Foreign Cinema Ratings and Reviews
We came here to celebrate our anniversary and it was perfect! The movie is kind of playing more in the background but it was still so fun! The food was absolutely amazing and our server was so sweet and funny! 10/10 would recommend and we can't wait to come back!
It was like a dream. Last time I was at FC for brunch, the waiter took FOREVER, so I was prepared for a slow service. But our guy was incredible-knew when to ask questions & when to leave us alone. We both had a truffle omelet and it was to die for. Altogether, it could have taken an hour, so I was very pleased with the experience.
They changed our 8 o’clock res to a 7:30 without contacting us first. Not a huge deal, but weird. Then, we were escorted upstairs to an odd banquet looking room that had a bunch of tables crammed over to one side overlooking a balcony. I assume this was to try and make it feel less like you were eating in the quarantine section of the restaurant, but it really disappointed us. We were so excited to try foreign cinema, but felt kind of like an afterthought while we were there. The food and the service were great, but the atmosphere really sucked upstairs.
I was very excited to bring my friend here for her birthday but I experienced the worst customer service. The host was very attentive but our waiter was horrible. We asked for suggestions in terms of what to choose since it was our first time at this restaurant but he paused for the longest time which made it very awkward. We ended up saying can we have a few more minutes. I told the waiter that it was my friends birthday and he said if I ordered a dessert he can put a candle in it. I purposely ordered an item from the dessert menu even though we were full so that she can have that birthday feel. When the dessert came I was so disappointed because there was no candle. I went to ask the waiter and he said oh I forgot but I can’t do anything about it now. When we got our bill, a cup of ice with a candle came from another waitress. At that point it was just embarrassing because you would think that at least another dessert would come out. But literally a candle in ice came out. Due to the customer service I would not be returning to this restaurant.
Atmosphere: nice, but not a kid-friendly place. Menu: small and confusing. Shellfish: wasn’t all fresh, clams were tiny, however, cocktail sauce and garlic butter cream sauce were delicious. Fish: hamachi sashimi dish and the smoked salmon dish were both too sour. Meat: dry aged NY steak was overcooked for a med/well thus tasted more dry and bitter. Five spices duck breast dish and lamb chops dish were both good, but nothing spectacular. Drink: season cocktail (forgot name) tasted very bland. Service: waiter wasn’t attentive and appeared tired. Overall: a unique place, but not worth the price if you’re here for the taste. We didn’t complain because we don’t want ro spoil our night.
The waiter is the worst.
Even though I said I was full, he forced me to order the most expensive steak.
He cheated me.
He said Welcome drinks is FREE, but the bill says it was $ 15. I asked him what it was.
Then he corrected the receipt without saying that he was sorry. He knew it, but he was cheating.
Not all waiters are so sure, but I recommend you check the receipts.
Please check the receipt because the receipt is written on the other item.
Good restaurant and other employees are excellent.
I was so delighted that I brought my family here. I ate some of the best food I’ve had in years in San Francisco. My daughter and her fiancé also enjoyed their dishes as well. I will definitely be coming back the next time I’m in town. Don’t take the pate off the menu!
The food was great!! I chose this spot because my husband and I love good movies and good food. I didn’t know you had to request to sit outside if you wanted to watch the movie, you need to sit outside. There were plenty of heaters so it seemed it would be comfortable. But, overall it was amazing!!
Hi we went to foreign cinema with high expectations for our 3 yr anniversary. I was expecting more from the food especially since we spent close to $200. The worst part was that my wife and I had an upset tummy once arriving at home. I had it particularly bad and was extremely uncomfortable and bloated to the point where I couldn’t even sit up straight. Not sure what it was but it was definitely something we consumed at dinner.
This is probably the 8th-ish time we've dined here over the last couple of years and it was by far the best experience -- the service was stellar, though the food seemed a bit off from previous visits. The mediterranean plate was OK, and tiny -- not befitting the price. And the duck was less flavorful than in past visits. But we had such a good time that we will definitely be back.
My first time at Foreign Cinema was great. I only found this place from searching on Yelp with good reviews and decided to check it out. There were no available tables for dinners when I tried to reserve on OpenTable so I decided to go for lunch. We were seated fairly quickly and a server came by with a welcome. The food was great and the ambiance added to the great experience. We had two fried eggs and a champagne omelette. We enjoyed the bright afternoon light and the high ceiling. The coffee wasn't too great though. I would try to return on a evening date another time.
