I can’t believe I have been living in San Diego for over 5 years and have never tried this place before now. It is so good, affordably priced, and the service is impeccable! Can’t recommend this place enough! 10/10
Great vibe, decor, drinks, and food. Order everything and get ready to share.
Large, family style portions at very reasonable prices. Service was a bit slow. I would have really liked to sit inside. The patio was underwhelming with a lot of street noise.
Loved the ambiance and the food! Such a cool spot
So happy I was able to finally come here! Not only is the ambience amazing but the food is delicious and reasonably priced! Definitely will be visiting again soon.
The staff was so friendly and welcoming. The restaurant is so beautiful and the food is delicious!!
Dinner with my kids
A hidden gem! The food is absolutely amazing and the decor is pretty cool.
We loved everything! Food was great, atmosphere was great! They also gave me an ice cream since it was my bday :)
Awesome service and great food!
Fortunate Son was recommended to me from a Twitter friend in the San Diego area. I told her we would try on our trip down from the Bay Area.
I don’t even know where to start. We tried Crab Fried Rice, General Tso Chicken, Salt + Pepper Shrimp and the Green Beans. Everything was AMAZING from the food, service ( Alicia ) & the specialty cocktails from Polite Provisions next door.
We will be back!
Well, making reservations only led to a 4:30 seating. OK, we could live with that but when we arrived their "table of choice" was literally up against the podium where the "greeter" was standing. We asked for another and was told "that's it" yet "4tops" were available further away and there were two 4tops occupied by only two people each. We then asked well, we will sit inside then (as it was vacant, remember it's 4:30) and we were abruptly told "you asked for outside" "and this is it" "you can't have inside" "you reserved outside".
We left and never to return.
We had such a great time! Music was good, decor is fab, food was amazing, and the drinks from next door are always top notch. Definitely coming back soon!
Absolutely delicious food and drinks! Short wait for the food also! The best music ever 🤟🏼
We had the Kung-Pao chicken wings, honey walnut shrimp, pork spare ribs, and the green beans; and everything was delicious. Great service, and lovely ambiance. I can't wait to go back.
Loved all of it!
Fortunate Son exceeded my expectations. Everything we ate was 10/10 and our server was so friendly and helpful. I would recommend Fortunate Son to everyone! Highly recommend the green beans, cauliflower, and crab rangoon (and have fun exploring the entrees)!
Great drinks, and we loved the cauliflower!
One of my favorite Chinese food places to dine as well as take out. Love the Kung Pao chicken, General Tso cauliflower, Dan Dan noodles, and fried rice. The drinks are from Polite Provisions and never disappoint.
Four of us "older ladies" started off next door at the sister spot, Polite Provisions to celebrate my friend's 70+ birthday with some cocktails. When it was time for our reservation the wonderfully attentive waiter happily guided us (and carried a drink or two) through the back connecting entrance into the restaurant. We had a lovely table by the fireplace. We tried a variety of menu items and enjoyed them all (dumplings, crab wontons, dan dan noodles, a chicken dish, the cauliflower--super yummy and the beef with shishito peppers. (leftovers for all at the end). One member found the dishes all a bit spicy but was happy with the steamed rice to cool it all down. Great service, wonderful food and if there was a complaint in our group it might have been the music was too loud. However, that complaint was not voiced from us as we know if the music is too loud, you are too old!
When it comes to the San Diego dining scene, Consortium restaurants can be equated to fast-fashion retailers. While superficially trendy and attractive, the goods and services they sell are not intended to be high quality. Fortunate Son is no exception. Right off the bat, we noticed that the host, while dapper in his shiny, multi-colored, dragon-print coat, was surly. The service was decent, except our server changed in the middle of our meal. It was pretty obvious that one left without letting someone else know what we ordered, or letting us know that we were going to be taken care of by someone different for the remainder of our meal. Both servers we had were polite and accommodating, but something was definitely amiss.
As far as the food, my favorite dish we ordered were the pork rolls. Nothing to complain about there. Crispy, tasty, juicy, good deal.
Other than that, everything else we ordered missed the mark.
The orange chicken was under salted, but the sauce was good.
Beef and shishito peppers... again, the sauce was good, but the beef was tough and chewy.
The Dan Dan noodles were well seasoned and tasty, but the noodles were over cooked.
The honey walnut shrimp was extremely oily and had no redeeming characteristics. They smothered it in what we assumed is a honey aioli which coated the tongue unpleasantly.
I was hungry, so I cleaned those plates, and paid for (almost) all of them (the server was gracious enough to take the shrimp off our bill since we barely touched it). But I can’t help but notice how the level of detail afforded to the decorations of the place was not present in the preparation of the food, nor the quality of service.
Whatever, that’s Consortium. It’s cute.
At least they gave out fortune cookies!
The best experience I’ve had in a while. Everything was perfect! From the moment I made the reservation to the moment my family and I walked out.
The food was remarkably delicious! My brother was visiting from out of state, and I’m glad we came here because he was impressed. I’ll be bringing my mom too.
I’d give it ten stars if I could.
Amazing place. Tastefully designed and tasty Chinese American food! Classic New York style.
Love the vibe, decor, details were everything! From the traditional take out boxes to the matches and fortune cookie 🥠 and staff uniform. Perfection!
Fortunate Son is an adorable place to eat and have drinks. The decor is absolutely cute. Chinese lanterns and flowers hanging from the ceiling and a fireplace that was a dragon I went with my daughter for dinner. I totally recommend the cauliflower if you like a little spice. Everything was delicious. Highly recommend this restaurant. All around awesome service.
Affordable and authentic, also beautifully designed. Allow some time for parking.
Super cute and festive ambience. Food was good, nothing amazing. The service started out great, and then declined a bit as it got busier.
The best Chinese food ever!!!!!!! Very nice place, super cute, the drinks, food & service was excellent! Will be back very soon!
Amazing! Great service
Lovely meal, quick and efficient service. Fun decor and reasonable prices. Definitely will return!
Overall a good experience. It being on Adams means parking will be an issue so arrive early to find a spot.
We had general Tso, beef with shisito peppers, crab Rangoon’s and more. The rangoons use actual crab so it can be a bit oceany for some although we enjoyed them. The general tso chicken was our favorite. Overall drinks and meal were very enjoyable.
Our only laments were the rice was a bit dry and hard like the cover had been left off for too long or maybe slightly undercooked. Also most of the tables are pedestal tables on a cobble floor so if you lean on the table wrong it can tip and tilt.
Service was good. Most of our food was on the table within 35 minutes of sitting down.
I would go back.
Great food and service!
Wow! The service and food was outstanding! It was my first time in an my date and I sat inside. The ambiance and decor was amazing and you couldn’t ask for better service. A+! I will definitely be coming back. My dishes included the crab wontons, general Tso chicken, Szechuan green beans, and orange chicken all the dishes were so good!
Birthday dinner .
You will be very pleased. Everything was so good!! We will definitely be back.
My husband and I are IN LOVE with Fortunate Son. We sat outside the first time before the indoor was open and the ambiance was still great... But the inside is really fabulous. The ceiling is a creation of laterns, blossoms, and magic. Sit near the dragonouth fireplace for extra coziness.
Now for the food! So good. The egg drop soup and Beef w/ shishito peppers are a must (this beef is seriously SO TENDER). My husband likes the Dan-Dan noodles and General Tso Chix too. Can't go wrong... The food is priced really well. The drinks will be the most expensive part of the bill but they're delish (from polite provisions nextdoor).
We've taken friends to this place already also and they raved about it.
Go tonight for a date!!!!
Just what we needed! Our hosts were simply lovely.
We came here to try the Asian food and cocktails. Their cocktails were amazing, the service was great and the food was good. I loved the music they play at the restaurant as it gave a great mood vibe. We will definitely come back here. Consortium restaurants never disappoint.
It was great!
We came here to celebrate our anniversary. And hands down what a fun time we had! Great choice.
