Founding Farmers - DC
Thankfully I made a reservation ahead of time! Even though I came after the big brunch rush, it was still pretty packed and there was a nice wait time. It only took a few minutes to be seated and orders were taken soon after. Our waitress was a delight! The food choices - chicken and waffles and the spicy chicken sandwich - were okay, but were plated very nicely. I’ll definitely be back again, just with different entrees and maybe trying the brunch!
Disappointed in constant wait times every time I come to visit, despite having a reservation. Today we showed up 5 minutes early and weren’t seated until 30 minutes after our reservation time.
Other than the ridiculous wait times, the food and service was amazing as always.
We waited nearly 40 minutes past our reservation to be seated. The place was overflowing with people and there were few places to wait that were still within earshot of the host announcements. Service was slow and inconsistent. We won’t be returning to Founding Farmers.
Music a bit loud and “Energetic “ for dining. Was not background at all. Service friendly. Food delivered timely. Was good. Nothing special. But enjoyed the meal.
Restaurant just wanted us out as quick as possible as there were a lot of people waiting. We only had the menu for all of 60 seconds before they wanted us to order. We ordered wine, starter and a main courses. They forgot our starter and brought us our main courses!!! We didn’t bother arguing just asked for starter to be taken off bill. Food was OK but I had “Meatloaf with Gravy” and it didn’t come with any gravy, in less than 30 mins we had from arriving to finishing our main course. Obviously the kitchen was slammed but there is no excuse for such a poor experience, definitely won’t be going again.
Surprisingly mediocre in comparison to previous breakfasts we’ve had there. Sticky table and dirty silverware when we were seated. Indifferent service. As a server placed a plate in front of my wife that was hanging off the table because there wasn’t enough room, she asked “is there anything else I can get for you”.
Excellent value for money! Very good and abundant dishes. I will definitely come back when I’m back in town. Although the restaurant is often almost full, the waiting time is really low.
I was a little disappointed that Founding Farmers didn't live up to the hype. I ordered Fish and Chips and it was served with a side of literal potato chips (i.e. not french fries as the dish was meant to be served). The server was nice about the mix-up and brought us an order of french fries later. To be honest, I was underwhelmed. It's not often you pay over 20$ for a dish and it is served with no garnish or sides to speak of (in my experience fish and chips should come with cole slaw, or at least a pickle, no?). The atmosphere was pleasant, but a bit loud for my tastes. All in all, I think we over paid for a perfectly average meal.
Our flavorful meals were brought by a very considerate server who had to tell to be heard over the din.
One of my favorite go to restaurants in DC. Always a must do! Great food, staff!
The service was extremely slow.
Our group did not appreciate having to wait until the last person arrived (unavoidably delayed by Metro). We had to stand in the entry on a busy lunch day, including one member of party who uses a cane. Meanwhile our table sat empty. We could have been out of the way of arriving diners, and more importantly having (i.e., spending money on) drinks and maybe apps while waiting. Food was pretty good, fresh. Fries that come with sandwiches (not identified as a complimentary side on the menu) were oddly bland. Our waiter did accommodate the group by offering separate checks (we would never ask for them, knowing how this can be a nuisance for servers). So, some good, some not so good. FF, please be less rigid about your seating policy.
The cost has gone way up at FF, just not worth it anymore. I will not make it my preferred place anymore. I paid $18 for a garden salad. It was just ridiculous.
I have been to FF a bunch of times. Each time the food and service have great.
Uninspired. It's really lost its "mojo." No longer tastes particularly fresh and doesn't feel local or even all that farm-to-table, as it used to. Service rushed, bored, and again, uninspired.

Was in Washington, DC for business and found this restaurant on Open Table. My flight arrived later than scheduled, and the restaurant happily changed the reservation. Restaurant was packed at 7:30pm, clientele was varied - business & families. Menu was varied (hamburgers & hot dogs to entrees). I had Beer Can Chicken, which was half a roasted chicken served with sautéed greens. I substituted watermelon salad for the pickled potato salad. My dining partner enjoyed the meatloaf. Will definitely go back the next time in DC.
Rosario our server was great. He sized up our table and gave us the exact amount of attention we needed. The food was great as usual. Finally tried the signature chicken and waffle dish. Truly excellent partially deboned 1/4 chicken with Mac and cheese and I ordered a cucumber and snow pea salad as a side. It was good but not great. Very subtle and light flavors which went well with the fried food. My wife got the impossible burger which is great here.
if I had to say anything bad is that I prefer a well done straight up black tea for my ice tea. There’s is kinda weak and not regular black tea.
We’ve never had a bad meal at any of the “farmers” restaurants. Thanks North Dakota!
It was my birthday and it was the worst meal that I have ever had on my day. The wait staff were rude. Fish was over cooked... it was all stock and no broccoli and to top that the mashed potato were filled with butter and salt. I really cannot remember the last time I had such a bad experience eating out!

I brought a friend and we loved the fresh taste of our dishes.
DISAPPOINTING. I'd heard great things about this place from a number of friends but this was one of the worst meals I've had in months (and I go out to eat fairly often.)
Had a reservation at 8 on a Monday night, didn't get seated until 8:20. Waitress was difficult to understand, slow, and seemed to care less about us. She spilled red wine all over the table and appetizer plates when pouring. Drinking water was uncomfortably warm as well.
My butternut squash marscapone ravioli was PATHETIC. Six or seven mushy, over cooked, falling apart raviolis drowned in melted butter. Zero flavor and unappetizing texture and presentation. A few of them didn't even have any filling. My plate also had one noodle that wasn't a ravioli on it which was odd.
My boyfriend's $30 lobster mac and cheese wasn't much better. Barely two bites of lobster and the mac and cheese was average at best. Outrageously overpriced and massively underwhelming.
To top it off, as we were waiting for the check, a fly landed in my glass of red wine.
Founding Farmers, do better. This was pathetic.
I've been here a couple times before, and chose this place because we are continually searching for a restaurant that offers "down home" type dishes as well as those for people who are obsessive about "eating clean." And Founding Farmers truly offers that, and I feel the prices are fair, so it is great for a group.
That said, the service was incredibly slow and the food was edible and "solid", but not special. Considering the difficulty getting a reservation, you expect more. So if you are a foodie looking for a memorable experience, I'd look elsewhere.
we did not like to table chosen for me an my out of town guest. when asked if we could sit elsewhere I was told....."well it's already in the system"
ABSOLUTELY an d have been since my first visit last year!!
I was able to catch up with my college roommate for lunch and this was an excellent choice! Plenty of delicious things from which to choose and service was relatively fast.
Not bad, food was good, service was nice but absent. We came for brunch and our server, although nice and pleasant, stopped by our table 3 times, to introduce herself, order, and provide the bill. We wanted some ketchup and hot sauce for our hashbrowns and eggs but unfortunately we couldn't flag anyone down. No one stopped by to ask how our food was until the very end.
Even after reservation, wait for at least 45min to find available table.
The waiter was not helpful with an allergy and his only solution was a plain hamburger. I know there were other options but he did not seek them out. Will never go back.

This was our first visit and everything about the restaurant was outstanding. We have been talking about the delicious food everyday. Highly recommend and look forward to our next visit.

Quality of service has definitely declined. We got the cornbread appetizer which was not warm. Our waiter was also very slow to return to our table. The steak and enchilada meal was pretty good, I just don't know that this restaurant is worth the hefty bill you'll receive at the end of your meal. The ambiance is overshadowed by a loud atmosphere. Can think of better restaurants to eat while visiting DC for a more authentic experience of all the city has to offer.

We came to Founding Farmers with some out of town guests for brunch, but we were a little too late. Martinique was our server and she was OUTSTANDING!!! Our experience with service in the DMV has been questionable at best. However, she helped us decide delicious lunch options and was extremely knowledgeable about the menu. We were able to speak with the manager about our exceptional service and Tucker put a lovely bow on top of our experience. We will definitely be back sooner than later!! OpenTable reservation did not enable seating within 30 minutes. Tables offered were uneven and against wall. Pasta arrived dry. Unfortunate event.

I had a good experience because I read some bad (but helpful) reviews. I made sure to ask the host if we would be seated close to our reservation time. We told him that we had a tight timeline and wanted to be realistic. He was helpful. We were seated quickly. We sat at our table for about 10 minutes before our server came over. He was friendly and knowledgeable, and busy. We wanted a quick lunch and he made it happen. The food is good. The menu has something for everyone. It is very busy and the service is okay. I’ve been in before when the service was much better. It’s just a busy restaurant in need of more timely and attentive service.
Even though we arrived on time for our reservation, we were told it would be a 15-20 minute wait. 30 minutes later we were finally seated (after someone who had the same time reservation and the same party size that checked in immediately after we did). They got my son’s order wrong (but did fix it) and I never got the drink I ordered, even though I asked about it two times after initially ordering, and was told someone was making it. Finally when we were done eating I asked that it not be made because I didn’t want to wait around just to have my drink when we were completely done our meal (and when I told the waiter to take it off of the tab, he seemed confused that I have even ordered a drink, even though I saw him write it down, I had asked him about it another time, and had asked the person who brought us our food about it. Even the person at the next table commented that she has heard me ask about it twice)
The waffles were undercooked, tasted like batter. I sent it back and ordered another one, same deal. They put cinnamon sticks in the syrup, and the syrup was watery. Bacon was super oily, wasnt dabbed at all. Oil was dripping off the bacon and splashed everywhere when I bit into it. Grits were unseasoned.
The cucumber drink was amazing

My waffle was cold had to send it back the second one was a little better. Forgot to serve me bacon had to wait on that. Waitress was friendly. It was very busy and therefore this is why I believed the service was baf
We had a reservation but were not seated for another 20 minutes past our reserved time. Our waiter was not as attentive as I would have expected for the reviews I've seen about this restaurant. The food was delicious.
I had made a reservation for 1130 today which was not honored. We ended up having to find a spot at the bar at noon which was awkward because because we had theater tickets at 2 PM. I made these reservations weeks before and no one seem to care. Do better! You are a great restaurant but you need to take care of your customers better than you do.
