Foster's Kitchen - Kailua Kona
Great good and service.
Worth going if you can get seating by the rails with ocean view. Food was good, but nothing superb.
We’ve been here several times. The food and the service are really good. The view out to the ocean is wonderful. Always a great experience.
very nice wait staff - nice job
I had the Po’ Boy sandwich with Cajun fries. The sandwich came between to very large and thick pieces of French bread. The catch of the day was mahi mahi, which was small and thin and likely only covered half of the area of the bread. Because of the bread to filling ratio there wasn’t much taste to this sandwich, and it was a major letdown. The fries that accompanied it were perfectly cooked, but the Cajun seasoning was overdone and as a result they were extremely salty. The ambience of the restaurant was great, it is a fun place, but I go to a restaurant for the food first and because of that won’t be back.
Excellent location, excellent food, Celiac friendly
Food was better last year. There seems to have been a bit of a decline. The staff is mostly, nice. Though some of the hostesses have an attitude. We visited twice during this trip and were disappointed. Hopefully they will get back to the higher standards from before. We still love the location and the concept of local sourced food. Just please improve.
Amazing gumbo. Fish and chips a bit greasy but excellent flavor and crunch
The food was well priced and unique. We loved it and will definitely be back!
My wife and I spent our last evening out in Kona, Hawaii and thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Foster's Kitchen. The staff were welcoming, courteous and efficient. They responded quickly to all requests we had, which is high on our list for an relaxed dinner. The Flat Bread Pizza was very delicious, however it was a little pricey for its size. When it was time to pay our bill, the transaction was completed in a timely manner.
After waiting for five minutes while our hostess talked on the phone, we were directed to a waiting area where we waited an additional 5-10 minutes. When we were seated our server showed up and was quite pleasant. The food we ordered was good (not great, not outstanding) but the noise level was so loud that we could not talk. We finished our meal, skipped desert and left. We won’t be going back.
Delicious food, amazing service, romantic ambiance!
This is one of our favorite restaurants in Kailua. The food and cocktails are very good and the place is not pretentious. Both times we went this past week, the service was a little disorganized, mainly thanks to computer glitches. We've been before when everything worked flawlessly. But this is Hawaii and the relaxed attitude is commendable and we enjoyed it.
Loved it, great dinner and fantastic wait staff named Basil. A memorable sunset!
They have a large varied menu, food is always excellent, and service is friendly and attentive. Props also for having a nice selection of wines available by the glass.
Great service! Excellent fish tacos, and nice live music.
Amazing ribs and good ambience....always reecommended when in Kona!!
I am willing to perhaps try Foster's again because 50 per cent was knocked off my meal and I received an apology. But, I was disappointed that the food arrived cold, and I had to flag down the server to let her know. The lambchops were then re-heated up by putting them back on the grill (fortunately they were not overdone as a result), not sure if the polenta was reheated on the grill as well (it was warmish), but the vegetables were cold (even colder than when sent back). I flagged down the server again and asked for some hot vegetable to be brought out, which was done and they were good and hot. A free dessert was offered, but I am not a dessert person. I appreciated receiving instead 50 percent off my meal, though better restaurants I have been in usually comp the whole meal, and usually don't just heat up the meal that was sent back on the rare occasions I, or dinner companions, experienced cold food. I have read many great reviews, so I hope that this was an unusual experience.
Foster’s Kitchen is our go-to spot whenever we have guests come into town. Exceptional food and service, beautiful views, and wonderful ambiance. Great job!
Mediocre food. Decent service.
The view is hard to beat, but the food is mostly average. The steak I had was relatively bland and, while properly cooked, was loaded with hard fats. The Caesar salad stackers belong in a TGI Friday’s. Drinks were ok but not great. You’re paying for the view.
We had a wonderful meal with great service and beautiful ocean views! Everything was great: the drinks, appetizers, meal and the Monkey Bread dessert.
Food was good, drinks were good, but our waitress got us mixed up with another table. Told us she was giving us a free dessert because of our unusually long wait, then never came back. Had to flag her down for the bill and after inquiring about the dessert she brought us one. Sort of put a damper on the entire meal.
Great sunset watching, great service, fresh tasting seafood dishes
We made our reservations online at OpenTable. Once we arrived, we were seated in the middle of the room, while several tables were open along the rail. Unfortunately, when making a reservation, you must request at table along the rail. Lucky for us, someone cancelled their reservation and we were moved. The drinks, food and service were excellent. This location is truly wonderful with a spectacular view of the bay. We will return.
Server was great! Cute place. Pizza was very good.
We made reservations so we got to our table quickly. The restaurant was full. I had the surf and turf, and my wife the Triple Catch. We enjoyed our meals. The drinks were not watered down.
I think this is the best restaurant in Kona, beautifully presented food, very tasty, great cocktails!
Best pasta in town. Cute location. Excellent service. Will come back again and again.
Our server Pete was very attentive and gave us excellent service. Get the Monkey Bread dessert, it was outstanding. Make sure to have a reservation as you’ll need it. But don’t let the “teenage” hostess push you around.
Enjoyed a very nice Valentines Day dinner with my other half. Seated within 5 minutes of my reservation. Lychee martini was excellent. I had the Seared Ahi with crab hollandaise sauce. It was delicious. My wife had the Cajun Pasta that was a nicely balanced spicy. The place was a bit loud as it was packed. Music/entertainment was forgettable. All in all a great experience and we'll return again.
Waitress was extremely nice and attentive, even with it being Valentine's day she made sure that we were treated like the only customers there.
Fosters Kitchen more than lived up to the Triple D recommendation. Food was outstanding and the wait staff exceptional.
The food would have been better if it had arrived at the table hot instead of warm
We had really great service and good food. The restaurant is open sided with a beautiful view of the ocean. They have parking in the back which is good, because parking gets expensive downtown. Go during happy hour for cheaper drinks and appetizers.
Friendly but disappointing! Mahi fish was greasy and not hot. Ribs were good. Side of coleslaw was very small. Overall, wouldn’t return.
Great service. Good value dinner. Nice setting. Varied menu.
Great dinner watching the beautiful Kona sunset. Beer cheese & pretzels hot and tasty. Stuffed chicken entree and candied bacon chicken sandwich were delicious, as well.
I gave this restaurant low scores because we had been there two years ago and it was much better then. We had a dessert then that was wonderful and we had it again this time and it was more expensive a smaller amount and it was baked too long, I would never order that again. The french fries were fantabulous almost the best I've ever had. The fish was a small amount and very thin and had a breading on it and not particularly good. This is a restaurant on the second level on the ocean totally open no walls and it was extremely noisy. I was really surprised that it was so bad even trying to hear the three other people at our table.
Great views if you can sit near the railing
