Number one: You can't beat the ambiance of this restaurant - Forepaughs . . . It is the best in the Twin Cities. Let's list the benefits: (a) ample parking a mere few steps from the restaurant in a well-illuminated lot or, for a low price, valet your vehicle. (b) You are greeted by one of the warmest, kind man in any restaurant - John. He makes you feel at home. Mimi adds exceptional warmth and reception and makes absolutely sure you are happy with your seating selection. They are both wonderful hosts! (c) They make wonderful cocktails and have a vast selection of fine wines and everyone is well versed with just the right complement of wine to food selection. (d) The food is outstanding and the selections are wide and reasonably priced. (e) The service is unmatched to any restaurant in the Twin Cities - ten out ten stars for their performance.
(f) Lastly, the coffee, after dinner drinks and desserts are delicious. Forepaughs is my favorite restaurant in . . . well, anywhere!

The food was great. The beef Wellington was a nice rendition of a classic. My wife had the duck breast. Both dishes were very good. For desert we had the flourless chocolate cake and the creme brûlée. They were a great end to the meal. The atmosphere was very enjoyable and quiet enough to allow for plenty of pleasant conversation. We will definitely go back.

We had outstanding service at Forepaugh's. We were heading to the Ordway afterwards, and our server immediately remarked that she knew that when she greeted us. It made us feel very comfortable that we would have plenty of time. The food was delicious, and the surroundings were charming. Loved it!

Very mediocre food for the price and reputation of the Restuarant. Louder than remembered. Service was no better than average. Host was excellent. We had beef Wellington. Their “signature” dish.

Forepaugh's is a classy restaurant with exceptional food. It's a bit pricey, but well worth it. It's housed in a former mansion, is my guess, one with smaller rooms for an intimate atmosphere, especially on the upper floors. Beef Wellington is their signature offering and is out of this world in flavor and tenderness. I tried the Walleye dinner, served in a curry/mushroom sauce which was simply fantastic! The wait staff and maitre d, John, are super friendly, welcoming and efficient.

Wow. I have never been greeted with a handshake and warm welcome EVER at any dining establishment until I had dinner here. That's how I was welcomed, the Maitre D' even told us about some of the history of the mansion after he seated us. The mansion is amazing and I loved all the separate areas to dine. We had a very attentive server that wanted our experience to be perfect. The food was also was amazing. My date had the Miso Bass and I had the filet we split the BLT salad and a side of Brussel spouts. Everything was cooked perfect, tasted fantastic and we cleaned our plates. We had signature cocktails and wine which were also fantastic. I live near San Francisco and we are known for food. But hands down I have not ever had a better dining experience anywhere. I am just sad that I live so far away. Great far a special romantic occasion.

We we're greated by the manager on duty right away after entering the establishment. WOW, the service was incredible, the ambiance is like nothing you can get anywhere else. I don't believe in ghosts but I got a creepy vibe on the top floor and then when they told me it was haunted I about had a minor heart attack. The Beef Wellington was incredible. Would highly recommend taking a tour of the place, after seeing the wine room private dining area, we're DEFINITELY going to reserve that for if important clients are in town.

This restaurant is beautiful. The host and hostess were terrific. But table Service was poor — waiting 15 minutes to get the final check is unforgivable, as is not being asked for coffee or after dinner drink, and having to finally leave because the promised birthday cake just never arrived. We really were kind of ignored. Overall, the food was pedestrian at best. It was as if dishes were attempted to be special, but never quite made it..disappointing. Have enjoyed this restaurant in the past...what happened in the kitchen? We may try again, but will not rush back..

We were a group of 11 celebrating two birthdays. I have only heard one negative comment and that is that the pasta dish was not as expected and not tasty enough to order again. Otherwise, everything met/exceeded our expectations. We had a good time.

I love this place. It is quiet, romantic, the food is superb though a little expensive. I did not care for the fact that you had to pay extra for sides. At that price sides should be included. But I did love the charm and ambiance. The host was amazingly friendly and courteous.

I was super excited about a “ghost stories dinner” that was happening on my actual birthday. I booked through here and got a call to tell me I had booked the wrong time for the special dinner, so I confirmed my intent and told them to change the time. I was super excited for a unique ghost night. I had been researching it for ages.

Sadly, on the night, the confirmation was lost. We were hastily pushed into a side room with a projector and chairs, while the ghost presenters tried their best, we were mostly left to watch their backs and hear muffled stories. Drinks came out late. The food was generally unimpressive. The staff tried their best, but for a $60 per person ticket and a special occasion, it was a huge letdown, and it was overall a highly disappointing birthday :(

Very Disappointed. Menus were given to us with several sheets of paper. All falling apart. Waitress brought out our drinks two seperate times and forgot my glass of wine twice. I had to finally ask for it. Tried to order the beet salad to accompany our dinner and waitress said we could not get that salad because it was only on the Valentine's menu. Which was offered the night we were dining. She also said that the chef would make no exceptions. Also, four of us in our group all order the Beef Wellington. None of the four meals came out the way we ordered them. Two were suppose to be Medium Rare and two were suppose to be Medium Well. All of them came out Well Done. The puff pastry was burnt also. One person ordered the Seafood Fettuccine and it contained serveral pieces of shells in the pasta from the shrimp. Way over priced for the quality and portion of food that was served.

We were sat on the third floor, where it was very quiet and allowed us the ability to talk among ourselves and enjoy the ambiance. While sitting waiting for our food other couples were commenting on the history of the third floor and the stories heard about ghosts, which was entertaining whether you believe or not. The service was great and the food was delicious. My wife and i enjoyed our experience.

The restaurant was pretty good. We were greeted right away and taken to our table. The waiter and greeter were very friendly. The waiter did get a little pushy at the end of the dinner for dessert to make up for the overly salty walleye I had. The menu selection isn’t large so you are limited. In my opinion, it’s much overpriced for what you get. We got the candied shrimp; rip off. 3 pieces of jumbo shrimp for $17, HA! The portion of our meals were good but definitely overpriced. The walleye was over salted, I had to drink plenty of water. My wife’s fettuccine with scallops was decent, but she kept getting chunks of spices stuck to the roof of her mouth and having to spit out pepper shells and other spices.. the food was hot which was good otherwise I would not have eaten it. Wouldn’t be interested in coming back, there are many restaurants with better quality and creativity in the food for half the price.

Haven’t been to Forepaugh’s for years, but took out of town friends there recently. The “haunted house” sells itself, warm and so charming. The food was unbelievably good and a great wine list. The serving staff were very attentive to our needs and John the maitre d’ made our evening so special! We’ll definitely be back.
