Founding Farmers - DC
While our restaurant is supplied by hundreds of family farms everywhere, that doesn’t mean we know every farm, and that doesn’t mean we never have to buy product from the traditional (corporate) supply chain, but it does mean we’re working hard to direct our purchasing dollars where it aligns with our values.
We’re serving the best food we can, made from scratch in our kitchens every day. Our innovative, American dishes are made primarily with pure ingredients honoring the farmers and their hard-earned bounty.
The restaurant is upscale casual, which welcomes business casual dress, and dress that would be appropriate in a nice restaurant; this includes jeans and athletic wear, and warm-weather clothing, including shorts.
Don’t bother making a reservation cause u still gone wait...
You guys double and triple book people for the same time and then create a backlog of people who are just standing at the front door. We had a reservation for 1:30 and finally got a table at 2pm. This is after so many times of checking with your front staff. After getting the table, the server never bothered getting us silverware or checking with us from time to time on our food. I had to ask several times about our food. The server had a no-care attitude. When the food came it was cold and the burgers were dry as dry can be. On top of that, the server goes ahead and puts a 20% gratuity without telling us. I had a check for $240 and I paid without my approval $40 in gratuity for the bad service, waiting for half an hour to get a table despite reservations and for the bad food. This is one place I would highly recommend everyone of my friends, family, co-workers and anyone I know NOT to come to.
Service was poor including the hostess who was very rude.
I met up with some family friends here and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The food was delicious, the service outstanding, and the ambience was happy and lively.
Every time we go, it’s a 15-20 minute wait past our reservation time. Today it was a 25 minute wait. I don’t understand why they are always so backed up.
Arrived early for a breakfast reservation and were seated right away. Greeted promptly by our server who was very warm. Service was attentive and timely. Food was delish! Coffee was so good.
It was egg-cellent
Very busy on a Sunday afternoon, but that was somewhat to be expected. Although at 4:30 PM it seemed like the place was mobbed! Very friendly and professional waitstaff. The only knock I have is that both me and my friend ordered steak and it came to our table almost at room temperature. All the food was at best luke warm and seems like it was probably sitting for a while before it came to our table.
Waiter literally did not ask for our order or acknowledge our order once given.
Saw a chef bringing in eggs from CVS. Hardly farm to table.
Honestly was very disappointed. The food was nasty and cold , i received dirty silver ware and i didn’t get waited til almost 20 mins after i sat down. Won’t be coming back.
Definitely need a reservation. We breezed in with an OT reservation but those without were waiting over an hour for a table for two. Service was a bit hit or miss but food excellent. Get the beignets!
Went for a post Valentine’s Day breakfast after a night in a swanky hotel. Ambiance was great. Absolutely no room in the waiting area and it was crowded! Make a reservation because the wait time was an hour without it. Was seated within 5 min of arrival. Food was good and the beignets are to die for! Waitress seemed like something was bothering her and was ok but could’ve been a bit more attentive. Overall, I will be back because we’ve had good experiences the times we stopped in. Two thumbs up!
We keep coming back for this one. Sitting upstairs much preferred to downstairs as the downstairs is crowded and often confusing with the number of patrons. Food and coffee are always good. We had manhattan soda, pancakes and hash.
It was great. The whole family loved it.
Great place for breakfast! Had a booth near a window which made the experience that much better!
Food was absolutely amazing! My boyfeiend and I got the founding farmer breakfast and split the vanilla cream filled french toast. Highly recommend to have a reservation. We had one for 8:45am on Sunday and when we walked up, there were already 10 people waiting for the restaurant to open. This was our first time in D.C and so glad we ate there!
The food was amazing. The portion for the sides were kind of small, but very tasty. The waiter was tremendous and very accommodating. The atmosphere is great, but it’s a little noisy. I would definitely recommend for a casual dinner or fun get together with friends.
Food and service was great. I recommend booth seating only if your on a date.
We were floored by how incredible and fresh the food and drinks were! And couldn’t believe how affordable it was for such amazing quality. Can’t wait to go back!
We try to come or Founding Farmers every time we visit DC. Such amazing service and good, always a great experience!
It took a while to get seated, but the food was great, the staff was friendly and helpful, the seating was comfortable. All good!
Fantastic food. Busy place and close proximity to others but great service and delicious food
Offers tasty well-crafted dishes made with, in many cases, organic or locally sourced ingredients. The restaurant's front house staff had, inexplicably, could not access our reservation but found it in time to seat us at our reserved time. The restaurant is incredibly popular, as evidenced by the large crowds one must wade through getting in or out. Overall, the food and the dining experience were excellent.
Best food we had during our entire DC weekend stay! Apple pie is a MUST!
Don’t bother making a reservation they kept us waiting 30 minutes and then it took 20 minutes to get our drinks
Overall we had a wonderful experience. One thing that could be improved upon is being called to the table. We have been several times and usually have a reservation. It’s always very crowded with a long wait (good sign, means its good 😉), so having hosts try to call names and make their way through the crowd is a little frustrating. Would be nice to see some kind of text/buzzer system in place for when the guests table is ready.
My mom was visiting and absolutely loved this place. Breakfast is consistently delicious! Beignets are a must-try. Make sure you have a reservation for weekend breakfast! Walk-ins had a 1.5 hour wait time at 11:30, but we were seated right away.
Love this place
Great food whether you go for breakfast or dinner. Wait time is crazy long, make reservations!
I loved my first two visits to Founding Farmers BUT I hate that you have to wait for a table even with a reservation AND the breakfast menu leaves a lot to be desired. B/c I was with a large group, I paid $60 for two cocktails, oatmeal and to split beignets. The beignets were AWESOME but its so expensive for such small menu.
Not sure what the hype is all about here. Food is mediocre and so was the service.
From the delicious coffee, to the peanut butter banana toast, to the pastrami hash there was not a single thing I didn’t love! Great fresh food and a fun ambiance! Can’t wait to go back again!
Food was good. Service was ok, we got in and to our table quickly, but service after was very slow...and asked multiple times for condiments etc which took quite a bit of time including any coffee refills.
Wonderful breakfast, incredible taste, coffee was great. Portions could be a little bigger, but getting a side to share was perfect!
The noise was moderately loud but tolerable. The food was excellent with little wait time after ordering. We will be back.
I’ve let management know about the terrible service by the waitress and unpleasant attitude.
Great food! Highly recommend !
Very good food and service. Very crowded and noisy.
Presentation of the food was nice, the amount of food was good but the items that we had lacked seasoning. We had fried shrimp and lobster/crab risotto.
