Great atmosphere, food was amazing, and staff was incredible. We had a large group and everyone enjoyed the whole experience.

Very Disappointed. Menus were given to us with several sheets of paper. All falling apart. Waitress brought out our drinks two seperate times and forgot my glass of wine twice. I had to finally ask for it. Tried to order the beet salad to accompany our dinner and waitress said we could not get that salad because it was only on the Valentine's menu. Which was offered the night we were dining. She also said that the chef would make no exceptions. Also, four of us in our group all order the Beef Wellington. None of the four meals came out the way we ordered them. Two were suppose to be Medium Rare and two were suppose to be Medium Well. All of them came out Well Done. The puff pastry was burnt also. One person ordered the Seafood Fettuccine and it contained serveral pieces of shells in the pasta from the shrimp. Way over priced for the quality and portion of food that was served.

We were sat on the third floor, where it was very quiet and allowed us the ability to talk among ourselves and enjoy the ambiance. While sitting waiting for our food other couples were commenting on the history of the third floor and the stories heard about ghosts, which was entertaining whether you believe or not. The service was great and the food was delicious. My wife and i enjoyed our experience.

The restaurant was pretty good. We were greeted right away and taken to our table. The waiter and greeter were very friendly. The waiter did get a little pushy at the end of the dinner for dessert to make up for the overly salty walleye I had. The menu selection isn’t large so you are limited. In my opinion, it’s much overpriced for what you get. We got the candied shrimp; rip off. 3 pieces of jumbo shrimp for $17, HA! The portion of our meals were good but definitely overpriced. The walleye was over salted, I had to drink plenty of water. My wife’s fettuccine with scallops was decent, but she kept getting chunks of spices stuck to the roof of her mouth and having to spit out pepper shells and other spices.. the food was hot which was good otherwise I would not have eaten it. Wouldn’t be interested in coming back, there are many restaurants with better quality and creativity in the food for half the price.

Went for Valentines Day, exceptional pre fixed menu, every course was melt in your mouth wonderful. Wine list excellent. Atmosphere the best, and did we mention it is a haunted Victorian mansion, so wonderful. Always a great evening

Service has room for improvement. At these prices we expected much better. Our server was very rushed, brash, and honestly did the bare minimum. If the food wasn’t so stellar, I doubt we’d ever go back. The food was that amazing that we’re going to overlook the poor service.
Haven’t been to Forepaugh’s for years, but took out of town friends there recently. The “haunted house” sells itself, warm and so charming. The food was unbelievably good and a great wine list. The serving staff were very attentive to our needs and John the maitre d’ made our evening so special! We’ll definitely be back.

I love the place and the food. It was very tasty. I had the beets salad, delicious! My husband had the mussels, he really liked them! For the main course, We had the scallops and the Ribeye. The scallops were big but they had nothing special, if they put more lemon or some kind of herb, it would have been better. The steak was great! perfectly cooked and a good portion. It came with delicious mushrooms and potatoes but there was too little of each. So Food tasted great in general but the veggies on the side were just not enough!! OH and the desert, the banana one, was fantastic, not too rich, but little small!

This was my first visit to Forepaugh's, a St. Paul institution in business since 1976. I took my wife there for a special dinner. The venue itself is very classy, a 3-story Victorian originally built in 1870, and meticulously maintained. Unfortunately we were underwhelmed with our experience. My wife said it was a place that "is trying to be fancy, instead of being fancy". The dinner started well enough, but the service was slow, there were bits of cork in my glass of wine, the waitress served my meal to my wife. Above all, the AC kept kicking on during the meal and blowing in my wife's face. Normally this wouldn't be an issue but it was about 5 degrees outside, being the middle of January. For the price, I would expect better and for that reason, for the value there are other, better options in town.
This converted mansion into a restaurant is unique. The food was excellent. I have had better foie gras I'd try one of their other appetizers that looked amazing as they passed our table and sounded tasty on the menu

I really enjoyed this restaurant. It is set in a. Beautiful hisortic Victorian house. The beef Wellington was superb. My husband spoke highly of the scallops. It is a bit pricey but worth it for a special occasion. The entry way and hostess / coat check area is a bit crowded in a narrow hallway. Overall a fantastic evening out. Recommend it !!
We were engaged at Forepaughs, 36 years ago now, and the fact that it still exists as a restaurant is a testament to something enduring.
I scarcely remember the meal we had 36 years ago, but I do remember eating there periodically over the years. They have always been on the high priced side but the food was worth it, and back in the day there weren't that many restaurants on the cutting edge.
Previous to this meal, it had been a good 5 or more years since we ate there last, but that meal had left a lasting impression, one of the best meals that I have ever eaten in my life, at any time, anywhere. That is not a small statement after six decades on the planet and trips to London, Paris and New York. I waxed enthusiastic to my foodie friends about the place whenever fine dining came up.
This time, however, their menu has been pared down extensively. In fact, I would not be far afield to say it is a steak and seafood restaurant now. There was nothing thrilling on the menu whatsoever. What we ended up having was steak, which was fine, very good even, but something you can get the same or better at a dozen local restaurants. The side dishes, besides being crazy expensive, were marginal. My wife's asparagus with truffle oil tasted nice, but not great, and my brussels sprouts were totally unexceptional, just this side of a plate of boiled sprouts. The desserts were standard, and we chose the cheesecake and the flourless chocolate torte. The former was grainy, the later was possibly the best thing on the menu.
The bottom line is I can no longer in good consciousness recommend Forepaughs to my foodie friends, and I hope they forget that I once recommended it, or at least that they understand that the place has changed in many ways over the years.
Possibly the best service I've received at a dining establishment -- from having a pre-reservation drink in the first floor bar to the end of dinner. Wonderful staff. The scallops were also delicious. Bravo!

Ambiance was great but the food was overpriced for the quality. I make a better 6 oz filet at home..and don’t spend $40.00. That being said we enjoyed a drink at the bar before and the food was good..just not great. We were a little disappointed the waitress brought all of our drinks late and forgot the appetizer. I ended up with my red wine (ordered before my steak arrived) when the forgotten appetizers were served just before desert.
Disappointing. The quality of the food did not match the price paid.
