Founding Farmers - DC
Invited out of town guests
Our reservation was at 12.45 but we waited about for 30 minutes.
The beignets were to die for! Everything was great!
Food & service never disappoint! Always a wonderful experience, besides the chaos and congestion when checking in with the hostess.
The tables are too close together. Kind of uncomfortable because it feels like you are in on the conversation at the table next to yours. Otherwise the food and service and very very good!
Wonderful brunch! Bananas foster waffles were amazing!
Reservation was for 8:15. Finally seated at 8:50. Drinks were another 20 minutes. Not the server’s fault, just really stinks to be waiting in a herd at the front of the restaurant.
The restaurant is clearly overbooking, and it’s really effecting the experience overall.
Delicious!! I have been coming to Founding Farmers every time I visit DC and I was lucky enough to bring my son along this time. He had chicken and waffles and enjoyed every bite. I had their spinach salad and garlic wings, both were great.
I can’t wait until my next trip to the city.
Overall, my experience was fair. I have been to FF at least 5 times with colleagues and spouse. Each time, I felt that the main check in confused my check in. We always reserved via Open Table. This time, although we were 30 minutes early, we checked in and waited. Although very busy, I had no doubt that our name would be called. I was wrong. I had to approach the Registration table and ask about my reservation. At that time I was told that they had a problem with the receipts and that prevented them from calling on us. They seated us upstairs after another five minutes. I asked for a both and was told that booths were reserved for larger groups... it was my husband and myself. So we were seated at a corner window two seater table. Lo-and-behold... 5 minutes later a couple was seated at the table we were denied.
The food was very fried... Fried green tomatoes and fried shrimp and fries... it tasted like it was fried in the same oil batter... blah! It was our anniversary and FF missed the mark completely. I did speak with the Manager Courtney about this. Our waitress was great.
Great lunch/brunch. For those trying to book brunch, the last time slot is 1:45 for brunch! 2:00 pm is what we booked & that was too late for the brunch menu. Delicious food, great service.
The service and food was good as always.
Waited 41 minutes past our reservation time to be seated and got told we couldn’t be seated upstairs, as requested, for 1 of our table guests with hearing aids so they could enjoy conversation. It’s so crowded and loud downstairs that people were standing in between the bar, tables, and back area at bathrooms waiting while they loudly talked with their parties. In the front area people loudly talked, pushed- it was awful. I wrote the request on the original reservation but they didn’t have it, so verbally made the request and it was written on the printed ticket (I saw it) yet the request couldn’t be fulfilled unless we wanted to wait for an additional time that couldn’t be specified. Other guests were taken upstairs to be seated that complained they waited so I’m guessing because we didn’t whine we got the bad table.
After being seated we didn’t get menus for over 5 minutes and only 1 brunch menu for a table of 4. The brunch menu isn’t really brunch like it is at any other location because they don’t bring around food. Very disappointing. Basically patrons can order breakfast of limited lunch/dinner items at this location. We were brought 2 carafes of water but no glasses. We finally got to place our order and 2 of us order eggs Benedict classic ham but 1 egg medium poach whites all the way cooked and 1 egg hard poach. Food came out and 1 egg had runny whites and 1 had runny yokes. Flagged someone down and sent food back. 1 other guest had ordered eggs over easy with their meal and the egg whites were not at all cooked but they ate it anyway. I mentioned to the waitress they need to talk to the cook about cooking the whites because they should have been done and she said “no, only on medium eggs and hard eggs”. Not true. We had 2 people completely done eating before the other 2 ever got their food back. Of course this time everything was like rubber. We ate it and left. No offer to take a dime off the check. Res was at 11:45 and we left at 1:50-Crazy!
We had a reservation for 11:45 but arrived at 11:20. We were told they likely couldn't seat us early, which was fine. What wasn't fine was we weren't seated until 12:20 and they at a communal table with a family. We had to share the syrup and salt and pepper. Then our appetizer came out before we got drinks and our food quickly followed without time to eat the appetizer. The food was not as good as usual and we all felt sick after. Terrible experience.
Complete disregard for reservations. We were sat an hour after reservation time. Very poor service from waitstaff and food was not very good considering the wait time.
The food is good, but it's hard to mess up eggs and ham. The cappuccino tasted like it came from the machine in the United Lounge, but I'd be willing to overlook that. What makes Founding Farmers hard to recommend is the failure to honor OpenTable reservations by the busload. We stood with 30+ other people with reservations, waiting over 40 minutes for the table we had RESERVED via OpenTable.
Waited 30 minutes past our reservation time. Management has to figure out a system for the waiting area. Over crowded, no one could get in or out the revolving door or to the hostesses when names were called. Either take less reservations and/or figure out how to manage the people waiting. No body wants to be in a chaotic environment before they eat. Food was okay, the gravy was lacking flavor.
Had to wait 45 minutes even with a reservation. Shame on you Founding Farmers, I won’t ever be back. It is clear you overbook your restaurant on purpose!
Girls weekend end in DC !
Founding Farmers was highly recommended by a close friend of mine. The food was delicious! It was a wonderful experience and I hope to come back again one day!
This place had some great food. I felt like I was trying to be rushed out of the restaurant though in order to make room for the next group. It was also very noisy.
We were promptly seated at our reservation time. Our server was helpful with recommendations. The food was delicious. We returned the next day for brunch and thoroughly enjoyed it, too!
Their food is always GREAT!!
Poor service. Wait 15 minutes for coffee. Waiter did not ask for drinks. appetizers and main dishes served at the same moment; no place enough on table.
Lots of options. Very tasty. Good for a small group
If I'm given the task, I always book Founding Farmers when we have business meetings. The service is great and the food is delicious.
Excellent food and service. Definitely make a reservation. The cornbread is famously delicious, but the butternut squash ravioli deserves attention. It’s wonderful. The staff is patient and professional and knowledgable about the menu. I almost forgot, the drink menu is also nice.
After having reservations and arriving a few minutes early we had to wait nearly 50 minutes to be seated. I understand they were busy but that is just poor planning. The manager made us feel better by bringing over some cake, but boy oh boy I don’t have an hour to just stand around waiting for a table especially when I had a reservation.
Wait staff are amazing and the food is so delicious. Well worth reserving ahead of time. Will be returning in the future.
Good food excellent service but too crowded among tables and noise level very difficult
Really fun place with great service. It's so loud, though. Hard to even find a place to stand and wait for your table. Fantastic food.
Poor service. Slow, orders messed up and runners were irritated to be asked for things like silverware. Needs hospitality training.
Founding Farmers always had great food and wonderful service.... I had the Yankee Pot Roast and it was perfect.....they also have a wonderful bar with a terrific set of drink choices.... Founding Farmers is a great place to meet friends for social or business reasons....one of my favorite places in DC!!
Our most recent meal was a real disappointment. The food was thoroughly mediocre. I had the Good All Greens salad with shrimp. The salad was bland and the shrimp were anemic. They looked and tasted like they had been microwaved. A friend had the spicy chicken sandwich - it too looked and tasted sad - like it had been withering under a heat lamp for hours. Not sure if they were having an off night, or if things have gone down hill in general. I'll be hesitant to go back.

Fabulous restaurant. A must do stop when in DC! Love this place! Great food, helpful staff, and yummy interesting cocktails!
Hi Cupcake: Hooray! We really appreciate your wonderful feedback and hope to have you back soon. :) -Amy
We had the best time, took one of our coworkers their to celebrate their upcoming retirement. Couldn’t have picked a better place to go. Reservation for 4 was honored upon our arrival, at we were promptly seated. Waitress was patient and attentive, not overly. Food and drink options were good, no Mindori liquor thought and someone in our party wanted a drink prepared that included the liquor. Food was hot and delicious. Our party had shrimp dinners, beer chicken and a modified crispy chicken salad was served with roasted chicken... Most certain everyone will return.

Will definitely go again! Want to have the mousse again.
I had a very nice lunch with a coworker. Both of us loved the chicken pot pie on a cold rainy day.
Excellent food and service
