Founding Farmers - DC
While our restaurant is supplied by hundreds of family farms everywhere, that doesn’t mean we know every farm, and that doesn’t mean we never have to buy product from the traditional (corporate) supply chain, but it does mean we’re working hard to direct our purchasing dollars where it aligns with our values.
We’re serving the best food we can, made from scratch in our kitchens every day. Our innovative, American dishes are made primarily with pure ingredients honoring the farmers and their hard-earned bounty.
The restaurant is upscale casual, which welcomes business casual dress, and dress that would be appropriate in a nice restaurant; this includes jeans and athletic wear, and warm-weather clothing, including shorts.
My group really enjoyed the food. Service was very slow all around. Or drinks to once 30 minutes to arrive. Probably closer to give minutes. Summer was good and we ordered cookies. Again a 30-45 minute wait. Won't be returning or recommending. All and all disappointing.
Very good indeed.
Not kid friendly. Zero service. Good food.
Got brunch here with my wife and it was great. Prices weren’t bad at all and the service was very good. I got the chicken and waffles and my wife got one of the sausage egg Benedict meals. Both were delicious. We only had coffees so I’m not sure about their mimosas or bloody Mary’s but by the experience we had I’m sure they would be great. The place was busy in a good way so you knew it was going to be delicious.
So good, make sure to make reservations!
My husbands order came out incorrect and by the time they brought out the correct order my food was cold. The food was good tho but I wish we had a better experience.
Wonderful Easter meal at Founding Farmers. Price was reasonable for quality. Can’t wait to go again! Delicious!!!
We had reservations for 4 people at 6:15 PM Saturday night and we were sat at 6:40 PM
We ordered 4 entrees and one was completely wrong and took 15 minutes to get the correct entree.
We ordered a second round of drinks and after 30 minutes we still didn't have drinks, so we cancled the order and requested the check.
The food was very good, but not extraordinary. We prepared and well priced. The ambiance was unique and very comfortable.
I would go back, but not on a busy Friday or Saturday.
The food was terrific - there were lots of dishes to choose from, pleasing everyone from adults to children. The service was on the slow side, which was our only disappointment.
Meal had ups and downs. Appetizer farm bread with Brie and pear was excellent. We got the Mac and cheese, a rib eye, and a crazy corn chicken salad. The Mac and cheese was good. The steak was over cooked, but the sides were excellent (honey carrots and sautéed greens). The salad was unique and tasty. We finished with beignets for dessert.
Overall the highlight was the dessert. Service left something to be desired. We never got ketchup we asked for, and water glasses were often empty.
The best part of my delicious meal was the fried green tomatoes and for dessert the apple pie! My two favorites!! I highly recommend you try them!
The food and service were excellent. I had made an error on the date of our reservation.....on Easter Sunday and the staff still went out of their way to accommodate us. I thank the management and the staff for being so wonderful to my family.
Our reservation was at 4:00 and we were not seated until after 4:30. The food was very slow and they forgot to bring the appetizer.
Our waiter was very nice and personable.
As expected, the restaurant was very busy. We were seated 40 minutes after our reservation. We had the pleasure of sitting in a very tight area next to one of the most difficult diners I have encountered--obviously not the fault of the restaurant. The food was quite good, however, the ambiance misses the mark for me personally.
We had Easter brunch there. It was of course very busy so service was a little slow, but our waitress was very pleasant. The food was very good. I look forward to trying other items.
Went for Easter. Arrived, 20 minutes before reservation and waited until proper time. Front host was friendly but seated us at incorrect table. Had to wait another 25 minutes until another table was ready. Wasn’t sure why as she kept seating others who had later reservations and we only had 3 in our party.
- Our server Rasheed was Excellent!!
- Ambiance was great!!
- Restaurant was bright and clean
- Food was decent this time but I guess it being Easter, the chefs might’ve been stressed. French toast hard and over cooked. Tried putting extra syrup in it to soften it up but just instead ended up eating out the middle. Crab eggs Benedict was not good either this time. Eggs were perfect. Crab was super salty and mushy and overly breaded. English muffins were burnt. I would’ve complained to the sever (wasn’t his fault) but it would’ve taken too long to correct. The drinks took 40 minutes to come out and the food to about 45 minutes, so there’s that.
- My wife said that the upstairs women’s restroom had two stalls out-of-order, so she had to wait in line.
Waited 15 minutes to be seated for a reservation I made a month ago, and then did not get our food or drinks for 45 minutes after ordering. Great ambiance, but not so great service.
My family and I had a reservation on Easter Sunday and the only table available was the communal table. Although I can understand that Easter is a busy brunch day, the restaurant was really loud and the front entrance was packed with people waiting for tables. Not only was the restaurant overly crowded, but we had to wait over an hour for our meals. We probably saw our waiter twice and received our meals at different times, one of which was missing a side dish. We love founding farmers usually (especially the one in Potomac) but the overall service was pretty disappointing.
They sat us 45 minutes after our reservation time, didn't come to the table for another 15 minutes after that, and failed to provide silverware until 10 minutes after our food first appeared.
The menu has lost it's inventiveness and the service was awful. I am a huge fan of the other "Farmer" establishments and much prefer Farmers, Fishers, Bakers.
We had a horrible server. It took 35 minutes to receive our breakfast which was basic ( eggs, sausage, hash browns and toast). Eggs were cold and unable to eat. Our server ghost us.
I visited this restaurant on Easter Sunday brunch
Luckily I could make a reservation at 10:45 am and there were so many people waiting. You definitely need to make a reservation or you need to wait about 1 or 2 hours. I had a founding farmers breakfast menu with eggs, bacon, hash browns and french toast (+ $3) and the french toast was great. It was crispy outside and soft inside hmm yummy. I’d like to visit again and try different menus.
I was disappointed. The service was horrible. It took 30 minutes to get a drink. It took one hour to get appetizers, which arrived after our meal. The food was good, but overall the service ruined the experience.
Made reservations 2 weeks in advance, thought it was a b-fast buffet but found out via email the day before that it wasn't. Was extremely crowded, didn't get coffee until right before the meal was served almost 1 hour after ordering. In FFs defense, it was Easter Sunday but maybe plan for the expected crowd? Felt like we were hurried so they could seat the next customers. Food was good, almost as good as IHoP.
We made a reservation for Easter morning at 9:30am. We arrived at 9:20 am to check in and did not get seated until almost 10:00am. Our seats were towards the front of the restaurant, near the host stand. The crowd was so full in their lobby, I had people bumping into me. The waiter was slow to greet us, took our drink order; coffee, a diet soda and an Arnold Palmer, and it took almost 20 minutes for the drinks to be served, (it was funny that the Arnold Palmer was the first drink served, in 20 minutes). He finally took our order at 10:30am and the food came out at room temperature. The food flavor was good, but the temperature, the service and the crowd doe not encourage me to come back. It seemed as though they were unprepared for the Easter crowd, I don't understand why. (If you can not be ready and make it an enjoyable experience, why take so many reservations?) I've heard a lot of comments about Founding Farmers, but this experience was poor.
We had a 9:30 AM reservation and were sat at 9:50. We were told they sat parties with in 10 minutes of the reservation. That would have been helpful information prior to arrival. We have a child and did know their reservations were a close approximation. Hostess was a little rude and I guess she did know why we expected to be sat in accordance with our reservation. We were sat and waited 10 minutes before someone acknowledged us. Food was really good. Great hash browns and sausage. Coffee was really good but we had to ask for refills.
Always love Founding Famers! Easter brunch was no exception! Got a table right away with our reservation. Excellent brunch selections! Service a little slow but to be expected on a holiday. Will happily return soon!
Great breakfast! Very reasonable prices for fresh, delicious food. Highly recommend!
Excellent food, service and atmosphere.
This was our third time to visit FF but we will likely skip on the next visit to DC. This occasion was sadly lacking on expectations. Cocktails and wine were good. Beer was flat. Starters were delicious, hot and prompt and we really enjoyed (corn bread, wings, crab and artichoke dip and avocado toast). The main courses however were very clearly fired too soon from our starters and sat under a heat lamp, which made them lukewarm and not that appetising. In hindsight, we noticed a trend with FF that they want to turn over the tables quickly, given how busy they are but it doesn't make a for a pleasant dining experience. Everything feels rushed and and doesn't allow time to enjoy the food and atmosphere or event to enjoy more drinks or cocktails! _Also, as a note to the restaurant--you should really consider the size of out serving platters to the size of tables you use. There was little to no room for everything on our table for 5 people, so much so that we had to move the water bottle and condiments to the chair to allow for some space._
Great food and drinks! We were seated quickly and our waiter was great. Definitely recommend the mussels!
The food was delicious and desert was great! A little loud where we sat but that would not stop us from going back.
Service was horrendous. Half the food wasn’t delivered and it was difficult to even get a drink refill. Should have known the experience was going to be rough when the hostess staff was abrupt and dismissive. This is all a shame because the food was very tasty but it doesn’t matter how great your food is if the service experience is subpar.
Shrimp and grits delicious! My husband had Chicken Pot pie which was flaky, fresh and flavorful! Fried green tomatoes done perfectly. Atmosphere with a cool vibe but a bit noisier than I’d like.
After hearing about this restaurant, I found it very underwhelming. It does not deserve the hype. The food was on par with restaurants like "The Old Spaghetti Factory", except TOSF has tastier options. The restaurant space was fun, and my friends and I enjoyed the kettle corn. But, it wasn't worth going to again or recommending.
Even with reservations we had to wait. We were seated 30 minutes after our reservation time.
Service was very poor
We had high expectations because so many people say such great things about this place
But our experience was so disappointing
We were so excited to return to FF. When we dined here last spring, everything was perfect. Today, not even close. We arrived early for our reservation, checked in, and ventured outside to wait. Close to our reservation time, we entered the restaurant and took a seat at the bar. We ordered two glasses of wine and a coke. The $49 cost would have been fine for good wine, but the Rose was mediocre. While at the bar, we noticed three tables near the windows without patrons clean and ready to go. We checked on our reservation a few times, but they were not ready for us. Those tables remained empty. Finally, 45 minutes after our reservation time we were brought upstairs. We passed three more tables- uncleaned, but vacant. We were brought to a tiny table and were virtually on top of another couple. At least fifteen minutes went by before our server showed and drink order was taken. We ordered our food at the same time, as we’d had more than enough time to look over the menu. We ordered the hot chicken sandwich, Mac and cheese with chicken fingers, and the meatloaf. My non picky, adult daughter did not eat her chicken sandwich. It was more of a Buffalo Chicken taste- which she does not care for. My meatloaf and potatoes were cold. The gravy was already congealed when it arrived. The beans were tasty and crisp; definitely the best part of the meal. The Mac and cheese was tasty, as was the small amount of chicken fingers. The side of green vegetables was tasty as well. While our server was friendly, she was nonexistent. For the price, Founding Farmers is not worth it.
Great menu, delicious food, great service, fun ambience!!! My teens loved it too!
