Forno Osteria & Bar Montgomery
The food here is awesome. We enjoyed pasta, meat and seafood options at our table and all were wonderful. Don't miss the Focaccia bread with your appetizer or meal - so simple, but so good. Great place for a group dinner or just the two of you. We even saw a table with kids that were enjoying the pizza from their pizza oven! We have also enjoyed their excellent brunch on Sundays. One of the few restaurants that truly makes everything from scratch using the old Italian methods. Highly recommend.
Food and service was just ok. Not much ambience and waitresses and hostess super casual which would be fine if you were in a casual restaurant. Suggestion get rid of jeans and T-shirt’s and add a votive or small vase to create a better vibe
We were trying this for the first time for a late Sunday brunch. The food was excellent but they only had one server (who did a great job by the way)and there were countless un-supervised children and a screaming toddler. It will be difficult for us to return. We don’t want our dining-out dollars wasted on a chaotic, noisy experience.
The server was very patient and informative. We had never been to this restaurant before and he took time to explain the location differences and all of the options. The salad, entree and pizza were great! We will be back for the Tuesday night deal.
The food here is traditional and amazing. Please order the Caesar salad! The wood fired pizza was perfectly cooked and the crust had good texture. Also, for something refreshing after dinner, order the lemon tart. Excellent. The portions were a little on the small side ($9 for two artichoke hearts as an appetizer). Our biggest complaint was the service. Our server came with water then it took another 10 minutes to take our drink order. We went ahead and ordered our meal at that point since we’d had time to look. It seemed like we were an afterthought to her. We could see into the kitchen and she would be staring off at something, we would catch her eye and then she remembered we were her table. Maybe an off night for her but we felt forgotten. At this level of restaurant (read: price) I expect better service. The hostess was very good though, as she kept us informed of the progress of our table (people wanting to talk after dinner). We were seated 20 minutes after our reservation. The food was delicious so overall was worth the wait.
As authentic as I have ever had outside of italy.
Thanks for the great review! We hope to see you back at Forno soon!
Melissa was great. So enjoyed meeting Christian. Food was outstanding.
Thank you for the great review! I will be sure to let Melissa know she did a great job. Come back and see us again soon!
We had a wonderful evening! Forno is Fabulous!
We noticed some of our favorite dishes seem even better than they were before, like the octopus and the gnocchi! Delicious!
Thanks Lori! We hope to see you back at Forno soon!
Bolognese was phenomenal. Unfortunately, the rest of our experience was very disappointing. Two large groups were there, and with little to absorb the noise, it was so loud I could hear little of what my friend was saying. Our table was close to a serving station, and without speaking to me first, a server just push my chair into our dinner table about a foot, in order to get through. I would have gladly moved my chair. Only when he overheard me comment about the rudeness to my guest, did he apologize, but it was clear he wasn’t sorry. Maybe he had a bad day, but should take it out on the customers. So overall, Bolognese was great, but would not go back. Very different from my prior experience.
Delicious meal. The Tuesday night bolognese and salad special in the bar is hard to beat.
Thanks for the great review!
Good food but got a little noisy.
Fantastic food and great service. Homemade pasta!
Thanks for the great review! We hope to see you again soon!
Delicious food, knowledgeable waiter, cozy atmosphere
Thanks Barb! We hope to see you back at Forno soon!
As always, the service was impeccable, the food was of the best quality and quantity. My favorite Italian restaurant in the city!
Great food! My fav in Cincinnati fir authentic Italian, great wine list
Great late night - wonderful late dinner , great service
Went to Forno for a birthday celebration and as per usual, they didn't disappoint! Called to get reservations
for six and they accommodated even though it was last minute. Fantastic food and service! It can get a little loud in the bar area but the night was perfect. Can't wait to return!
Very noisy. Only negative comment. Food was great.
Best pizza in the area. I love the pasta too.
The best panna cotta!!
Wonderful service, food, ambiance - everything!
This was our first visit. The couple we went with has been there a few times. Forno was a nice mix of upscale food with a kind of contemporay but comfortable decor. Pricing was reasonable. Our server was very good and super knowledgeable about the menu. Noise level was moderate but carrying on a conversation was not a problem. We will go back.
Forno is a solid Italian restaurant. My only complaint is way too noisy and too many tables cramped in. The dining experience would be enhanced with a bit more space and some sound baffling.
Staff was accomodating, food was very good. Portions appropriate. There was s good crowd but the noise was manageable. Would certainly go again. The bar area looks just right for a quick bits and a drink.
This was the best food we've had at a restaurant in a while - maybe since Italy two years ago. I tried two entrees and both were fabulous. I also had their bruschetta and it was to die for. It would have been nice to eat outside (no wine outside), the wine was pretty expensive, and it was a tad noisy but the food and service was a 5 star.
This restaurant was amazing, it takes a lot for me to write a review and this was a worthy experience. Every food item was delicious. If I had one complaint it would’ve been how loud the restaurant was. But that’s a good sign, as well!
As usual, Forno did not disappoint! We live much closer to the Hyde Park location(always excellent) but we had an event to attend close the Montgomery. Made reservation, mentioned we were on a timeline... everything superb. The avocado /tomato salad on a Cristina was fresh and delicious ( and huge!) . A perfect way to begin a casual night out. My husband ordered his “usual” pork Milanese with mushrooms (without the cauliflower ) . Perfectly pounded , very lightly breaded and the light sauce is mouth water -absolutely delish!( huge portion so saved 1/2 for lunch the next day. ). Ice iced to changed things up and I ordered three of the four crostini’s for my entree. Each one was unique , tasty and refreshing on a warm evening . Service as I mentioned was superb. My husband Super Tuscan wine pour was quite a perfect refreshment for his Milanese. Will be back soon. Maybe for Sunday night Lasagna night !
Great food, experience, service and ambience. Love this place and all it has to offer.
4 visits. Consistently good thus far. Our first time guests really enjoyed their food.
Awesome Italian wine selections, not to mention authentic Italian dishes offered in an upscale setting. A must-visit restaurant in the Cincinnati area.
Had another superb dining experience at Forno. They continue to excel on all fronts! Be back soon.
We wanted Italian food on a visit to town for a reunion and like the Montogomery area so we gave this a try. We really enjoyed our experience. Had a glass of wine at the bar before dinner - nice area and you could also eat there. The dining room is a bit loud, but in a family/friends getting together for a meal kind of way. If you are looking for quiet or a place to have a serious conversation, this isn't it. We started with bruschetta with goat cheese and honey. It was fabulous and would make a great dessert, too. Hubby had the Sunday night special of lasagna bolognese - really nice piece and very tasty. I decided to order 2 half orders of pasta - asparagus gnudi and the cinghiale (wild boar) pappardelle. Both were very delicious and I'd highly recommend them. A bottle of red and we had a great night at FO.
We had a complimentary pancake given to us from a previous dining experience. So — we thought we would try Forno for brunch. Restaurant not busy at 12:30 so noise level was low. Service slow, first pancake served was burned on the bottom. I think one order of pancakes included 2 pancakes and the 2nd one was eventually served. The second pancake was delicious. Not much apology for this issue with first pancake. We will not be back for brunch.
First time for us at Forno. Our waiter was awesome with explaining the menu and making suggestions. The food was tremendous. The noise level in the restaurant is a little loud but we could still hold a conversation without having to talk louder.
We love Forno! Great food and fun!
First time. Northbound traffic on I-71 was a complete stop. Getting anywhere near Montgomery was an issue. Took 20 minutes to do the last mile. Consequently, a lot of tables were seated yet waiting for the last couple or whatever to get there. But I think the staff did a really good job of handling the situation.
So I'll go back, but its not like its my new #1 or anything that, nor did I expect it to be.
One recommendation, I know the new hip thing is being lively, but with so many people talking about their rough time getting there we could hardly hear the people on the other side of our table as we tried to have a conversation. Later, it was fine. Maybe some ceiling acoustics could be added.
The eggplant parm (positioned as a side disk) should be a main dish - we get it all the time. Great experience as usual. Don't miss the lasagna special on Sundays!
This was our first visit which was based on a report from one of our son's that had just been there. It was as he stated, excellent. The Caesar salad was enough for three people and the pasta was truly like I have experienced in Italy in over 50 business trips and the Limoncello is true Italian!!
I took my husband for his birthday. The food and service were EXCELLENT!! Highly recommend.
The food is great. The service is great. The owner is always on the floor and talks with every customer
But, there are too many tables jammed in and the noise is off the charts . Between customers and wait staff having to squeeze in and out asking customers to move their chairs in and the noise level it makes for a hectic environment.
My advise... sit in the bar. It’s much less hectic with the same great food
