American
Founding Farmers, the Greenest Restaurant in DC, is owned by the more than 47,000 family farmers of the NDFU, serving American inspired real food and drink with an emphasis and focus on cooking from scratch. While our restaurant is supplied by hundreds of family farms everywhere, that doesn’t mean we know every farm, and that doesn’t mean we never have to buy product from the traditional (corporate) supply chain, but it does mean we’re working hard to direct our purchasing dollars where it aligns with our values. We’re serving the best food we can, made from scratch in our kitchens every day. Our innovative, American dishes are made primarily with pure ingredients honoring the farmers and their hard-earned bounty. The restaurant is upscale casual, which welcomes business casual dress, and dress that would be appropriate in a nice restaurant; this includes jeans and athletic wear, and warm-weather clothing, including shorts.

I asked the hostess to seat me in a more comfortable space & she refused even though there was an overwhelming amount of open seats. This is a quality restaurant, but this morning the hostess was unpleasant & unaccommodating.

Delicious food and overall a great experience. My group and I could really taste the farm-to-table difference. Unique options on menu. Only improvement would be on service which my server forgot the blue cheese for my steak (but he brought it after I reminded him) and also to introduce Tap for paying by card.

Everything was really heavy and extra buttery. Was really hoping for a special dinner but we left early and just asked for meals to go. Felt really unbalanced on seasoning.

Nice ambiance. Seated 15 minutes late for our reservation. Cool concept with the farm to table, but unfortunately the brunch food was just ok.

What an awesome breakfast! We had eggs, bacon, hash browns, bourbon battered French toast, and chocolate chip pancakes. The quality was fantastic and it was extremely reasonably priced. Thank goodness we made an open table reservation. It was PACKED.

Heard a lot about Founding Farmers. Was not impressed. Food was rather plain, service was disinterested, and prices were a bit higher than you would think for food of that quality.

It was busy but our server took care of us well. We had the chips and dips which were very good.
Drinks were tasty. My daughter got the lemon lime soda which was out of this world.

Prime rib was perfect with the potatoes and carrots.

A great restaurant. They were out of a lot of ingredients the night we were there. That was somewhat disappointing. But I still highly recommend.

Reservations were clearly overbooked which resulted in a wait in noisy crowded lobby. Restaurant was also loud. Food was mediocre. Not much of a wine list & what they did have was expensive for a moderately priced restaurant. Good service was the only redeeming quality.

I really like Founding Farmers but this was perhaps not the best night to go - I made a reservation but still had to wait 20+ minutes to get seated (for a table of 2). They were out of my companions first choice for an entree which was kind of a bummer. I had the scallops which were very tasty but the risotto that accompanied it tasted like a clump of soggy rice with no real flavor of its own. For an appetizer we ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes which was more fried than green or tomato in its nature. Our wine was excellent and the service was fine. Dessert portions are very generous.

Food was overpriced. Restaurant was extremely loud and cramped at entrance. We ordered 3 meals, one of which was the grilled cheese with ham and tomato soup. Grilled cheese came out without ham. The remake took 15 minutes for grilled cheese. The rest of the family was finished with their meal by the time the sandwich came back out. They did not bring a warm soup with it, so the soup was now cold. The cheese on the remade sandwich wasn’t even melted and the ham was cold. You could actually peel the individual cheese slices off of it. Told the waiter to just take the meal away because everyone else was done eating and the experience just continued to get worse. The manager then proceeded to bring a check over after I’d already given the waiter back the check and my credit card. The manager tossed the check onto the table and had a terrible attitude. The waiter was incredibly apologetic and really actually a great waiter but the overall experience was awful. I would never go there again.

Our food and our appetizers came out at the same time. Out of the four, two of our entrees was cold. They replaced one and the food was hot and delicious. The other meal certain side items were missing. We notified the waiter and he never brought them to us. We ordered wings and when the wings arrived we were notified that they were out of ranch. Which meant no ranch for the salad another person had. We usually don’t do brunch just dinner and we did not have a good experience.

A repeat customer because the food is amazing. The music is always too loud so people are yelling at each other making it hard to have a nice conversation. Loud music and yelling decreases the ability to enjoy your environment.

I want to love Founding Farmers but this location is constantly packed, especially at Sunday brunch, service slows down tremendously at brunch, and the food is pretty average. Not great but not bad. Portions are too small for the high price. Do NOT try to walk in at brunch without a reservation.

I'm just going to say it: get over yourself, Founding Farmers.

A relatively mediocre experience. Not anything to write home about, which was disappointing. The food was nothing special and the service was fine. We didn’t need to ask for anything extra but if we did we would have been hard-pressed to find our server. I would probably not get breakfast from this establishment again, especially for how much you pay.

Second time here and they did not disappoint. From the delicious cocktails to the Fried Green tomatoes appetizer, everything just tastes so fresh. Hubby's first time here and he said the Crispy Shrimp was delicious. As was my Beer Can Chicken. Despite it being the day after Valentines, and incredibly crowded, we were seated before our reservation and the service was excellent. Kudos to D.J. who handled his busy section without issues. We will be back.

Reservations do not mean anything. We had a 5:45 reservation for three people, but didn’t get sat until 6:30. We made the early reservation because we have a two year old, and waiting is not an enjoyable experience. We had been to other restaurants owned by this group, but never this location. It was clear that the place is a tourist trap. It was packed with people that had reservations and were walk-ins. The food was ok, but nothing to get excited over. It has great reviews, so this may have been an off night. The most disappointing part was the wait even though we had a reservation.

We went on a Saturday morning at 9 am. The place was packed. We were glad we had a reservation. Coffee and hot chocolates were very good. We had waffles, pancakes, chicken and waffles and founding farmers. The fresh whipped cream was delicious on the waffles with strawberry. Wait staff was attentive and helpful.
