A pizza is much more than just its ingredients. A great pizza blends historical traditions with scientific subtleties. That's what Chef Michael Ayoub brought to Brooklyn when Fornino opened its doors in 2004. Dubbed the "First Chef of Brooklyn" by the New York Times, Ayoub draws from the Neapolitan style of pizza making while appreciating the formulaic approach to crafting pizza. The science behind Fornino's dough allows for each of our pizzas to come out perfectly every single time, no matter the day, weather, or topping. The Fornino namesake was borrowed from Ayoub's mother's maiden name, a nod to his family's history of baking through the generations.

This restaurant is now closed. We got an email from Open Table saying they no longer dealt with this restaurant and when I phoned the number the guy on the phone said the Williamsburg branch was closed.

Service was poor at the beginning—only two other tables were occupied and it took nearly 10 minutes for our waitress to come over to bring us water and take our drink order. Thankfully it went up from there. We had the arugula salad, meatballs, and two pizza, all of which was very good.

Okay pizza. You certainly can find better pizza in the area. Had the sausage pizza. Needed more sausage, pizza crust was burnt.

Long wait for table despite reservation. Out of sparkling bottled water. Pizza oven is great but pizzas could have stayed a bit longer becoming more crisp. Service friendly but not very attentive. Great cobb salad. Very thoughtful bartender.

Meat and cheese board was huge ! And delicious. Marinated olives were disappointing but the pizzas made up for it. We will be back soon !

Fornino is good - the pizza is delicious. I wish it was closer to the "L", as the location is a long walk from the subway. It's more for wine & beer - a few friends ordered cocktails and they had to send them back.

I have been following Fornino on Instagram for awhile and we finally had time to visit for dinner! Everything was delicious and the service was amazing! Definitely recommend the cheese board!

I'm a lifelong New Havener and I throw my own pies. I am a pizza snob, so take the following with a grain of salt:

- Very accommodating staff. Thumbs up.
- Wines list was great. Perhaps add a Chilean Carménère on there for posterity. It would couple very nicely with the buffalo mozz'.
- RE: Pizza ... good job. The sauce was just right, and the overall thickness of the pie was exactly as I like it.

My only constructive criticisms are that I think the pies need a touch longer in the oven, and the 'mantle' of the pie crust was a little too thick for my liking (for example, on traditional Neapolitan pies and Wooster-style apizze, these are typically thinner and easier to hold). In instances where the 'mantles' are prepared in this manner, it's nice to have more options for olive oil on the table (our olive oil was spiced, which some people don't really like; I didn't mind it at all). Also, perhaps specify that the white spinach pie would have uncooked spinach.

Overall, the pizzas are at least a 4.5/5; I think that pies at Fornino are better than those of Paulie Gee's (not to mention, Fornino has more locations, more room to spread out, better lighting, and less of a wait).

Bravissimi. Will definitely recommend.

I reserved a table for 12 for my birthday celebration. This was a perfect choice for a birthday dinner, since it is spacious and has an elegant, welcoming and vibrant atmosphere. The food was amazing and not even too expensive, considering this restaurant is in the heart of Williamsburg.

Fornino was an amazing experience. The laid back yet elevated ambiance was cozy and lovely, and the staff was incredibly kind. I’m Italian and a New Yorker, so I’m very selective about my pizza. The pizza here was phenomenal, and I will have dreams about the crust (usually my least favorite part) for weeks. Highly suggest this amazing atmosphere especially for family and close friends. I will definitely be back.

The flavor and quality of this Brooklyn institution survives and thrives in its new home near the water. Same incredible flavors and uncompromising pizza and desserts with the addition of beautifully crafted cocktails and plenty of elbow room, not to mention friendly, motivated staff. Schlep to the river, it's worth it

Loved the different pizzas available. We tried the classic, siciliana and one with eggplant. The dough was thin and well cooked. The toppings full of flavor. Wine list was decent and affordable. It got a little loud while the windows were open on a windy day but we enjoyed our dinner very much.

A large (24-person) group seemed to throw the wait-staff and the kitchen off their game a little bit - I got the wrong wine, our appetizer came after our pizza, and our appetizer was actually switched with what another table near us had ordered. But, the wait-staff was apologetic and seemed to at least be aware of the issue. Food was excellent, prices are competitive, and it's a fun atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit for date-night dinner.

An excellent place specializing in amazing pizza but also featuring wonderful appetizers & dessert. Everything is homemade with love. The owner, Michael Ayoub Isa true professional & is warm, friendly & very welcoming. Well worth the tri from anywhere. HIGHLY recommended
