Service was very slow - more than 15 mins from the time we sat to get water, then 10 mins before our drink order was taken, and then the bar was backed up so one drink arrived and we waited another 10 minutes for the other drink. The menu is expansive unless you have any dietary restrictions or you are vegetarian. The pasta was not seasoned.

We had a reservation for 6:15, and show to see that started at 7:45. We were seated at 6:35. We ordered immediately, told the server we had plans after dinner. At 7, after not having so much as received our sodas, we left without dinner. Poor planning, poor staff, badly served.

It was sad to see one section open with about five people working at this once very busy location during breakfast. The Coconut Chia did not have the apples, blackberries, peanut butter or honey as described on the menu. When I asked, was told it was a very busy weekend and they were out of some things. Again, sad.

The dinner our family had was perfect - yummy skillet cornbread with actual pieces of corn, a tasty bread basket, awesome fried chicken and waffles with mac n' cheese, gooey "grilled cheese" patty melt (thinly sliced bread turned into a grilled cheese sandwich on each end of a burger patty!) and sublime, perfectly cooked scallops over creamy parmesan risotto. We topped it off with a decadent slice of chocolate cheesecake.

Food was excellent. They were clearly short staffed so service did suffer, not our waiters fault though. That was the only reason for the four star. Try the Mai Tai!

I was disappointed in my trip to farmers and distillers. Our drinks took 20 minutes to arrive. Our appetizers arrived, and not five minutes later our entrees. The space is noisy and is not conducive to conversation. Our server never brought a water refill despite being out before the appetizers appeared. Would not recommend.

The pasta sauce and the spring rolls were both very salty and heavy and not really smooth or ‘feel good’. The focus was definitely on speed of turnover vs good quality cooking. The ambiance was fun and the service was excellent but this is not a top choice for great food , but probably a great choice for a group hangout.

I’ve been here with my wife three times for the Sunday brunch buffet. The food is still very good but it has gotten much more crowded which impacts the service a little. I also thought this time the food selection was not as good as it used to be and they had many dishes that were not marked at all (telling you what they were) or were misidentified. We love the bloody Mary’s here but the ones we got today weren’t mixed/stirred when we got them. Still tasted okay but only after we finished the bartender’s job. Our server was nice but never refilled my coffee; really didn’t check in us other than to remove a plate. It just seemed more sloppy and not quite the high quality it used to be, especially for the price—which includes a small markup for what was labeled “restaurant recovery”! This long after COVID shutdowns, that’s just an excuse to charge you more. Bottom line: still very good, but they need to do some work to get back to the quality they had before.

Founding Farmers & Distillers - DCResponded 1 day agoThank you for your feedback, Tim. I am very sorry this visit was not up to our standards. I appreciate you sharing this with us and I will be sure to bring it to our managers and culinary teams attention. I can’t endorse. And I’ve been here many times. The waitstaff and manager were easy to deal with, but there must b a new chef in the kitchen who is sabotaging Farmers & Distillers. Almost every entree had major problems. The cronut was too salty and had a hard candy like finish on top. And I ordered Riesling but they gave me Sauvignon Blanc (which I promptly sent back). This used to be a good restaurant but they didn’t get it right last night at all.

Founding Farmers & Distillers - DCResponded 2 days agoThank you so much for sharing your experience with us. I am extremely sorry we completely missed the mark and just couldn't see to get it right during your visit with us. This is definitely not at all up to par with our standards of food and service. Farmers and Distillers is my favorite restaurant in DC. The only problem I have with the experience is the noise level in the space, I have a hard time hearing in noisy places but I also have a hearing issue. The food is worth it, I'd eat here every time.

I don't think you can go wrong with anything! Our waiter was exceptional - attentive and helpful to offer suggestions and information about the menu items. We had the kung pao chicken dumplings, pork dumplings, drunken beef & chicken, chicken fried steak with donut and waffle, and mussels pot - all were stellar! They also make their own sodas and tonics in addition to distilling their own spirits. Highly recommend!

Rude hostess told me that the booth I asked about had no server only to have the efficient hostess seat a party. I inquired with the rude hostess and she said she would check. Instead she ignored me. The efficient host sat me at another booth. The rude one questioned her in front of me. The efficient host told her she made changes. The stocky rude hostess rolled her eyes. I requested a manager that never came.

The restaurant has beautiful decor and ambiance, but the food and service were pretty awful. The chicken fried steak I ordered was so salty that I could only eat a few bites, and the green beans - while quite tasty - were totally cold. Our waiter never came back to check on us after we received our food, and when we finally did catch his attention to order dessert, it took a sold 30-40 minutes for said dessert to arrive…and we only got one cookie and one donut. Speaking of the donut, it was disgustingly stale. The oil it was fried in must have been old, because the flavor was terrible. We had one bite and didn’t bother to finish it. We had so been looking forward to our first visit to your restaurant, but it sadly didn’t live up to all the hype.

I've been to Founding Farmers a couple of times before and the food was amazing. I suggested it to colleagues who were in town and felt horrible for doing so after this experience. Our server was pleasant. Appetizers came out and were delicious. Then, the server disappeared, our order seemed to be taking forever and we waited and waited. When she popped back up it was clear our order had been ready and sat awhile. Dishes were cold, burnt and seafood was rubbery. Extremely disappointed. While the Assistant manager did remove the dishes from our bill, after waiting an hour hungrily for our meal we'd have preferred that our orders were better. I won't count them out yet since I've experienced better from them, but I'm thinking midday is a better time to eat there.

I ordered the cheeseburger to be cooked medium, which has the American Cheese cooked inside the beef patty. When I received my burger, it was not the burger I ordered. It looked like a regular single patty burger. The server took it back and reordered the burger I ordered originally. I received the replacement burger. However, the meat was not cooked medium. The meat was almost rare and looked gross and unsafe. Although I had been very hungry, I decided not reorder anything. This was a very disappointing experience!

We went there for their Sunday Brunch Buffet. The food was good when it was brought out fresh from the kitchen. They had a tough time keeping up with the demand of food on the buffet tables…some pans were empty and not replenished right away. The dessert buffet had nothing special…If the items were replenished before they were totally empty it would have been worth the price.
