Foreign Cinema in the Mission is a San Francisco classic for brunch, and dinner is solid too.
Tasty dishes. Creative. Smallish portions
Scallop dish was wonderful. Appetizers tiny.
25 wedding anniversary
Foreign cinemas atmosphere was incredible. The food was very good but a little pricey for the amount of food we got for the price. I would definitely recommend for a special occasion.
Another great meal at Foreign Cinema. Everything was great. No complaints.
I can always count on Foreign Cinema for a great fine-dining experience. The food is always tasty and imaginative without being weird. Same with the house cocktails. I’m partial to seafood. This works out great for me since the seafood selections are plentiful.
We came with a reservation and they didn’t have our table ready. We had a drink at the bar and waited and then when they finally sat us it was in a weird side room with no atmosphere.
The service was poor at best and by the time they say us they were out of the main thing we wanted. The food was mediocre at best.
I would not recommend
Our server was just as lovely as the food and the ambiance. It was a great evening!
The food was very good but I found the service to be a little slow. Great vibe though.
The house specialty chicken was "the best" as was the poke appetizer. When It came to dessert I chose the profiteroles and thoroughly enjoyed it as the conclusion of an excellent meal.
Easily one of the worst dining experiences of our lives. The service was awful, the room was awful, the food was flat out gross and it was hilariously expensive. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO ANYWHERE ELSE.
We were most disappointed! This was our wedding anniversary and I was anticipating a much better meal. We ate early as the reservations were full. The restaurant was full - good sign!
Our starter ( we shared) was the tuna poke - fresh but overly salty. Our entrees - my husband had the pieces of fish in a pesto sauce. The size was small - like a starter and unmemorable. I had the pork chop - very large portion but so salty again. The best thing was the apple in a crust dessert which we shared. I had heart burn that evening. I heard such good things about the place - not interested in returning.
Was really disappointed that the website wasn't more explicit about the movie not starting until after 8pm. We had an earlier reservation and weren't about to wait several hours for the movie, which was the entire reason we went. It's also not explained that there are 3 seating areas - a main dining room, outside area (tented) and a modern art (very sterile) room. The movie is actually only shown outside, so if you're in either of the dining rooms you won't even see it. The idea is neat, but execution was lacking.
The lavender pork chop was pretty much the best thing I've ever eaten. Also, the service was beyond amazing. Our waiter was just the right amount of attentive, and she was so engaging. I will definitely be back!
Patio dining created such a cozy feel! Thankful to the hostess who ensured we had a table outside. Recommend reservations. Service was stellar- water refilled, bread replenished and attentive service completed our date night at Foreign Cinema! Don’t expect to be able to watch the movie as it’s intended for ambiance and there’s a lot of groups and conversation.
Lovely birthday dinner. Delicious food and fine service the 4 too next to us was RIDICULOUSLY loud. Enough to put me off my good mood
Worst service ever. I would never recommend this restaurant despite the great ambience and good food.
The food was soooooo good! Tables were very close together and it was super loud but overall a great evening. Will be back!
Food was good, but place was very noisy so we weren't enjoy movie at all.
Servers were friendly but not very attentive. Great atmosphere of the whole restaurant. The calamari was grilled and served with some citrus which was lovely, and the fried chicken—though an unexpected choice at Foreign Cinema—was some of the best I’ve eaten in the city. Disappointed over our seating as I had requested (and was told they would accommodate) for patio seating but when I arrived for my reservation they didn’t have any available. Overall good experience though
I finally made it here after living in SF for years. The staff, wine list and menu selections were delivered with world class service. Thanks Foreign Cinema!
Great!!! Food and place was amazing
Sunday birthday brunch: Amazing bloodys/bloodies, great kids’ menu, nice selection of breakfast items and lunch items, attentive service, and even a cute little granita dessert with a candle for the birthday boy. A wonderful experience.
Amazing all around.
No movie screen in sight, which was disappointing but the food was fabulous
Found the menu limited and dishes unimpressive,
Once again Foreign Cinema provided an amazing lunch with impeccable service. The waitress noticed a birthday present on the table and presented our birthday friend with a free desert and candle at the end of the meal. It's a rarity to have such reliable service and food for such a long time here in San Francisco.
The vibe and service was perfect for a long overdue date night. Thanks!
Gorgeous food, friendly staff, great ambiance. Perfect place to celebrate my 50th BDay! Just perfect!
Good atmosphere, service so,so.. food ok nothing better than that, booze & location were cracking..
The food was “okay”, service was incredibly slow. Need to have a few more mainstream menu items. Building was beautiful. Can only see movie it seated outside.
Service was very uneven (our appetizers were served on top of our menus since the waitress had not come back to take our main course order), waitress with no personality, bottle of wine took FOREVER to arrive to the table (we were already eating our appetizers). The food was good, but the appetizers were really overpriced for the quantity. Overall an average experience.
It was our first dining experience at Foreign Cinema - what can we say? The food was amazing! I had the grilled California swordfish and my I husband had the Catalonian Fideus - both tasted very fresh and just DELICIOUS! The service was very attentive without being too solicitous. This is our new go to restaurant - book early to get your preferred seating. It’s not surprising that Foreign Cinema has been around awhile.
I had a wonderful time at foreign cinema! The atmosphere was casual and comfortable, and perfect for a date! Food was delicious and our server was very sweet and attentive!
Our server was amazing. The food was good, but I really felt like the quantity was lacking. Even for a brunch place.
Saturday evening: they ran out of a dish at 9.30pm and since I don’t eat that much meat, there were not many other options for me and I had to choose the only other fish dish available. Waiter was not that friendly. The ambience is super nice and the other dishes looked nice, but they should improve the offer and the customer service.
Service was okay. Cocktails were good! Food also good
Took my wife and kids here for a special birthday! The food, ambience, and service was all excellent. We had a wonderful experience and it continues to be one of our go too's for s special evening!
Amazing service, amazing food
