Forno Osteria & Bar Montgomery
Everything was perfect to celebrate my husbands birthday and our very sweet server treated him to his favorite dessert! The cingalle pappardelle was out of this world- just like in Italy! Hi
After several excellent recent dinners at Forno, the last one was a bit of a disappointment. I ordered a bread basket (the only place in Cincinnati I know of where you have to pay for bread) which never came. Sad because the Blue Oven bread is excellent. A Ceasar salad was very good. My wife and I decided to try the pizza rather than a more traditional entree. The eggplant pizza could have been better. The eggplant was cut in large square cubes rather than as thinner slices. Then grated cheese was put on top after the pizza was removed from the oven--much time must have passed because it did not melt and should have been much better than it was. A sausage pizza and mushroom pizza was better, though the sausage is bland compared to what we usually experience on the east coast. We have had the the tiramisu in the past and it is superb. We were handed dessert menus and when the waitress returned we ordered the tiramisu. It was only then that she told us the tiramisu was not available (sad again). This should have been stated when she dropped the dessert menu off. We will try again since it is difficult to get quality Italian food in Cincinnati. Hope they do better next time.
Seats too close together. Noise level high when restaurant was full.
Too many tables in a tight space.
Being 1/2 Italian, I usually don't eat Italian food outside of the house, because I can usually make it better. But, Forno makes excellent Italian food better than I can. We only had 2 entrees w/ a pizza for an appetizer and one side, so it's hard to judge the entire menu. But, if I had to make a judgement based on what we ate, Forno IS authentic, outstanding and is worthy of another visit!!! Bravo!!!
Prix Fixe Menu and I ordered the wine pairings with it. Each wine showed up 5 minutes after each course was served. Food was very good. Too many tables in the dining room. Very loud with little room for the servers to navigate.
I believe that for a set menu it was a bit pricey (there were no prices listed on the set menu). I don't mind paying for good food but I would normally pay for what I choose to eat. Our waitress seemed a bit confused about serving us in the beginning and when it was time to pay the attitude seemed to be more friendly. I wasn't really interested in the wine pairing either but it was not explained that I would have to pay for it even though I didn't have the wine. It really was not the best restaurant experience I've ever had.
Our first time here! Great service and amazing food and wine!
Great Place, great service, and great food. This was our 3rd visit to Forno in the last 2 months, and we were not disappointed with anything. Highly recommended......... check this place out, I hope that you get "Amy" as your server. She was the BEST!
A small gem in Cincinnati. Service is welcoming, efficient with no rushing. Katherine knows her restaurant well! LOVE the veal picatta, foccacia bread, artichokes, Margherita Pizza to name a few. Extensive wine and beverage list, especially for a smaller venue. Sunday night is a great night for good conversation and a relaxed meal.
Deliciously prepared food. Try the gnocchi for dinner and bruschetta appetizer. Staff very friendly and attentive.
Food was excellent! Service too, and it was great to see the Chef out in the dining room taking care of his guests. He stopped by the table and answered questions about the menu, offered suggestions, poured wine, really worked the room to make sure everyone had a great experience. We'll be back!
Loved the food, the service, and the staff!
Delicious food and superb service. Seated us early and made us feel at home. We love the pizza and I was thrilled by the cod. I hadn’t seen that before and I hope they keep it.
Excellent selection. Pizza fantastic, veal scallopini tender and super flavorful.
Love the Rapini, would love to see it as a side dish and as an entree with linguine, garlic and oil !
All of the food we had was delicious. The hostess was extremely nice and gave us wonderful recommendations. Although we will most likely be back, we will not make a reservation. The tables are too close together and it is very loud, as my husband and I could hardly have a conversation with the level of noise. The servers have a hard time getting around and are constantly bumping into chairs. We will eat in the bar area next time to get more space and a quieter atmosphere.
Veal was so salty it was inedible. Noise level loud, hard to hear your own companion at table
Will definitely come back
Was cold when we first got there. Heat went up after we heard another table complain
Great food and service but the acoustics are terrible, had to lean across the table during my dinner to hear. Not sure how it could be fixed within that space.
We love sitting at the pizza bar! It’s cozy, it’s fun watching them make our pizza and it’s our little ritual during the winter months.
Great food and service, as usual.
Food and service was very good. Noise level was awful because tables were on top of each other. You couldn’t help being a part of the conversation on either side of you.
Plates our food was brought out on were huge and barely fit the table without moving my wine glass and water glass to the very edge of the table. Not that I needed or am complaining about the portions, because they were fine, but they would have easily fit on a smaller plate and still had a nice presentation
New Year’s dinner. The special 4 course dinner was spectacular! Hats off to the Chef.
Fantastic. Food was great, service was excellent. Wonderful way to ring in the new year with my girlfriend. Thank you.
Excellent service and the food was amazing
It was great! We sat at the bar and had great service.
Food is amazing! Jen was awesome! Love this place!
Wonderful evening with friends. Excellent service. Great vino. Food was delicious and properly proportioned.
Rachel our server was terrific and Christian stopped by our table to say hello.
We really appreciated Forno being open on Christmas Eve. The food was good but not as good as it usually is...the cocktails were a disappointment. I am not sure they new how to make a Negroni (it was a bit watered down.
Wonderful food and wonderful staff. A must in Montgomery!
Excellent service and delicious food. The server was very knowledgeable about the menu and able to help our party choose meals to each of our liking.
Thank you AliciaC! We are glad we met your expectations with 5 stars!
Swordfish was really salty and the was very chewy. Waitress was nice but didn’t give us time to have a glass of wine before the food came out. Overall the price was high for average experience.
Bistecca Fiorentina...two words. Admittedly not on the menu anymore, but two words well worth talking about. A steak, salad, and sides for your- and five (realistically) of your friends: so long as they share your taste in the doneness of the steak (medium rare is great, and rare is even better). As noted, this is no longer an on menu item, but we called and asked and the restaurant was kind enough to accommodate us.
Bistecca aside, Forno has a wonderful menu for its visitors. The tripe appetizer (cheap) is tasty and, if you don't think too much about it, a remarkable tribute to what can be done with offal. If tripe isn't to your taste, the octopus is fantastic; and, if even then you can't do it: go with the bruschetta.
Mains: pastas, pizza or entrees, you really can't go wrong. You'll have to be awfully hungry if you want a pasta (primi) and an entree, but it you have a decent size group with you, think about sharing. The Bolognese is disturbingly good (on the menu you have tagliatelle and early in the week the restaurant does a Bolognese lasagne).
Never really tried much dessert, so, you are on your own there. But, long-and-short, give it a try. It has a great atmosphere, a good wine selection, and great food and pretty solid prices.
Thank you Avandike ! We appreciate your feedback! Anytime you want a bistecca don't hesitate to call us; With a couple days notice we can get it in for you from our butcher. Happy holidays .
We were hoping for a more quiet evening. Two large parties raised the room noise significantly. This will not stop us from returning. We understand its that time of year. Will not recommend for a anniversary dinner - but would certainly recommend based on service and food quality.
Our server was great. The food was pretty good. The spaghetti style dish we ordered was very average. The wine was really good and priced affordable. The only thing that was negative is that they reported my reservation as a no show to open table when I was actually early and ate in the bar area.
Fun and delicious
Bar ambiance and service is fantastic and the menu and drinks so far are delicious.
Chef Daniel McCarthy made our dining experience special with an outstanding dessert!
