted. The wait to get seated even with a reservation was too long.
Founding farmers is ALWAYS Fresh, inventive, and delicious. I have NEVER been disappointed. Always busy, reservations are a must. Only downside is it can be difficult at times to hear conversation.
Service was particularly slow on this occasion. Food was, as usual, very good.
This was about the best meal I’ve had in recent memory! Wow! End cut prime rib and baked sweet potato! Just killer. Service was excellent as well. Thanks! Great as always.
Great food. Waited 20 minutes even with a reservation, but food and drink were all delicious!!!
It was my birthday 🎂 I had a wonderful time and the food was amazing.
I specifically asked for quietest table available— after waiting 15 minutes past reserved time, our 4 person party was seated at a table right next to the bar on the ground floor. This was absolutely the loudest place I ever have eaten at Founding Farmers. Was extremely disappointing and impacted entire experience. Two at our table were not English speakers and one person was hard of hearing so we could barely communicate during the meal. Our waiter was nice enough but this did not overcome the situation. I will not be returning.
Not sure why you would assign a server who’s shift ends 15 minutes after we are seated. The place was empty but you sat someone right next to us instead of placing an empty table between us.
This is by far my favorite place to eat in the DC area. The food is great (the wings are to die for) and the bartenders make some tasty drinks. The constitution and the blackberry sour are my fav!
The food wasn't that great.
We had a great experience here. The service was wonderful and the food was both delicious and rich. The only downside was that I didn’t have room for dessert.
Food was over cooked, pretty bland.
Our server was excellent
Great food and service. Staff is friendly and responsive. The place is always very crowded but great job overall.
When we first arrived 7 out of 10 of us were there including my elderly mother in law who could not stand very long. But they immediately declared they would not seat us until all 20 were present. Then our wine was mysteriously late as our waiter looked for help opening the bottle. Then our food came in several waves, much of it wrong, cold or both. Even the replacement food came wrong.
Hi LisaM: Thank you for sharing your review with us and I am SO sorry your family's dinner experience was only worthy 1-STAR by all counts. :( I feel badly for the lack of accommodation at the start of your visit, as well as the delay with the wine service & poor food preparation that followed. With this all acknowledged, I would love to touch base and hopefully turn around the disappointment we left you with. I will send you a PM with my email address. -Amy
Great service. Great food. Great ambience. Reasonable prices.
The manager and staff was not accommodating at all and the food was cold. I do not recommend this place at all.
Service was a little slow, but they were very busy. Server was kind but had mistakes on our drink order and check. Overall a nice spot for brunch!
The hostess was horrible and discriminatory. Waited 15 minutes after our reservation to be seated. Had an attitude with my wife. We asked to change to a booth she said it was reserved then a group asked to move that got to a different table after us and she moved them. My wife asked about it and she gave a nasty look.
Was not a fan of the Aztec Latte, or the Mocha Iced coffee. Also, the Virgina ham was a little tough. Otherwise, loved everything else. We got the eggs, French toast, hash browns, eggs benedict, fruit cup, chicken and waffles and the vanilla iced coffee. Service was superb. Loved the décor. Be sure to make reservations.
So yummmmmy. We started with the cornbread and the brie bread. Both were delicious. I don’t even like cornbread, but I LOVED that. Next we both got the yankee pot roast. It’s my favorite and I get it every time. I can’t get enough of it. Good food, good service. No complaints. We will be back for sure.
My only complaint would be:
Our table do not have utensils
Somehow we received a reservation cancelled notification while we were actually checked in and waiting to be seated.
This restaurant was terrible. Our service didn’t exist. The waiter never asked if we wanted more drinks, never asked if we wanted desert, never cleared the plates. He just disappeared.
We have eaten at 3 of the FF locations many times over the past several years, and have considered their DC location to be one of our “go to” places when we are in the city. Our experience there on Saturday evening this past weekend was the worst we’ve had at almost any restaurant, by far. We had to wait almost 30 minutes past our reservation time to sit down. Our waitress was personable but clearly overwhelmed and we barely saw her. And sadly, the food was not good. My fish was so salty that I stopped eating it, and my husband’s chicken was flavorful but quite dry. We won’t be going back.
Absolutely great service, friendly and a great experience. The drinks and food were phenomenal! I was visiting from Miami, Florida. I will fly back to DC to bring my daughters to this restaurant. Loved it!!!
Service was quiet slow and not the smartest guy. They had trouble seating everybody...you had to wait at least 10-15min after your reservation time. Food was good, just massive portions
We love Founding Farmers. But dinner last night was a major disappointment. Maitre d' was multi-tasking those of us with reservations and those without. While we were there, those with reservations had to all wait for 10 minutes or more to be seated. The appetizer took almost 20 minutes to get to our table, and our entrees was tabled within minutes of the appetizer coming out. My dinner, while full of flavor, was cold - making me wonder if it had been plated for awhile before being brought to the table. A drink refill for our table sat for at least 10 minutes on the bar, which was right by our table, before being brought to the table. I actually thought about walking over to get it but was afraid to offend the wait staff. This was not the Founding Farmers we know and formerly loved.
Hi NotAPickyEater: Oh no. I am real sorry to read your recent experience missed the mark in more ways than one. :( I feel badly this was the outcome of your visit and would love the chance to touch base about what you shared. I will send you a PM with my contact info and hopefully find a way to make this right! -Amy
Great concept...farm to table, great energy, we loved the decor and ambiance
Founding Farmers is a classic D.C. restaurant, but perhaps the fame has gotten to their heads — despite making a reservation for dinner, the foyer was mobbed with what looked like at least 50 other people waiting for tables. I had to wait about 10 minutes to get seated. The service was so-so, probably due to how busy they were. Our appetizer wasn't served until after our entrees. The food was awesome, as always, but I found the service and organization of the FOH could use some work. Still would recommend, but not if you're looking for a relaxing night out, or if you're in a rush.
Overall this is a very nice place. This latest visit was on a Sat. evening and it was very crowded. Had to wait a bit for reservation, but not too bad. Because of the large crowd the service was quite slow. Food is very good but drinks are overpriced.
While the food was very good, I must complain about the service. We had a reservation at 5:30 and didn't get seated until 6 pm. The wait to get seated was unacceptable. Once seated, however, the food came out quickly and the ambience and wait service were excellent. I would recommend the shrimps and grits and the roasted root vegetables. The food was very fresh and the portion sizes were generous. Despite the long wait, I would go again.
The food was delicious, and the TABLE service was excellent. Our waitress, KK, did a superb job. However, although we had a reservation and arrived on time, and although we told the front desk that we had theater tickets, we had to stand and wait 20 minutes to be seated. Two of us are 80 years old. The area around the front desk was crowded with people from the door to the entrance to the dining room. The experience was unpleasant to say the least. For that reason, I cannot recommend the restaurant.
Always busy, and open table is highly recommended. We ended up sitting at the bar, but do not regret it. The bar tender was a master of his craft, and seemed to enjoy sharing his knowledge with us. Awesome food, drinks, atmosphere, people, everything was worth it!
I really like the restaurant, but when we arrive at the restaurant we had to wait even though I had reservations. The staff that greeted us at the front stated that “because the number of people had changed we weren’t guaranteed a table so we stood for an extra 20 minutes which I thought was very unprofessional. Don’t know if I would return.
The Vanilla Creme French Toast might just be the best in the city. Highly recommend.
I love founding farmers! I invited my friends there who came to visit it was their first time and they enjoyed it.
My wife and I came here because we'd heard so much about it. Point #1, make a reservation. Some people around me when I checked it were told an hour and a half wait (this was at 1 PM on a Saturday).
The food was delicious. I had the chicken and waffles my wife had the Founding Farmers breakfast. Only compliant was the chicken tenders where a little small. Copperwood in Shirlington does chicken and waffles better--for the price.
We each had the breakfast spirits. She really enjoyed hers (something with Pear), I had the Strawberry Fizz. It was ok, mostly foam and more lime flavor than Strawberry. My wife said she'd order her drink again in the future whereas I wouldn't order the Strawberry Fizz a 2nd time.
