Contemporary American
Perfect For:
  • Fit for Foodies
  • Special Occasion
  • Good for a Date
Fork, acclaimed for its contemporary American cuisine for 20 years, features Chef John Patterson's locally sourced and seasonally inspired menu. Part of Fork's allure is its hip, stylish, sophisticated interior, where the dining experience is anything but stuffy and uncomfortable. Fork's hand-painted chandelier shades catch your eye as you look above the cast-concrete bar. Modern contemporary murals painted by Anthony DeMelas accentuate the height of the ceilings. Fork earned Four Bells from Philadelphia Inquirer Critic Craig LaBan.

Waited 50 minutes after ordering for food delivery. Wife’s small plate order was right size as was her appetizer. My full size bouillabaisse was miniscule for a dish priced at 34 dollars.

It was my birthday. Food was very good, I didn’t really like our waiter. He wasn’t nasty but he wasn’t polite easer. They ask me , when I made my reservation if it was a special occasion, but no one even acknowledged that . Not that I need it, but it would be very nice.

We had a dinner reservation, but had to wait at the bar (no waiting area) for almost 30 minutes to be seated. Once seated, our server pushed the tasting menu and seemed miffed that we went a la carte. The server told us a few times, in case we didn’t hear him the first time, that the dishes including the entrees were “small plates” so we should go with the tasting menu. Then, I made the “mistake” of ordering unsweetened iced tea. The look he gave me was hilarious. He looked like I asked for unicorn blood mixed in with fairy dust. I supposed in a restaurant this sophisticated, I should order a drink as sophisticated, not iced tea. When our entrees arrived, we were surprised that they were full size, not small plates. It was nice that my dish was full size since it was $34, but what the server had told us initially didn’t sit well. I kept thinking that maybe they were trained to up sell to customers. We decided we wanted something sweet to end our evening. So, when our server came back, we ordered one scoop of ice cream each. He quirked his left eyebrow and said “just one?” “Yes, one each.” “One?” YES! ONE PER PERSON! Aside from our interesting/frustrating experience with staff, the food was delicious. Would I return? Most likely not. Would I recommend to friends and business associates? Sure, for the food.

Overall a really fantastic meal. We were brought a few small hors d’oeuvres prior to our main meal which was a nice surprise. We did the tasting menu which allows for you to pick one item from each category on the menu, and all of the food was fantastic. My only criticism is that we arrived about 2 minutes early for our reservation and had to sit at the bar/order a drink while waiting about 20 minutes for them to begin seating tables. Other than that, the service was wonderful.

A beautiful place to dine especially for a special occasion. Creative & delicious dishes plus surprise delicacies from the chef between courses. An dining event worth experiencing.

Had a lovely birthday dinner for my daughter. The restaurant pulled out all the stops and treated her like a VIP. Ellen Yin came out and personally wished her a happy birthday and let us sample all the desserts. Outstanding service, wonderful food, and extraordinary treatment.

We liked dessert best. Food was good but main courses were bland. I wasn’t blown away. For $85/person, I expected better.

Service was exceptional and very accommodating. Waitress was delightful and attentive. The food prepared in 5 star fashion and beautifully presented. The restaurant has a very chic modern décor, but the noise level was too loud for me to easily hear the waitress and the person across the table from me. Environment works for people who are just dining together and engaging in light conversation. The noise level would probably inhibit discussion for a business meeting or any gathering requiring detailed conversation.

Food was not as promised...no saffron aroma in the bouillabaisse . . . no truffle in the short ribs.

We are from NJ and first came to Fork several years ago for brunch. That brunch was so good it has stuck with me. Had opportunity to be in the neighborhood again last week for dinner and had to go back. It did not disappoint. Waitress was wonderful. We had gnocchi with lamb ragu and the bucatini to start. Had to lap up the sauce with my bread. Both were amazing. Then we shared the pork with spaetzel. So so good. Wine was good also. Only complaint is the tables are very close together on the wall booths, but what do ya do. I'll sit elbow to elbow for food this good anytime. Can't wait to go back next time I'm in town!

Visited Fork in April, 2018 with my family and enjoyed the experience very much. The food was creatively presented and tasted wonderful; the service was friendly and top-notch. My tuna tartare appetizer was so pretty, I even hesitated taking that first bite! My mother and boyfriend raved about the fettuccine starter course. It featured a "crackling" pepper ingredient that surprised and delighted them both. This restaurant's ambience is sophisticated, yet relaxing and welcoming. Validated parking around the corner made the location a winner for fine-dining in Philadelphia. I adored the beautiful wall mural that transports you outside and into the woods, complimented with live, indoor birch trees; and if you are a fan of fixtures, wait until you see the spectacular overhead lighting! Tres bien.

My friends loved their brunch, especially the sausage which was made on site. I believe I made an error in ordering the Polenta, Mushrooms, and poached egg, as it was bland at best. The service was OK. I asked for a suggestion on the menu, and was told by the waiter that he wasn't a brunch person. I asked for toast, and got "toast" but nothing with it (no butter, jam, etc.) So I had to ask again. The wine list was nice, the service was prompt. I liked the atmosphere.

Even after 20+ years in Old City, Fresh still knocks it out of the park and looks as fresh and modern as the day it opened. The food is fresh, perfectly prepared, and creative; so the menu never gets old. The service remains top notch.

Have been going here for years and always impressed, but not this time. Waited at the bar for more than 10 minutes to get bartender’s attention (2 bartenders on duty and bar not crowded). Waited over 1/2 hour for our reserved table. Pasta was very good, tuna delicious. Chicken very bland and pork was just good. Not the Fork I have always come to love over the years. If it was my first time here, I would not come back.

Fork is without a doubt one of the best restaurants in Philadelphia. If you haven't been, you must go. Every single morsel was delicious, the service was outstanding, and the ambiance is beautiful. John Patterson's food is innovative, creative and most importantly delicious. We are truly lucky to have this restaurant in our city!

Delicious, wonderful flavors. Appetizer and pasta first course portions large enough to share before main. Some food very rich, made my husband ill later that night but don’t think anything wrong with food - just be aware gnocchi and steak dishes delicious but very rich if you have issues digesting/tolerating. Service excellent. Wine by bottle quite expensive, no lower end options. Good but very pricey experience.

Food was inventive and delicious. Wonderful wine list. Two small complaints: the “house menu” (tasting menu) was too much food. It was nice to try lots of things and I usually have a healthy appetite, but I couldn’t finish it all. Also, it was uncomfortably loud. I could barely hear the server when she was explaining things. My husband and I had to shout. The food was great but not the best place for a date night.

We were meeting friends from out of town who were visiting for a wedding. We arrived first and were promptly seated and offered complimentary still or sparkling which was very appreciated and a nice touch. The starters were uniformly excellent: salads for two of us and pasta for the other two. The mains were generous in size and mine way cod was excellent although there were too many potato’s for me. The greens were difficult to eat being stuck together but seemed OK on the other entree. For dessert two of us shared a chocolate that seemed completely unlike the menu description. The other two had a scoop each of ice cream which they each declared delicious.

My complaint and the reason for 4* had to do with uncomfortable chairs on top of an uneven floor. The noise level increased as the night went on making shouting necessary to have a conversation.

I went out on a date at Fork, and it could not have gone any better. The food was excellent. Our servers were very attentive, and informative. It is a very intimate atmosphere (which I prefer). The noise level can get up there when the place gets crowded, but not unbearable. All in all, I had a wonderful experience, would recommend this place, and will certainly be returning myself.

What a true disappointment experienced. I was truly looking forward to celebrating my wife’s birthday at Fork. However the entire experience left me entirely underwhelmed and feeling ripped off. From the start it all went wrong. The host first sat us in an empty dark area of the restaurant. Upon protest by my wife we were moved to another spot which wasn’t that much better considering it was right next to the wall. Ignoring the wall and the unfriendly host, I was still hopeful dinner would make up for the tough start. However, I was wrong. The waiter was on the borderline of a douchebag. After placing our order for starters I asked for a little time to let us decide on a pasta and entree. The waiter told me its against Forks policy and he needed my entire order. He then told us he’d give us a few minutes to decide. This annoyed me. And because I felt like he was rushing us out we decided not to order entrees and instead we’d order just pasta dishes along with starters. Finally the borderline douchebag came back to take our full order. We ordered the shrimp carpaccio, and a tuna dish for starters. Then for our pasta dish we ordered fettuccini in a lemon sauce with crab. Well, the shrimp carpaccio sucked. Tasted like a thin layer of mayonnaise on a plate over a couple orange peppers. We are still looking for the shrimp. The tuna had salt and pepper on it. Didn’t taste like something that I couldn’t prepare. The worst of all was the fettuccini dish. Every bite made me hesitant to take another bite. The flavors entirely clashed and the dish was entirely disappointing. The taste of this meal was so gross I’m almost thinking they used too much of one ingredient or maybe some ingredient was spoiled. Also there were five or six tiny pieces of crab on a dish that cost 28 dollars. I really wanted to enjoy this place. Maybe I would have given 3 stars had just the staff sucked and the food was good or vice versa. Unfortunately the entire experience sucked.

Went for Easter brunch because I heard good things.
For starters we were placed in a corner table when the place was nearly empty. We Did not receive the extra chef complimentary dessert that every other table was served in front of us....over and over.
Mimosas were a sad mouthful of liquid for 10$ each they barely filled the bottom 4th of the glass they were served in.
The place was quiet for a holiday yet our waitress was all over the place and not very attentive.
Having been the only place we ate that day I’m pretty sure my husbands upset stomach came from there later that evening.
Over priced for the options offered through the prix fix menu - in philly there are tons of better options available.

We started with two of their excellent specialty cocktails. I opted for the sweetbread and sepia starter, and my husband had the shrimp carpaccio. The contrast of textures on my plate was amazing, and it was delicious. My husband used some of their charred sourdough bread to mop up every last bit of the carpaccio sauce. For a main course, I opted for a small portion of the potato gnocchi, and hubby had a full portion of the lemon pepper fettuccine with crab. Both excellent, and once again, amazing texture and flavor contrasts. I tried chocolate rooibos ice cream for dessert, and he went with the cheesecake panacotta, both great. My only criticism is that the music was too lively and too loud for what I think is a pretty romantic atmosphere.
