This place is great! F
Great food flavoring, one of the places with great beef Wellington. Their foie gras was spot on. And thanks for making our 1st wedding anniversary memorable.

Ambiance was great but the food was overpriced for the quality. I make a better 6 oz filet at home..and don’t spend $40.00. That being said we enjoyed a drink at the bar before and the food was good..just not great. We were a little disappointed the waitress brought all of our drinks late and forgot the appetizer. I ended up with my red wine (ordered before my steak arrived) when the forgotten appetizers were served just before desert.

We enjoyed our special birthday dinner celebration. It was very quiet that evening. Our server was attentive, which is always a huge plus. It’s a bit expensive. So, not a place that I would go very often. However, for special occasions- it’s perfect.

We were disappointed several years ago with the New Year's Eve offering. We decided to try it again this year. The fixed price/fixed menu was a surprise only 2 days before. We agreed to it in any case. We enjoyed the food and the service. The price in our minds was about $20-30 per person too high for the value of the food. We would try it again however and regular menu items look to be a better value. The atmosphere was excellent and the service attentive without being intrusive.

We enjoyed the ambience and quiet New Year's Eve dining experience. The six course fixed menu at $99 was expensive for what you got. The entree of steak and lobster with the lobster being a very small portion. The additional charge for the wine pairing at $49 was too expensive and the pours were small.

We booked at nice dinner at the restaurant and had a reservation for 7:15 pm. We were seated about 15 minutes later in a nice area of the restaurant. The service was very good. We started dinner with a date appetizer, followed this with a BLT salad, the main courses consisting of scallops for my wife and a filet for me. The filet was accompanied by a potato dish and my wife's scallops by some vegetables. The scallops were very good, but not the best we have had and my filet was excellent. Th potatoes however could have been cooked longer. Both the appetizer and salad were very good although the dressing on the salad could have been lighter. We ended dinner with two excellent deserts (one was a chocolate cake and the other a redition of banana pie. Overall, an interesting place for a nice dinner.

Everything was fine except the Open Table reservation. Forpaughs did not have any record of it, several other people were having the same problem. You need to do better Open Table.

Forepaughs is a very quaint restaurant , with much character thrown in. Dinner in a room of this 1800s mansion was an experience in itself. Only hesitation I would have in recommending to others is the portion. My word, is it small. I am a very thin woman with a reasonably light appetite but after appetizers, soup, salad, all of it being a la carte, then the meal, I still needed to snack when I returned home. Go for happy hour during the Christmas season. Stick to tried and true for meals!

Great experience! Staff friendly and inviting. The staff felt it took too long to get us sat (maybe 5-10 minutes) so they offered me and my girlfriends a free round of drinks! The environment was Christmassy and pretty. The staff thought it took too long to get our food (we didn't notice as we were talking and dining on the warm bread and butter) so they offered the whole group each a complimentary dessert! Great night and treat customers right!

We had such high hopes. It wasn’t good food. My duck was over salted. My husbands steak tasted frozen and was under salted. The wait staff was confused. When we asked for recommendations, the server just read us the menu.
I also don’t understand why a Victorian restaurant has curry potatoes and Thai peanut soup.
Such a disappointment.

We visited Forepaugh's to celebrate a friend's milestone birthday, and had a wonderful experience. We were greeted warmly when we arrived and were made to feel welcome and valued the entire evening. Our server was superb and she mentioned that many of the staff have been working at Forepaugh's for years, always a great sign. The food was excellent, and we'll definitely be going back.

I went here with my girlfriend to celebrate her birthday. It had been decades since I had been here and she had never been. All the people working here were wonderful, from coat check to servers. Our server made plenty of recommendations and explained the different menu options to us with patience and a smile. We wound up eating Chorizo Stuffed Dates, Salads (House and BLT), Beef Wellington, Pan Seared Walleye w/ coconut curry sauce, with a side of Brussel sprouts. Everything was wonderful and they brought a small desert up to our table for her birthday as a surprise. This is a wonderfully romantic little place so if you have a special occasion, plan to spend at least two hours here and enjoy the experience!

 (Kansas City)·Dined on November 18, 2017

Totally disappointing. Ambiance felt like a vacant house that hasn't been cleaned in months. It was a Friday evening and the restaurant was empty; we waited more than 5 minutes for anyway to greet us, it took 10 minutes to be asked what we want to drink, another 10 minutes to bring bread. Their claimed 'Signature Entree' is Beef Wellington but it was just a filet with an old pastry put on top of it after it was cooked. True Beef Wellington is a filet wrapped within a puff pastry then baked. Their menu states that Walleye is "in constant competition with our Beef Wellington for the best-selling composed plate", which was just as disappointing as it was fried and was not high quality properly processed fish, i.e. it smelled like fish. When we left (before 9:00 PM) there was no one to give us our coats, the host was gone, we had to get them ourselves. We asked the valet if we could see their wine cellar but bartender said we had to wait until finished cleaning the bar. To make matters worse, the prices are ridiculous. The only thing that could make this any better is refund our money.

It has been quite a few years since I have been to the lovely Victorian mansion. It is much better than I remember. I had the Beef Wellington which you rarely see on a menu. It was peefect. The meat was medium-rare, as ordered, and the puff pastry was crispy golden. My boyfriend had the Amish chicken which was tender and juicy. The service was attentive but not intrusive. The restaurant is very intimate for a romantic date. I would be confident booking Forepaugh's for a special evening or private event.

Just splendid :) The seared tuna app was small, but the sauce and pickled mangos that came with it packed huge punch. The foie gras was delicate and seared to perfection, though for me the lentils and rye bread with it overwhelmed the flavor a bit. The beef Wellington was deconstructed, but still classic in taste and cooked to an exacting medium rare, and the white truffle asparagus side suggested by our server was hot, fresh, and savory. Because portion sizes are small (but prices are not, yikes) we actually ate all that and still had room for the passion fruit creme brûlée, which was excellent. Wine list is extensive, and our server made great recommendations for each course. Bring your wallet, and try some new things (or old favorites)!

We made our visit here based on a friend's recommendation for a birthday, and it was a very neat experience! The food, overall, was quite good and beautifully presented. The only exception was the ahi tuna first course; a tough/rubbery version of what typically is a melt-in-your mouth appetizer, that really wasn't enough to share with anyone, unlike our foie gras--delectable! Our server was very sweet and informative about the mansion great haunted stories from it's history. The deconstructed banana cream pie was the hit of the night for me, the bday girl.

Beautiful restaurant, delightful atmosphere. Our server was great, brought us some sparkling pear juice to toast our anniversary since we do not drink wine/alcohol. The rolls were warm and delicious, I ordered the Beef Wellington and my husband ordered the ribeye, as well as a side of asparagus and the desconstructed banana cream pie. Everything was perfectly cooked, and the dessert was unique and delicious. Definitely a perfect place to celebrate our special night.
