Foreign Cinema Ratings and Reviews
The place is very nice, very beautiful. We went for Valentines and we knew it would be a fixed price menu. The food was OK, not compatible with the price though. I was charged the same as a two Michelin in SF does. It didn’t ruin my night, but I will be more careful next time.
For an almost $500 meal I would have expected better. Our raw oysters took almost an hour to be delivered, our waiter never checked in on our entrees, so salt and pepper were not an option and the red velvet cake was inedible, gummy, heavy...I think the cake was made with beets? It was a very disappointing ending for what we were looking forward to
Very delightful evening during valentines. Set menu with a fantastic variety to choose from. The food was a little above average for the value. They definitely skimped on the wine, they pour around 3oz, which generally is the amount you would have when you go wine tasting. The ambiance was perfect, my date complimented on how romantic everything was.
Definitely did not enjoy how they were going to cancel my reservation bc I was going to be late due to an accident on the freeway! Luckily I figured everyone was affected and I got in.
Excellent cuisine and attentive, friendly service. Menu choices are creative and unusual, and everything was perfectly prepared. Seafood choices especially delicious. Menu changes daily, so don't expect to find a favorite choice there when you come back. We ate in the main dining room. Another room features movies as you dine. There appear to be several other rooms as well. Wine choices not local, mostly European with a mediocre Oregon wine in the whites. Food is likely sourced locally. The prices are understandably high, because you are getting a gourmet meal. The desserts are wonderful.
Foreign Cinema is one of my favorite restaurants. I have hosted 4 work events there and a friends brunch and 2 friend dinners. I would highly recommend for any occasion and the lighting is perfect for a date. The food is phenomenal and the service is also great. A must for anyone visiting San Francisco and for locals.
We came from Orange county to celebrate my son's birthday, we had reservations at 7 pm, we were 15 min early but we got seated right away inside the restaurant, not the patio with the screen, which was fine.
We got greeted, professionally but not very personable, like we are used to in Orange County, they did not explain the menu so it took me a sec to realize 2/3 was appetizers.
The restaurant was full so the staff was very busy. we ordered the lemon chicken soup and the beef carpaccio, both very good. I had the scallops after which were too salty for me. My husband and son had the flank steak and pasta which were good but not special As the dessert we had pear tartine we loved. We had a good time just which the staff smiled a little more.
The menu had great options, and I found it hard to choose. We were three friends that shared three starters (advised by our waiter), that was really tasty. The swordfish I ended up with for main was well prepared and had interesting garnish. A little bummed that we did not get to watch the movie, as we were placed inside close to the kitchen and couldnt see the screen.
Love the restraint ambiance and off course the cinema screening just makes it 10x better. Overall, food and service came at a timely matter. We order to the duck breaths and pork chop. The duck was not what we expected but the pork chop was outstanding.
The ambiance was great. A very good place for a date night or anniversary. The food was excellent. I had Kobe steak with a glass of garnacha. The only thing I would suggest, is a higher volume on speakers by the table. I realize not every person wants to listen, but some people do. Other than that. It was a fantastic and romantic night for my wife and I.
Horrible service. We ordered a bottle of champagne and our server brought it to our table warm - so it had to be chilled before we could continue drinking it. Never once were we checked on or asked how our food was. They actually forgot my order (there was 4 of us and she only took down 3 entree's). I had to notify the busser since the server never came to our table. Then she has the chef quickly make my meal while all my friends were finished eating and had to wait for me. Will never come here again. Get better servers and maybe I will.
Both hostess and server had rude attitudes. Our server was demeaning when I asked a question about the menu, for what you pay there it would be nice to have a friendly helping server rather than an elitist rude one. If it weren't for my friends company this place would've been the worst and ruined my birthday experience.
Pop tarts to start! Awesome! The egg dishes at brunch are always heavenly. We had a party of six. Only downside was a table with sun beaming directly in our faces from glass ceiling and we had to wear sunglasses😎So crowded they couldn’t switch us to another seat. Oh well EVERYTHING else outweighed it.
Wonderful service and food. Would definitely recommend for anyone visiting the city- and to make a reservation as the line was quite long when we arrived. Only one thing- my glass of Cremant was served warm. A bummer as it was fairly pricy and the temperature didn’t do it justice. Overall a great experience though.
The food was great. And the wine list/cocktails were outstanding. The ambience is great along with the Laszlo bar. It is spendy though...over $200 for a three course meal for two with drinks. The wait staff were good, but our waitress forgot about us for periods of time throughout the evening in favor of bigger tables. Isn’t that so annoying when it happens? That said, I would go back and hope they work out the kinks in their service.
