Founding Farmers - DC
The food and drinks are good, but the noise level is deafening and the wait staff seems to be stretched across too many tables. Our appetizer didn’t arrive, and when we reminded them or that when our entrees arrived, we got the appetizer, and then another one 5 min later, and then yet another after about 10 min. Not a tightly run ship.
Not a fan of corn in the mushroom risotto. Would have been nice if I was told when ordering. Server was excellent as well as the rest of the meal.
One of my coworkers was not feeling well after eating the chicken fried steak but everyone else LOVED their meals. The waiting area to be seated got backed up and crowded but since we had a reservation we weren’t there long. We had great service and a delicious meal. I would recommend this place to anyone but it has a slightly higher price point so something to take in to account
Luckily, the people that accompanied me to Founding Farmers were better than the food I received. I ordered the Chicken and Waffles; the side orders (risotto, mac 'n cheese and green beans) were alright, but my chicken came out severely under cooked.
Excellent food...great customer service
I really like Founding Farmers in general. The food was excellent and the prices were fair. It was a bit high energy during our dining experience so I felt as though the music was turned up a bit too high which forced folks to speak louder in order hear each other. Usually, I am very happy with the service but this go around service was slow and a bit off in timing and attentiveness. Similar orders were given to wrong folks at the table without asking and time between receiving food and check-ins were very slow. Also, the air was turned on at full blast (cool air) over our table which forced us all to put on our coats back on in order to be comfortable. Since our server wasn't at the table as often, we could get his attention to have it altered. I felt as though our main server was still in training so I hope that when I decide to return, this was just a one time issue.
Fabulous food and great prices! Doug our server was excellent!
Relaxing with food and cocktails
A friend recommended this place but we didn’t have much luck; my husband ordered the ribeye steak and it was very greasy and overcooked. They confused my daughter food twice. My dish was the best, the ravioli with the chicken milanese.
Food was delicious and server was pleasant. We ordered the cauliflower steak and sausage mushroom gnocchi. The cauliflower steak comes with a lot of vegetables! It is big enough to share if you’re looking. Sausage mushroom gnocchi was a filling choice as well, crispy sausage and large gnocchi pieces.
Large portions of fresh food. Challenge was that appetizer (the brie bread) arrived at the same time the entree did, with dessert coming soon after. Restaurant wasn't that busy, and we appreciated getting our meal quickly - just not all at once. I can recommend the beignets and the raspberry sauce!
After hearing about this restaurant from so many friends, I had to try it. The perfect opportunity came up when I decided to take my BFF there for her birthday. She, nor I were disappointed. The food, service and atmosphere were amazing. It probably helped that we picked a rainy Sunday to go, since it was quiet and the service prompt and spot on. Business had picked up by the time we left. This is a return-worthy restaurant for sure.
Excellent Brunch!!! Very large portions, recommend sharing unless you’re really hungry. The beignets are very good.
Hi ScottK: Thank you very much! We appreciate your review and hope to have you back for another great brunch soon! :) -Amy
On my second visit to Founding Farmers but first for brunch, I was again delighted with both the meal and service. I can't wait to visit DC and this wonderful restaurant again soon!
The service at Founding Farmers was excellent. Our server was very polite, attentive and helpful at making recommendations and accommodations. The bacon lollies were amazing, as were the pork ribs. The prime rib was cooked well though seasoned heavily with salt and lacked the wow factor I'd expected from a non-chain restaurant and the side of mushroom risotto was a bit dry and over cooked. However the scallop & shrimp risotto was outstanding! Overall the dining experience and food were very good and I'd certainly return to try something else on the menu.
Been there before and this time wasn't as good. Last time I went would have ranked as one of my favorite meals ever, but this time was just okay. The prosciutto bread was absolutely phenomenal. I am fairly certain they made my first cocktail incorrectly but the second one was much better. All in all, it was a lovely night. It wasn't bad, I just know they've been better in the past.
We asked 5 times for the same thing only to have it brought by the time we finished the meal.
The food is below average and prices do not reflect this.
We got seated within 5 minutes of our arrival, thanks to opentable. We ordered our usual which is chicken pot pie and side of cornbread. Food was amazing and the service was surprisingly good. Overall, will definitely go there again.
We had a fantastic meal once again at Founding Farmers. The check in process was quite hectic. The restaurant was so busy and only one girl checking customers in. Other than that, great food.
Even having a reservation, we had to wait in a line for 20 minutes to check in. When we finally got to the front, they told us we were late even though we were 5 minutes early for our reservation but still had to wait in line. It was 45 minutes after the reservation when we finally sat down and another 15 minutes at the table before anyone brought us water while people around us sat after us and got their food before our orders were even taken. Service was extremely slow and the food was not nearly as good as any other time I’ve been there. Salmon was overcooked and not great, waffle was soggy.
Hi ClaytonR: Thank you for your review and I am real sorry to read there was a delayed start to your visit, the service was slow once seated & the food did not measure up. :( I would love the chance to touch base to hopefully turn around the outcome of your experience, and will send you a PM with my contact info. -Amy
Great Breakfast in DC! Service was super fast, staff was also knowledgeable about the menu. I would highly recommend to anyone. Definitely will help to book your table reservation ahead of time!
Hi DavidH: Wow! Thank you for your ALL STAR 5-STAR review! :D We appreciate it and hope to have you back soon. -Amy
It was delicious and superb service. Perfect dinner
Hi UMD85: Hooray!! Thank you and we already look forward to your return. :) -Amy
Great food! The hostess wasn't polite or friendly to us when we got there, we had a reservation and had to wait about 10 minutes before they showed us to our table. Apparently she was in a bad mood!
The waitress on the other hand was really nice and helpful. The food was delicious, I had the avocado toast and my husband had the chicken and waffles. Both great!
We will come back for sure.
Service was not good. We ordered a latte and it didn’t come until we were halfway done with out breakfast. When it did finally come, it was cold and flat. Our coffee was never refilled. We finally had to ask towards the end of breakfast.
We were at Founding Fathers for breakfast. We came here because on our last visit to DC< we had seen scores of people waiting to get in. For starters, the ushers aren't the most polite. But the ambience and servers are excellent. As for food, it's an American diner--don't expect innovative farm to table food. You will get a base of regular eggs, pancakes etc and has browns with "supposed" farm-healthy veggies that are mixed in with potatoes! So if you keep your expectations for a normal American diner, you won't be unhappy. Other than that, I love that it is owned by 47,000 American Farmers!!!
Hi Marsha: Thank you for your review and I am real sorry for the areas of your breakfast visit that fell short. We really appreciate your detailed feedback and hope you will give us another try in the future! Please call our team at 202-822-8783 for any reservation help needed. -Amy
I wanted to write regarding our experience with your restaurant on Thanksgiving Day. This was our first time eating out on thanksgiving, we wanted to try something different. The service was slow. My husband and I were there with our 3 kids. I understood that you guys were busy but give us a break. Joy our server took extremely long in bringing us things we asked for (utensils, to go boxes, check) and simple things like removing our plates before the next dish came in. The booth was small as it was already, so no room for anything extra. I think the worst part about dinner was when the main dishes came out with majority was being cold (mash potatoes, stuffing, gravy, kids’ sweet potatoes). She did not ask if my kids 13 years old (ham) or 12 years old (chicken) wanted kids’ meals. They brought them out kid’s plates, which my son was upset 13-year-old. And on top of that my 4-year-old got an adult turkey plate. I told them just to eat it because we didn't want to WAIT longer for our food, or for it to be placed in the microwave. This was a little disappointing for us. Especially with this being my daughter’s actual birthday and a holiday. I also thought maybe they would have done a little something for her. It was placed in the notes. This experience has made me rethink ever celebrating a holiday at a restaurant.
Hi KayB: Thank you for sharing your review with us, and for also reaching out to us by email. Again, I am real sorry for the disappointments from your family's Thanksgiving visit and am relieved we connected. I appreciate you giving us the chance to make this right and you have my contact info to keep in touch. :) -Amy
The food was good but the chaos of Thanksgiving was not!
Fantastic thanksgiving meal! Wonderful service
The cornbread and rolls were cold, the portions were small for $40.
The food was excellent! And our server was very good, especially considering she was working on Thanksgiving. However the tables were too close together and the noise level was too much! It was extremely hard to have a conversation.
Great cornbread, great cocktails and ambience. Service was fantastic.
I wouldn’t recommend it on a holiday. The limited menu wouldn’t be to enough people’s taste.
Doing this every Thanksgiving. So yummy and so reasonable.
Hi MollyM: Hooray!! Thank you for joining us on Thanksgiving and we hope to have you back EVERY year! ;) -Amy
Thanksgiving menu was delicious. Our server Ricardo was top-notch.
Went for Thanksgiving. Great price, on time seating with reservation and food was excellent. Even though it was busy our server was Wonderful. Only downfall was we got sat at a long table with other guests and by the kitchen/bathroom doors, so it was loud, you could see straight into the kitchen and servers running back and forth.
Yummy Thanksgiving meal. Better than cooking. Delicious.
We weren't seated more than ten minutes late, which was fine, but the restaurant staff looked consumed in chaos for a prix fixe meal and expected reservations. The dinner rolls were not brioche like the menu said. Some of the veggies were undercooked. My plate was not an even temperature. The menu itself was good, it waa just challengingly executed on this day. Will try to stay home next year even though I dont have a table large enough for guests.
