American
Founding Farmers, the Greenest Restaurant in DC, is owned by the more than 47,000 family farmers of the NDFU, serving American inspired real food and drink with an emphasis and focus on cooking from scratch.

While our restaurant is supplied by hundreds of family farms everywhere, that doesn’t mean we know every farm, and that doesn’t mean we never have to buy product from the traditional (corporate) supply chain, but it does mean we’re working hard to direct our purchasing dollars where it aligns with our values.
We’re serving the best food we can, made from scratch in our kitchens every day. Our innovative, American dishes are made primarily with pure ingredients honoring the farmers and their hard-earned bounty.

The restaurant is upscale casual, which welcomes business casual dress, and dress that would be appropriate in a nice restaurant; this includes jeans and athletic wear, and warm-weather clothing, including shorts.

My second and last time her, for sure. I don't understand the hype about this place. Why in the world should it it be rated so highly on Yelp? It seems that it is frequented most by tourists.

When we went the other weekday for breakfast, there were tourists dragging their luggage in to the entrance. It was a disconcerting sight to have chaos with lots of people waiting at the entrance. (reminiscent when friends would drag me to a Cheesecake Factory or TGI Fridays) Luckily we had a reservation and were seated as soon as my friend arrived.

We requested a quieter area so we were brought upstairs and sat in a booth, after requesting one. The service was OK, but the food was rather ordinary- like what would get at a second or third rate diner in NYC.

Maybe this place is popular because there seems to be no other restaurants around the area.

I ordered the catfish that was too spicy and I usually enjoy a little heat. Although I was forewarned, the heat of the blackened catfish detracted from my overall enjoyment of my meal

I ordered the chicken and waffles. The chicken was so fresh and delicious but the waffles came out cold and hard. I send them back and they came back warm but got cold while I waited on syrup. The cornbread we ordered was tasty but again it was cold which was weird because it was in the pan it was cooked it. I think if everything would have come out at least warm it would have been ok but our service was apologetic and gave good servicemen the chicken was definitely the star of the show!

Stopped by here early for a meal after training. Enjoyed the prosciutto but the portion was large for one traveler. Salad was lovely, fresh. Server was kind and patient. My one complaint was being told by the hostess I was only allowed to stay until 6:15 even with a reservation. In my defense, my party of one became two so I think the server and the restaurant should have been able to make enough profit. I did not appreciate the condescending attitude but otherwise everything was delicious and delightful!

My group really enjoyed the food. Service was very slow all around. Or drinks to once 30 minutes to arrive. Probably closer to give minutes. Summer was good and we ordered cookies. Again a 30-45 minute wait. Won't be returning or recommending. All and all disappointing.

I don’t get what all the hype is about. The food was ok. Nothing outstanding. Very crowded. Sorry I don’t get it, mediocre food. Considering the popularity of the place, I do think the prices were reasonable. Good and friendly service.

In town for a family gathering for an Arlington Cemetery funeral. Arrived at 1:00pm for a 2:00pm reservation with 12 persons. The staff figured out a way to get us seated together well before 2:00pm, a very nice gesture.

Extremely over rated. This place is average at best. Service was sub par, drinks are way over priced and food was only ok. Eggs were over cooked but couldn’t send back because server was mia. Too many other places in the area to choose from.

Great food and service at a reasonable price. We saw large lines at Easter weekend and couldn't schedule a table until Monday. They were very accommodating. I got the the sea food dish called Chowder Bucatini-- it had a linguini type homemade pasta in a tomato sauce with shrimp calamari and clams-- excellent taste and portion at only $21 dollars. My wife had the salmon-- she was happy with her dish as well. Everything is made in the restaurant. We had a simple vanilla ice cream that finished the meal. The restaurant even has a view of the Potomac River. I have captured the restaurant in my contacts as my favorite in Washington. Just make reservations in advance.

Came for lunch while on a work trip. Food quality was absolutely outstanding but service was poor. Took over 20 minutes to have drink order delivered and what should have been a 45 minute lunch service took almost an hour and a half. Luckily I wasn’t in a hurry. Dining room seemed to be understaffed as there was a single waiter serving at least half the tables in the place. I’ve had good service on previous visits and will be returning next time I’m in DC to give it another shot because the food is too good to pass up.

Got brunch here with my wife and it was great. Prices weren’t bad at all and the service was very good. I got the chicken and waffles and my wife got one of the sausage egg Benedict meals. Both were delicious. We only had coffees so I’m not sure about their mimosas or bloody Mary’s but by the experience we had I’m sure they would be great. The place was busy in a good way so you knew it was going to be delicious.

We had reservations for 4 people at 6:15 PM Saturday night and we were sat at 6:40 PM

We ordered 4 entrees and one was completely wrong and took 15 minutes to get the correct entree.
We ordered a second round of drinks and after 30 minutes we still didn't have drinks, so we cancled the order and requested the check.

The food was very good, but not extraordinary. We prepared and well priced. The ambiance was unique and very comfortable.

I would go back, but not on a busy Friday or Saturday.

Meal had ups and downs. Appetizer farm bread with Brie and pear was excellent. We got the Mac and cheese, a rib eye, and a crazy corn chicken salad. The Mac and cheese was good. The steak was over cooked, but the sides were excellent (honey carrots and sautéed greens). The salad was unique and tasty. We finished with beignets for dessert.
Overall the highlight was the dessert. Service left something to be desired. We never got ketchup we asked for, and water glasses were often empty.

As expected, the restaurant was very busy. We were seated 40 minutes after our reservation. We had the pleasure of sitting in a very tight area next to one of the most difficult diners I have encountered--obviously not the fault of the restaurant. The food was quite good, however, the ambiance misses the mark for me personally.
