Founding Farmers - DC
Need to book at 9:00 PM?Other great restaurants with availability.
Took 25min to get the bill when the place was empty; probably because ALL the waiters were in the back tables eating instead of taking care of customers.
Delicious food. Service is what you would expect from a place that makes everything from scratch. Had two picky eaters and they cleaned their plates. Decent gluten free options - had a burger with no bun and it was amazing. The sweet potato is unreal and is like a dessert by itself!
The food was excellent. The corn bread is delicious. The restaurant was really busy and doesn’t have the waiting capacity for the volume. The tables are also really close together. We were seated at a two top and may as well have been sitting with the four top next to us.
I’m not sure “over-capacity” is a good problem to have.
Also, would suggest the servers write down the orders, part of my order was left off due to the server forgetting to order from memory...
As always the food was delicious and our server was a delight. I highly recommend Sunday Brunch. Make sure to have Uncle Buck’s Beignets. They are slice of heaven!
Wonderful place OUTSTANDING VALUE and DELICIOUS food!
My mom and I were very excited about Founding Farmers based upon the menu, but found the experience pretty lackluster. The food was edible, but certainly not worth the price. It fell short of well-executed- the food was warm, but had clearly been sitting out for awhile. The gravy on my chicken fried steak had congealed. My mom’s catfish was overly salted but otherwise not well-seasoned. Our waiter seemed aloof, and at one point forgot to bring our cocktails to the table. I would like to try them on a night when they’re not incredibly busy, because I feel like there is some potential there, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit again
Waited a long time despite reservation, and hostess basically lied to us about the wait. "Give me a minute to get you a table." turned into 1.5 hour wait. Food was OK, but not worth that length.
Simple menu and nice drinks. We tried the fig bread first and the roasted tomato soup all good. The Steak frites was what we enjoyed. Green bean on the side were fresh and a nice side. My daughter tried the rice/risotto and she liked that very much. Interesting place to try with fresh and farm connections.
Great food no matter what you order. Just wish they had kids dishes or even regular dishes in smaller portions.
I loved the food! So fresh and tasty! The chicken and waffles were great!
Very crowded at the entrance, arrived for reservation and we were told there was a bit of a wait. Told staff we would wait outside due to the congestion inside, she said that was fine and she’d make note of it. Came back in after about 10 min since it had cleared out some and heard name called. This different employee (tall lady with long straight hair) rudely said “I’ve called your name 4 times!”. I told her we told the lady at the front we’d be outside.
So obnoxious, the food is mediocre for the shitshow front staff service. She was rude, obviously not happy to be working. Never will go here again and will not recommend it for basic food
Hi EricM: Oh no. I am so very sorry for the poor impression we left you with!! I am saddened to know we started your visit off on the wrong foot, and unfortunately this also compromised the enjoyment of your meal. :( With this said, I would love the chance to follow up to turn this around and will send you a personal note with my email address. -Amy
Food's great, but it's crazy in there
Please open a location in NYC. I am never disappointed with what is on the menu. The staff is very helpful and friendly.
Horrible service. Had to ask the server multiple times for things and they served one person at our table her food (but not her drink) and the rest of us waited for ours for easily another 20 minutes. They attempted to give the table a complimentary dessert to make amends for the horrible service but then added it to our bill. It was very crowded and loud but I guess that’s what I get for booking them for lunch on a Saturday.
Food was delicious... great service as well. We will definitely be back!
Best brunch in DC hands down.
All the glasses had lip stuck on them. Server was awful food was awful would never go back or recommend.
Went to breakfast with my boyfriend and was left disappointed. My eggs had no flavor, the hash browns were way too greasy and my English muffin was stale. I’m not sure what they hype is regarding this place because the food was mediocre.
The food was delicious! Can’t wait for the next time we eat here. Also, I accidentally made our morning reservation for 930pm...the staff still worked to immediately seat us. They were tremendous! Can’t recommend this place enough.
The food was excellent , We didn't have to wait no more than 3 mins to sit and our server was a gem.. He has excellent customer service skills.. we will definitely be back again 😊
We dined at the Farmers and Spirits and it was very good. We expected the same at the Founding Farmers but were disappointed.
Fun place to gather and share
Amazing fresh food- always something new to Try- definitely the place to “experiment” with a new meal- you’ll never go wrong!!!
Elizabeth was awesome at the bar! Always a great time at FF
Awesome again. DJuan, our server was right on all his suggestions both food and drink. The food was awesome, as always. I highly recommend this place for anytime any day. Mmmmmm
Hi MarkT: Thank you for your wonderful review! We really appreciate it and hope to have you back soon. :) -Amy
Great place for a power lunch
Expected a brunch menu but just before we arrived
Popular DC restaurant and we went for breakfast, since it's one of the few non-hotel full-service breakfast places in Foggy Bottom. Food was good, although the smoked salmon was a bit too salty. Excellent service, and coffee was good. Would recommend for taking guests.
The amaro daiquiri was delicious and surprising in its daiquiri-ness.
Reservation management (table turnover) was terrible. Had a reservation for 7:45, got a table at 8:30.
We found the restaurant searching on yelp. Our party of 6 included state agency personnel so budget was important. FF was reasonable priced with outstanding service and the food was absolutely amazing. From the ice tea to chicken and waffles and the specialty drinks. We need to return just to sample the other menu items. The breads we had for an appetizer to were to die for. Hope they do not get so busy you cannot get in!!!!!
Always great service here! Food came out fast, hot, and delicious!
Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable. Love their cocktail list.
Too much waiting time at the lobby; what’s the purpose of making a reservation ? Food ok but overpriced for the quality offered.
Long time favorite of ours. We try to get in every time we are in DC. Their menu is interesting, creative, tasty and farm fresh. Getting a reservation can be a challenge but it is worth it once you get in. They also have a fun drinks menu. Music is a bit on the loud side.

We have been a few times over the years and were soooo disappointed . The server was amazing but the food lousy. We had to send the Mac and cheese back as it was cold and even once it came back it was bland and tasteless for $16! My sons meal was also cold and vegetable stodgy and gross looking . So disappointed.
I don’t really care for their reservation policy where all parties have to be there before you are seated. I made a reservation for a reason and this policy is not customer focused. The food and service were good.
Great restaurant - not worth it to go without a reservation. Would definitely go back for dinner.
Food was great. Service was not.
A group of 7 of us went for brunch where a handful of us felt very underwhelmed. The service wasn’t great - our server wasn’t well versed with the menu, denying substitutions allowed on the menu. The food and coffee drinks were okay, nothing special. The beignets w/ the accompanying sauces were fantastic. They really squeezed us into a booth but we made it work.
