Founding Farmers - DC
Absolutely great service, friendly and a great experience. The drinks and food were phenomenal! I was visiting from Miami, Florida. I will fly back to DC to bring my daughters to this restaurant. Loved it!!!
We love Founding Farmers. But dinner last night was a major disappointment. Maitre d' was multi-tasking those of us with reservations and those without. While we were there, those with reservations had to all wait for 10 minutes or more to be seated. The appetizer took almost 20 minutes to get to our table, and our entrees was tabled within minutes of the appetizer coming out. My dinner, while full of flavor, was cold - making me wonder if it had been plated for awhile before being brought to the table. A drink refill for our table sat for at least 10 minutes on the bar, which was right by our table, before being brought to the table. I actually thought about walking over to get it but was afraid to offend the wait staff. This was not the Founding Farmers we know and formerly loved.
Great place for brunch. My family was running late and they were very kind to hold our table. We truly appreciated their understanding.
Every time we come to DC we make it a point to come to Founding Farmers. We love everything about it and have never been disappointed. Food is always excellent and the service is great!
I went to Founding Farmers as a celebration for my one-year anniversary with my girlfriend. Perhaps we came too late for the kitchens liking, but the food was extremely subpar for Founding Farmers. I really expected more.
Diving into that, we ordered chicken wings as an appetizer, prime rib, and the beer can roasted chicken. My girlfriend ordered the prime rib as medium rare, but the meat was extremely tough and super fatty to the point where about an eighth of the meat was inedible. Both chicken dishes were extremely dry.
Overall I’m super disappointed considering I was super excited to show my girlfriend Founding Farmers.
Made a reservation because we knew how busy it would be. Arrived on time. Waited patiently. Taken to our table only to find that “someone had given it away.” Left by the UberEats pick up station. Then seated at the worst table in the restaurant. Surrounded by brooms and cleaning supplies. Faced the UberEats pick up area and even had a pick up driver sit on the back of our booth by my mom’s head for awhile. Got to listen to the staff discuss restaurant operations because we were beside the station where they gathered as well as rang up checks. Tomato soup was delicious, but fish and chips were disappointing. Chips were not crisp - very bendy. Old Fashioned came in a mini glass with no ice. Our server was the only sparkling light of the evening - I believe her name was KK. Overall, a disappointing experience at a place with so much potential and that the hype tells you is a can’t miss when in DC.
Have been here 3 times, still can’t figure out what all the fuss is about, it’s a mediocre diner..
Service was poor. Long wait between being seated and water glasses filled and even being offered to order drinks. Never offered an option to order appetizers, pushed us right into dinner. They clearly wanted our table. Wrong entree was brought for one of our party and server became defensive and ignored us for rest of dinner. Extremely disappointing experience.
Top notch food. Spinach salad and portabello reuben were excellent. Side of sweet potato looked old and dried out but waiter also noticed and brought a great replacement.
The music was too loud, we asked for it to be turned down but they seemed to have forgotten our request. There was also a draft above our booth. The cabbage in my tuna poke did not seem fresh and my dining partner’s fish was over salted.
Was recommended to us and couldn't be more happier that we took the suggestion. Everything was top notch, drinks entrees and dessert perfect
Food is always good but I gave 4 stars for service as the waiter seems to be a bit blunt.
The food and drinks are good, but the noise level is deafening and the wait staff seems to be stretched across too many tables. Our appetizer didn’t arrive, and when we reminded them or that when our entrees arrived, we got the appetizer, and then another one 5 min later, and then yet another after about 10 min. Not a tightly run ship.
Not a fan of corn in the mushroom risotto. Would have been nice if I was told when ordering. Server was excellent as well as the rest of the meal.
I go here a lot since it’s near work. While the food is good, I’m conscious of their practice of keeping expense ingredients to a minimum. The shrimp and grits was overpowered by the spicy sausage. More shrimp!
One of my coworkers was not feeling well after eating the chicken fried steak but everyone else LOVED their meals. The waiting area to be seated got backed up and crowded but since we had a reservation we weren’t there long. We had great service and a delicious meal. I would recommend this place to anyone but it has a slightly higher price point so something to take in to account
Luckily, the people that accompanied me to Founding Farmers were better than the food I received. I ordered the Chicken and Waffles; the side orders (risotto, mac 'n cheese and green beans) were alright, but my chicken came out severely under cooked.
Excellent food...great customer service
I really like Founding Farmers in general. The food was excellent and the prices were fair. It was a bit high energy during our dining experience so I felt as though the music was turned up a bit too high which forced folks to speak louder in order hear each other. Usually, I am very happy with the service but this go around service was slow and a bit off in timing and attentiveness. Similar orders were given to wrong folks at the table without asking and time between receiving food and check-ins were very slow. Also, the air was turned on at full blast (cool air) over our table which forced us all to put on our coats back on in order to be comfortable. Since our server wasn't at the table as often, we could get his attention to have it altered. I felt as though our main server was still in training so I hope that when I decide to return, this was just a one time issue.
Fabulous food and great prices! Doug our server was excellent!
Hi Candace: We are thrilled your visit was deemed 5-STARS all around! :D Thank you and we look forward to your return. -Amy
Relaxing with food and cocktails
Hi Weekendfoodie: Hooray! Thank you and we hope to have you back for anther relaxing visit soon. :) -Amy
A friend recommended this place but we didn’t have much luck; my husband ordered the ribeye steak and it was very greasy and overcooked. They confused my daughter food twice. My dish was the best, the ravioli with the chicken milanese.
Food was delicious and server was pleasant. We ordered the cauliflower steak and sausage mushroom gnocchi. The cauliflower steak comes with a lot of vegetables! It is big enough to share if you’re looking. Sausage mushroom gnocchi was a filling choice as well, crispy sausage and large gnocchi pieces.
Large portions of fresh food. Challenge was that appetizer (the brie bread) arrived at the same time the entree did, with dessert coming soon after. Restaurant wasn't that busy, and we appreciated getting our meal quickly - just not all at once. I can recommend the beignets and the raspberry sauce!
After hearing about this restaurant from so many friends, I had to try it. The perfect opportunity came up when I decided to take my BFF there for her birthday. She, nor I were disappointed. The food, service and atmosphere were amazing. It probably helped that we picked a rainy Sunday to go, since it was quiet and the service prompt and spot on. Business had picked up by the time we left. This is a return-worthy restaurant for sure.
The tests was really busy at Sunday brunch and the waitstaff did a great job trying to keep up. We had to ask a couple of times for more water or where our drinks were. However, the food is always amazing there (my friend wasn’t a fan of the grits, but I loved my egg white scramble). I really enjoy the Founding Farmers restaurants and would go back again!
Excellent Brunch!!! Very large portions, recommend sharing unless you’re really hungry. The beignets are very good.
Hi ScottK: Thank you very much! We appreciate your review and hope to have you back for another great brunch soon! :) -Amy
On my second visit to Founding Farmers but first for brunch, I was again delighted with both the meal and service. I can't wait to visit DC and this wonderful restaurant again soon!
The service at Founding Farmers was excellent. Our server was very polite, attentive and helpful at making recommendations and accommodations. The bacon lollies were amazing, as were the pork ribs. The prime rib was cooked well though seasoned heavily with salt and lacked the wow factor I'd expected from a non-chain restaurant and the side of mushroom risotto was a bit dry and over cooked. However the scallop & shrimp risotto was outstanding! Overall the dining experience and food were very good and I'd certainly return to try something else on the menu.
Been there before and this time wasn't as good. Last time I went would have ranked as one of my favorite meals ever, but this time was just okay. The prosciutto bread was absolutely phenomenal. I am fairly certain they made my first cocktail incorrectly but the second one was much better. All in all, it was a lovely night. It wasn't bad, I just know they've been better in the past.
We asked 5 times for the same thing only to have it brought by the time we finished the meal.
The food is below average and prices do not reflect this.
We got seated within 5 minutes of our arrival, thanks to opentable. We ordered our usual which is chicken pot pie and side of cornbread. Food was amazing and the service was surprisingly good. Overall, will definitely go there again.
We had a fantastic meal once again at Founding Farmers. The check in process was quite hectic. The restaurant was so busy and only one girl checking customers in. Other than that, great food.
Even having a reservation, we had to wait in a line for 20 minutes to check in. When we finally got to the front, they told us we were late even though we were 5 minutes early for our reservation but still had to wait in line. It was 45 minutes after the reservation when we finally sat down and another 15 minutes at the table before anyone brought us water while people around us sat after us and got their food before our orders were even taken. Service was extremely slow and the food was not nearly as good as any other time I’ve been there. Salmon was overcooked and not great, waffle was soggy.
Hi ClaytonR: Thank you for your review and I am real sorry to read there was a delayed start to your visit, the service was slow once seated & the food did not measure up. :( I would love the chance to touch base to hopefully turn around the outcome of your experience, and will send you a PM with my contact info. -Amy
Great Breakfast in DC! Service was super fast, staff was also knowledgeable about the menu. I would highly recommend to anyone. Definitely will help to book your table reservation ahead of time!
Hi DavidH: Wow! Thank you for your ALL STAR 5-STAR review! :D We appreciate it and hope to have you back soon. -Amy
It was delicious and superb service. Perfect dinner
Hi UMD85: Hooray!! Thank you and we already look forward to your return. :) -Amy
Great food! The hostess wasn't polite or friendly to us when we got there, we had a reservation and had to wait about 10 minutes before they showed us to our table. Apparently she was in a bad mood!
The waitress on the other hand was really nice and helpful. The food was delicious, I had the avocado toast and my husband had the chicken and waffles. Both great!
We will come back for sure.
