American
Founding Farmers, the Greenest Restaurant in DC, is owned by the more than 47,000 family farmers of the NDFU, serving American inspired real food and drink with an emphasis and focus on cooking from scratch. While our restaurant is supplied by hundreds of family farms everywhere, that doesn’t mean we know every farm, and that doesn’t mean we never have to buy product from the traditional (corporate) supply chain, but it does mean we’re working hard to direct our purchasing dollars where it aligns with our values. We’re serving the best food we can, made from scratch in our kitchens every day. Our innovative, American dishes are made primarily with pure ingredients honoring the farmers and their hard-earned bounty. The restaurant is upscale casual, which welcomes business casual dress, and dress that would be appropriate in a nice restaurant; this includes jeans and athletic wear, and warm-weather clothing, including shorts.

We went on a Saturday morning at 9 am. The place was packed. We were glad we had a reservation. Coffee and hot chocolates were very good. We had waffles, pancakes, chicken and waffles and founding farmers. The fresh whipped cream was delicious on the waffles with strawberry. Wait staff was attentive and helpful.

Founding Farmers came up all over in recommendations for dinner as well as breakfast and lunch. We had reservations for Valentine’s Day and were seated right away. According to the staff our 6PM Rez was before the dinner rush! Our meal and service was excellent. The room was buzzing, but we could still have a conversation with ease. People were dressed up and down. Overall it’s trendy and comfortable.

I am usually irritated at a restaurant to have the main course arrive instantly after the appetizer has been cleared. I like a break before a new flavor is introduced. However, there is absolutely no excuse for serving the hot entrees beside the only have eaten appetizers especially on a tiny table. We sent them back to the kitchen to be served after we finished our first course. Who wants a cold dinner on a cold night!

Hello. Having dined at the Potomac Park and Tyson-McLean in the past, we decided to give this one a try.
Although the food was good and the service was cordial and attentive, our go-to location will be Tyson-McLean, which has a more interesting menu, much nicer decor and atmosphere. The music was a little too loud. We loved our waiter, though.

My mother recommended from last time she was in DC. It was ok. Long wait for check in after having a reservation. Good seats. Food was about average. Nothing special. Overall no complaints! Bloody Mary was the best part, as it was the best item I got.

We went planning to order from menu as the brunch wasn’t cheap but menu wasn’t available. We did buffet and were not disappointed. Food was very good and incredible choices.

Disappointed. Food was great, but service was unusually different. My friend and have not seen each other for sometime. We ate, had a glass of wine and paid for our meal. We drank water after and chatted. After a period of time, our waiter took my friends glass and attempted to pull my water glass out of my hand. I guess we overstayed! Sad!

Although nice and polite, the server was not very knowledgeable. He also seemed not to care about our concerns after he misrepresented the menu items.

I have loved FF for years, and I have recommended to anyone visiting D.C... BUT it seems like every time we come here lately there is someone on staff who is cold or unaccommodating. This time it was our server. She really was bizarre to us. As an example, I asked her if she could bring us a spoon so we could pack up our extra food and she said "Can't you use that one?", pointing to the one on my coffee cup saucer. It was just so odd, like she didn't want to be gracious at all. Isn't she trying to earn a tip? I still have hope for FF and the reception staff was very sweet so I'll keep trying.

Has brunch reservations at 12:30. Waited about 15 minutes to get seated. Ordered some drinks all bloody Mary’s (they were really spicy so if you don’t like spice i would let them know). Ordered the chips, crisps, and dip app which was delicious. Had the crab cakes, pot roast, and the american platter. All were really good!

My husband and I went for our anniversary. Our server never asked if we were celebrating anything. Ambience was nice. Food was tasty, but my husband’s beer was room temperature the 2 times he ordered it. Service was very slow. It took 20 minutes to get the drinks we ordered and dinner took another 20 minutes to arrive after appetizers were cleared. our server disappeared for extended periods during service. I didn’t order a second drink or a dessert because of the slow service. We probably won’t be back.

The Moscow mule was undrinkable. The fresh ginger
Actually made our throats feel weird - almost a burning
Sensation. They should sample some cocktails since they are made with fresh Ingredients to ensure they don’t over power the drink. Food was prepared nicely - reasonable

Amazing food; the flavor profiles on our dishes (shrimp and grits and steak; pickled veggies and bacon-wrapped dates for appetizers) were exceptional. We ordered a lot of different cocktails as well and they were all incredible. The staff was a bit slow... slow to first arrive and take our drink order, rarely checked back in on us (although we almost were always ready for another drink!) and our drink orders took a while; we learned to order the next round when we were only halfway done with the current round :). Maybe it was just the table we were seated at, but we were against a pillar/wall to our side and felt rather closed in. Overall a very good experience because the food and drinks were exceptional.

We'd been to Founding Farmers on previous trips to DC and had always enjoyed the food. This trip was the exception. My steak was inconsistently seasoned, being overly salty in various spots. One of the side dishes in my wife's meal was also too salty.
My wife and her friend had a lunch reservation the next day and the salty food happened again. I don't know what the issue was but we won't be returning on any future trips to DC.

Absolutely outstanding. For comfort food made from scratch, this can’t be beat. Their pot roast is better than any I’ve ever made- and as the daughter of a chef, that’s saying something!
