Founding Farmers - DC
While our restaurant is supplied by hundreds of family farms everywhere, that doesn’t mean we know every farm, and that doesn’t mean we never have to buy product from the traditional (corporate) supply chain, but it does mean we’re working hard to direct our purchasing dollars where it aligns with our values.
We’re serving the best food we can, made from scratch in our kitchens every day. Our innovative, American dishes are made primarily with pure ingredients honoring the farmers and their hard-earned bounty.
The restaurant is upscale casual, which welcomes business casual dress, and dress that would be appropriate in a nice restaurant; this includes jeans and athletic wear, and warm-weather clothing, including shorts.
As usual, good food and nice wait staff.
Slow service, slow to be seated, order and receive order. Decent food this time... not as good as last year.
To wait over an hour for two simple breakfast entrees consisting mostly of eggs is a joke. This place came highly recommended so maybe it was an off day, but we were utterly disappointed and will not risk wasting our time or money here again.
Awesome food! Awesome service! Great experience!
You will not be disappointed eating here. Everything is delicious! Service is great as well.
This is my second time visiting for brunch and I’m not sure if I want to come back.
Our server was very unprofessional and seemed to hate her job.
She did not introduce herself so I asked what her name was. Orders were not taken by the tables seated in order (two tables were seated after our table, and yet our orders were taken at very last). And we had to remind her what we ordered multiple times.
At this point, we didn’t even expect to be checked up through out our brunch.
The utensils were very old and knife was very dull. There was what appeared to be uncleaned sauce from the last time the dish was used on our waffle plate.
I understand this place is very busy, but servers should not be given unbearable number of tables as the quality of service drastically goes down as well as the quality of dining experience. Maybe we were just “unlucky” with our server, not sure.
But I don’t think I’ll come back.
Wonderful atmosphere and food. One negative is cost of beverages. Cheapest cup of coffe is $4.50?! Certainly ok to include upscale java options, but a reasonably priced cup of Joe would be a welcome addition to the menu. We stuck with water.
It is wholesome food with a great vibe and great service at an even better price! Can’t be outdone! Thank you founding Farmers!
Fantastic! Server was very attentive. Food was great.
We look forward to doing breakfast at FF every time we are in DC.
Waited over 15 min to be seated from our reservation. Waitress was rude and hard to find. Coffee came at the same time as our meal. Food was fine, but nothing special.
Fantastic experience. Terrific food, service and overall atmosphere.
Four of us visited and were shown to our table promptly. Our server was attentive and friendly. I ordered the chicken fried steak with green beans and mashed potatoes. The food was Fresh, Hot, and Flavorful. The chicken fried steak had a nice crust crust to it, but it was a little on the spicy side. For dessert we had beignets. This was the best part of the meal. The bagful came with three topping sauces that further enhanced the experience. I’d go there again. Make sure to make a reservation, the place is bustling.
15 minutes after our reservations they finally seated us, after allowing many parties with times after ours to be seated. I figured at first that is was due to us only being a party of 2 and needing to use large table for larger parties, until I realized the tables all split for seating of couples. The waiter hardly could be understood was constantly rushing not only us but the table around us. The tables on either side were practically in my lap, not only was it not an environment conducive to enjoying a meal I found us all interjected into other conversations. Our food came out wrong, with cold sides, our table was not level and kept spilling items, the waiter spilt water on a close by table and splattered water on other tables including ours. When we asked for a manager the front of the house person came by said sorry and walked away. Nothing else was said or done over all this is my first and last time at any founding farmers.
Very disappointed! It came recommended and it was worst dinner we had while visiting the city.
Taste bad. Too salty and sweet.
I have a hard time paying so much for "comfort food" but my teenage children inhaled their dinners. Nothing on the menu truly justified the high prices, on the other hand, everyone found something they liked. Recommend for families. The service was outstanding on a very crowded Friday night.
Be aware. You are able to make reservations for a group but if you do not all arrive at the same time the first arrivers are not allowed to be seated at a table. Policy of the restaurant. I think that was very unfriendly and not nessecary.
Good overall. Heavy food and somewhat overrated.
Great lunch and atmosphere as always
The food is imaginative and delicious. The menu is quite varied. On the day I went, the restaurant seemed a little understaffed. There were a few large parties which kept the wait staff very occupied which left the individual tables a bit unattended. The place is very, VERY noisy. This is difficult for intimate conversations but, this being Washington, DC, it might be good for discreet conversations because it would be difficult to record a conversation due to the noise. One thing I liked is that the tables are large enough to accommodate all the plates and glasses, etc. But you do end up a bit far away from your partner and do have to shout to be heard.
Best vegan burger I ever had. I’ll be back for the meatless meatloaf
Food was fresh and delicious. Enjoyed the ambience too - would definitely recommend!
Founding Farmers is overrated. I've been three or four times over more than a decade of living in DC and always have hopes that it will improve. It has not. The menu is lacking, the service is remarkably poor, and I've always had to wait more than 15 minutes for my table even with a reservation.
Food was delicious!! Service was excellent. My only complaint was the wait for a table. Even though we had a reservation, the table wasn’t ready until about 15 minutes later.
The check in experience was dreadful. Too busy, had a reservation at 7.45, didn’t get seated till 8.30!! no where to stand or sit while waiting for table. Stood outside in the rain & cold. Won’t be back
I want to like this restaurant but the long wait for a table in a jammed lobby, even when you have a reservation, makes me think twice about coming back. The night we had dinner the service could not have been worse. The waiter was nice but we had to track him down for drinks and the dinner order. Atmosphere is good, food is good but the wait and service killed the night.
Would have been a better review if we weren’t rushed from beginning to end. Food was great. Very loud!
Loved loved loved everything about this place.
This place is always crowded which is a good sign. The fact that our office shared the walk with the restaurant is the reason that we went often.
I was surprised how crowded it was at 1115 on a Thursday. So glad we made reservations. We were seated by where they make the beinets, so we had to have some—dessert first! Portions were on the large side for lunch, but the food was great! Our server was attentive but not too much so.
I have been to this location many times on various occasions. This time I brought my team over for lunch and it is so nice to have a gem of a restaurant within walking distance from work. Great place with awesome service. I have never been disappointed here. Look forward to many more memorable visits!
Terrible experience. Don’t go
Great tasty fresh food!! Bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbvbbvvbbbbvbvbbbbbbvbbbbbbbbbhhhhggg
Terrible service - we’re not seated on time. Good came out cold and the waitress never checked on us once during our meal. We asked a passing waiter for assistance and were ignored. We then asked for a manager but was told she was too busy and they took off $11 from our tab. I will not be going back.
Great flavorful food and attentive service. I'd highly recommend it
It was delicious! Food was great. We got the chicken and waffle and Fried chicken steak. So good!
Somewhat unique food parings (fried chicken, waffle, and mac and cheese), but very tasty.
