American
Founding Farmers, the Greenest Restaurant in DC, is owned by the more than 47,000 family farmers of the NDFU, serving American inspired real food and drink with an emphasis and focus on cooking from scratch. While our restaurant is supplied by hundreds of family farms everywhere, that doesn’t mean we know every farm, and that doesn’t mean we never have to buy product from the traditional (corporate) supply chain, but it does mean we’re working hard to direct our purchasing dollars where it aligns with our values. We’re serving the best food we can, made from scratch in our kitchens every day. Our innovative, American dishes are made primarily with pure ingredients honoring the farmers and their hard-earned bounty. The restaurant is upscale casual, which welcomes business casual dress, and dress that would be appropriate in a nice restaurant; this includes jeans and athletic wear, and warm-weather clothing, including shorts.

Our most recent meal was a real disappointment. The food was thoroughly mediocre. I had the Good All Greens salad with shrimp. The salad was bland and the shrimp were anemic. They looked and tasted like they had been microwaved. A friend had the spicy chicken sandwich - it too looked and tasted sad - like it had been withering under a heat lamp for hours. Not sure if they were having an off night, or if things have gone down hill in general. I'll be hesitant to go back.

We had the best time, took one of our coworkers their to celebrate their upcoming retirement. Couldn’t have picked a better place to go. Reservation for 4 was honored upon our arrival, at we were promptly seated. Waitress was patient and attentive, not overly. Food and drink options were good, no Mindori liquor thought and someone in our party wanted a drink prepared that included the liquor. Food was hot and delicious. Our party had shrimp dinners, beer chicken and a modified crispy chicken salad was served with roasted chicken... Most certain everyone will return.

We loved founding farmers. Our dinners were amazing. However, the tables are so close together that we felt we were dining with strangers. It was uncomfortable.

The food is outstanding. Service was top notch. The Apple Pie ala mode was the perfect way to end our stay in the Nation’s Capitol!

The food at Founding Farmers is delicious. However, I had made a reservation for a business dinner 8 weeks prior. We had to wait for 45 minutes past our reservation time before we were seated. When I inquired about timing I was told the table before us was just sitting talking even though they'd paid the bill. A 5-10 minute wait on a reservation is fine, but 45 minutes is just plain ridiculous. They didn't even send over a manager to explain the situation. I had to request to speak to one.

I've eaten here many times and it is always a pleasure. But don't count on your table being ready on time.

This food was over rated. The crab dip was nasty- it was liquidity and had onions. Who puts long strings of onions in a crab dip??? The ribs tasted like they lathered it with hot sauce. The mac n cheese was flavorless and missing the cheese. The shrimp and grits were horrid. The flavor and taste was blahhhh. I don't know what they were aiming for. The lemaonade was tarr. We left hungry. Never again.

Delicious food & cocktails! Not your cheapest option, but everything is very high quality. This place gets very crowded so I recommend making a reservation!

My low score for service is directly attributed to the way they assign tables for reservations. I showed up 15 minutes before my time and was "assigned" at specific table, not realizing my ability to be seated was dependent on the previous guests at my assigned table finishing. I watched as at least 6 other parties of 3 were seated and did not sit down until over 30 minutes past my reservation time. Food - great. Server - great. Front hostess - not great. Management of reservations - not great.

Average food, great location, but way crowded. Didn’t help that they didn’t care that someone was literally changing a baby’s diaper on the table next to us

Hi JohnC: I am super sorry for the overcrowded environment, and baby changing that took place at the neighboring table. :( Our Management Team will surely take into account what you shared and we do hope you'll give us another try in the future! Please call us at 202-822-8783 for any reservation help needed- our team is always happy to help find a time that might not be as crowded & add a note for a quieter table to your reservation. -Amy

So great! Love the ambiance and the menu selection. Our server was excellent and we never felt like we were waiting for anything. The mac and cheese wasn’t that great and definitely didn’t look like it had 7 cheeses, but the shrimp and sun dried tomato bucatini was SO delicious.

Be prepared to wait. Even with a reservation there is a wait time. The service is awful as well due to amount of people who come to this restaurant. The food suffers as well. Its a shame because it’s a really cool place!

There is better food elsewhere. The price point is as high as other restaurants in the area, so it's not bad. The food doesn't live up to the expectations I had.

We loved the Farmers Salad, the Long-Roasted Pork Chop, and the Yankee Pot Roast, and the portions were so generous. Most outstanding of all was our excellent server. I don't know how such a busy restaurant manages to be so well-run. We look forward to returning.

I’ve often had good meals here, but after this past experience I won’t be back. Our entrees came before we could finish our apps and be cleared properly, the crab cakes weren’t cooked thru, and a member of our group didn’t get their meal until we were half way done. My side came out when I was done with my entree. And a manager never touched the table after being told about the crab cake situation. Seeing as how they’re consistently busy, you would think they’d be use to being consistent while busy.

It was our first time dining here. Our reservation was for lunch. We sat down and were provided with the menu. We ordered brunch and mimosas. Soon after placing our order, we saw other types Of food - sandwiches, salads - and different types of drinks - cocktails and beers - all of which wasn’t listed on the menu we were provided. We asked if there was another Food and drink menu, which there was, but it was too late to change our order as our food did come out expeditiously. Probably wouldn’t go back for brunch or recommend to a friend.

Founding Farmers is really really really overrated. We give it a rating of 3, but convert that into words and you end up with “average“ or “mediocre,“ depending on your POV. If you like tiny tables crammed together in tight spaces Where are you can literally be bumping elbows with the people at the next table in the middle of large crowds, expensive and far less than stellar cuisine, average service, then this might be the place for you.

Also eher alles etwas unentspannt.
