Great food and service
Friday lunch was extremely busy. Entrance was crowded and noisy, but we were seated within 2 minutes, thanks to our Open Table reservation. Service was friendly and efficient. Food was delivered to table shortly after ordering and everything was amazing. Can’t wait to go back!
The restaurant was and the stuff nice.
The food was decent but nothing amazing. We did have the “beignets” which I knew would not be like NOLA of course but they were extremely doughy instead almost uncooked. The waiter was nice to have it remade but even the second batch was the same. She did seem a bit annoyed at that. When our breakfast arrived it wasn’t hot, we didn’t have silverware or syrup so we ended up stealing silverware from an empty table and borrowing syrup from out neighbour. We were ⅔ done with our meal before we saw the waiter again.
Food was unbelievable. I ordered the lobster Mac and cheese and was amazing. However, a little pricey for the amount of lobster they give you. They only give you a little bit of lobster. I also had the sweet corn side and it was delicious.
Fantastic restaurant！Can't love more. The cornbread and Yankee Pot Roast are both fabulous！Highly recommend！ Wrongly calculated the tips，sorry to the crew…I will give more next time…
We had a reservation for 7:45 pm and did not get seated until 8:20 pm. Lots of excuses for overbooking and nothing done to make up for it. Cornbread very good. Famous deviled eggs not so famous. Steak frites good, beer can chicken good but mac and cheese served on plate lukewarm and tasteless. Ginger ale is not a ginger ale and tasted weird. Overall not too impressed.
As always FF did not disappoint. 4th or 5th visits again the food and drink was awesome. Steff ( 2 f's) was brilliantly witty and fun. Only 4 cause we were a party of 3 and sat at a party of 2 table with a 3rd chair Wish it was a 4 that sat 3. Did make a reservation and did ask for upstairs cause it's better. Had a friend from LA she was impressed. Love this place.
Recommended by a friend, did not disappoint! Food was fantastic, so fresh and the service was top notch!
Good food, but noisy and not particularly easy to carry on a conversation. Wait staff were attentive and friendy.
I go to Founding Farmers for shrimp and grits and their great small skillet cornbread, yum! I was disappointed that they do not offer a glass of Prosecco.
The food, especially the catfish and seafood risotto is out of this world! The service was awesome and it’s definitely high on my list!

Founding Farmers never disappoints. The fried chicken is tasty and our waiter made great recs.
Seems that service is an issue at this restaurant. We arrived early and were seated early which was good. Then we sat for about 10 minutes before our waiter came over. We ordered food and then waited and waited and waited. We watched several other tables that came in well after us and they received their food. It was almost 1 hour before our food was brought to our table.
I had ordered a spicy chicken sandwich and it was covered in melted cheese which was never stated in the description so I never asked. I had to send it back. My wife's meal which was the fried chicken with waffles was cold and the waffles were limp. The chicken breast was over done and the piece of thigh was way underdone.
They did comp our drinks but overall I would not go back.
Founding Fathers had great food and the table service was very good. The server was helpful when we asked for her input. One thing that I was disappointed with is that while we sat at the bar for a table and ordered a drink - the bartender upsized my drink without asking. I wound up paying 19 instead of 13. I am not sure it was a true upsize as there was so much ice in the glass. I did not make a big deal as I was with a business client - but my advice is to watch the bar bill and push back if you get upsized with out your knowledge.
Everyone thought the food was fantastic--I loved the shrimp and grits and apple pie. Server was great too. Hostess at front door needed an attitude adjustment.

Brunch ends at 2:00pm on Sunday but they do not advertise that, the waiters were uninformative and not knowledgeable. It seemed very chaotic and on top of these things our food came out cold. One positive the chicken was good, we refused to send the food back as it took forever initially to even receive it.
Very long wait even though we had a reservation
Restaurant needs to space out their reservations more. Unacceptable to make a reservation and still have to wait 30 minutes to be seated.
We had a reservation for 11:45 am. We showed up at 11:35 am, and wasn’t seated until 12:20 pm. We had tickets for a show at the Kennedy Center and thankfully our sever was great and understanding, and tried to rush our food to us. Other than her, the whole experience was lackluster and frustrating.
I expected better for a farm to table experience. Limited to know choice for gluten free. Similarly no dairy substitutions or listing of food contents on menu. Crowded, slow service, food was so-so. Not the special experience we hoped for.
Really great food for decent price. It was crowded and loud in the lobby, but once we sat it was great atmosphere. Definitely make a reservation

If you're there for brunch, get the beignets!! They are like eating a cloud. A deep fried cloud, but a cloud!! They are amazing. The rest of the meal was equally wonderful. You cannot go wrong with this place for brunch. Tip ... make a reservation so you don't have to wait quite so long.
Food was delicious. Service could have been better. Server hardly came by and was hard to track down.
Been here twice- first stop next trip to DC
First visit and the food was fantastic. Our Server was Joy. She was the best part! Great sense of humor, very timely with information, knew what she was speaking about, etc. She is the reason for the GREAT review.
Great food which is locally sourced! We had a wonderful meal with family and friends. The food is not only outstanding but really authentic for the more traditional American fare.

Saturday evening is very busy so don’t expect to be able to walking in unless you are prepared to wait for over an hour. When you do get seated you get good food all round. I would like a larger beer menu but certainly would recommend this restaurant.
Our party of 4 had a reservation at 7pm for a Sat. evening. We arrived at 6:50pm and were told it would “be a few minutes” while some diners finished. At 7:10pm we inquired again and were told a few parties of 4 were ahead of us. At 7:25pm we had noticed that a couple parties of 4 were immediately seated (!) after entering the restaurant and after shaking hands with an individual at the front of house. After inquiring about this, I was told they had “an earlier reservation.” Who the he$$ comes 1/2hour or more late AFTER a reservation at a popular restaurant? We were finally seated at 7:30pm.
But it didn’t end there...
15 min after being seated, we were Finally greeted by our waitress and 15 min later (at 8:01pm!) we finally had skillet cornbread as an appetizer. Oh yes, we had to request napkins and utensils from another waitress just before our cornbread arrived since none were on the table. SMH! Our entrees arrived at 8:30pm. Seriously?????
So, if you’re hungry, please make sure you add an hour after your “reservation” before you are given anything to eat. Add more time if not ordering an appetizer.
We will not be back...not at the DC location anyway. Founding Farmers could learn about how to properly handle reservations (and how to serve customers) by visiting any of the very popular Great American Restaurants in NoVa (e.g. Carlyle Grand Cafe, Artie’s, etc).
That said, the food was good (but not amazing) and definitely NOT worth an hour+ wait after our reservation.
A wonderful experience as always. The service was great, the food tasted wonderful and we love that there’s no corkage fee! Also, the cocktails are top notch.

The food was all over-salted to the maximum. I do not even think about salt nor I am I some sort of food critic. I have never posted a single review talking about salt, but everything from the chicken with waffles to the branzino to the fried green tomatoes were so salty that they were nearly in edible. Everyone in our party of four commented on the amount of salt that was used, and actually it left us all feeling like we had a salt hangover the next morning.
Beignets were amazing. Cocktails were refreshing. Waitress was great and had a lot of genuine suggestions. Shrimp and grits were good, but have had better. I’ll definitely go back when in DC.

Great food! Crowded, strongly suggestion making reservations.
Had reservations for 6 people and the hostess wouldn’t seat us unless all 6 were available. One of our guests were running late because of a last minute family emergency and the hostess still insisted We have all 6 or we seat 5 and “get delayed in seating” when she arrived. We had to ask a stranger to pose as our 6th person so we can be seated. When we got to our seats it was a booth that held 6 people. Thinking back to why she couldn’t just seat us with just 5 people in a booth that seats 6 in the first place is beyond me. I originally have 4 stars is because Bianca, our server, was excellent. She made up for the terrible initial experience. If you go, and manage to get past the hosts, I would ask for Bianca. She is amazing.

Lackluster food, nothing special here but the name and concept - terrible wine list and completely out of some of the wines on their very limited list. Overall, a disappointment.
Terrible service. Didn’t even have silverware to eat with and had to grab ourselves. Saw our server every 20 minutes. Took 2 hours to eat a meal that should have taken 45 minutes. Food was horrible. Tasted like they poured entire salt shaker into my dish.
It was fantastic! Definitely a must stop place in DC
