The food was great!! I chose this spot because my husband and I love good movies and good food. I didn’t know you had to request to sit outside if you wanted to watch the movie, you need to sit outside. There were plenty of heaters so it seemed it would be comfortable. But, overall it was amazing!!

The hostess with long hair who walked us in was so sweet. However our server with long hair was really rude and made the experience not as great.

Love this place. Will be back! Food is outstanding, drinks and staff are superb, and do not skip the dessert! Ambiance is upscale but still inviting. Neighborhood is a little sketchy still, maybe don’t try to walk here

Hi we went to foreign cinema with high expectations for our 3 yr anniversary. I was expecting more from the food especially since we spent close to $200. The worst part was that my wife and I had an upset tummy once arriving at home. I had it particularly bad and was extremely uncomfortable and bloated to the point where I couldn’t even sit up straight. Not sure what it was but it was definitely something we consumed at dinner.

The food is good, the atmosphere is overall pleasant and fun but the noise level is high and service could be friendlier / more customer oriented (they are too busy and too popular for their own good).

This is probably the 8th-ish time we've dined here over the last couple of years and it was by far the best experience -- the service was stellar, though the food seemed a bit off from previous visits. The mediterranean plate was OK, and tiny -- not befitting the price. And the duck was less flavorful than in past visits. But we had such a good time that we will definitely be back.

My first time at Foreign Cinema was great. I only found this place from searching on Yelp with good reviews and decided to check it out. There were no available tables for dinners when I tried to reserve on OpenTable so I decided to go for lunch. We were seated fairly quickly and a server came by with a welcome. The food was great and the ambiance added to the great experience. We had two fried eggs and a champagne omelette. We enjoyed the bright afternoon light and the high ceiling. The coffee wasn't too great though. I would try to return on a evening date another time.

I’ve been here before and had a great experience but I guess they were having an off night. Dinner and dessert (even drinks) took forever!!! Like we were ready to go to sleep once it was all over after being there hours. My friend also saw a mouse which is gross and really disappointing for such a nice and not to mention expensive restaurant.

I've been dining at this restaurant for years. This was the worst experience I ever had. I checked in at 715 for 730 reservations and wasn't seated until 800. Once we were seated they sat me right under the blazing heater. I requested to turn it off or down, no one ever did. We didn't even stay for dinner because our experience was just horrid since we walked in.
Our waitress was awesome so all we did is pay for our drinks and tipped her out handsomely. I expected way more from here especially my previous visits have been great experiences. Too bad this one was not great because after being an advid customer I'm no longer eating here again. Thanks for the past 10 years!

Wonderful food, great service from Ricky ( that's what I heard...) What did we love? Pretty much everything -- from cocktails to "pop tarts" and from omelettes to pot de creme, I can't think of anything that didn't work. Prompt, enjoyable service and great sightseeing advice, too! A great experience!

The restaurant is interesting. I was looking for a different restaurant for a special occasion and it was however, it was so noisy, I couldnt talk to my husband who was sitting next to me without screaming. I could hear the entire conversation of our neighbor though. The tables are much too close to each other. The food was awful. The portions were very small which was not a problem because it tasted terrible. As if that isn’t bad enough, it was way overpriced. The only positive I have for this restaurant was the service. Our waitress was wonderful and the service overall was very good.

Something that really stood out for me was the service. Our waiter approached us at appropriate times, delivered our drinks and food timely and it was obvious that the staff is in constant communication because my food and my second drink order we delivered almost simultaneously.

The food was excellent but the service was less so. The servers made us feel like a burden. The bussers, on the other hand, were great. As people who have and do work in the service industry, it was a bit disappointing, as I have had amazing experiences there in the past. I will go back, but I will probably not take a large group again. Still love the place.

wonderful experience for over-due BDay celebration: our server was HAPPY & engaging. My brunch tostada was out of this world... Friends’ comments : champagne omelet : “best I’ve eaten in years” & French toast - “a boom shakalaka treat for the taste buds”.

We booked a table at Foreign Cinema 3 months ago as a special meal for the last night of our 3 week trip to the US. After reading lots of reviews were really looking forward to our meal, but unfortunately from the moment we arrived we were left feeling a bit disappointed.
When we first got there we went to the host desk where 2 woman were stood at their computers with another woman, who I assume to be the manager. 1 woman and the manager looked up and smiled to acknowledge us after a couple of minutes waiting and I assumed this was my key to say we had a reservation. Instead the manager gave us a filthy look and said could we wait (and basically shut up) until she was ready. Not really the welcome we expected.
She finally took us to our table and we were quite relieved when our waitress came over and seemed much more friendly. The manager on the other hand spent the evening walking around with a face like a bulldog chewing a wasp thinking she was far more superior to anyone else there.
As for the food and drink, we started with 2 cocktails which were tasty. The wine list was very expansive and coming from Switzerland we were surprised to see they had some of our local wines. The prices were $100+ for a bottle though so we opted for a more local wine instead.
My partner had the chanterelle veloute as a starter and I had the Pacific ahi sashimi. His was delicious, but mine was a bit bland, especially in comparison to the tuna we’d been eating in Hawaii. We both took duck as a main. Whilst cooked perfectly and very tasty, it was a bit cold and definitely more European portion size than what you’d expect in the US. We both left a bit hungry which isn’t great considering how much we paid for the meal.
The setting itself was charming but noisy so couldn’t hear any of the movie (we sat in the courtyard). The table next to us also turned the heater off so we were quite chilly. Overall a bit disappointing and we far prefered our meal at Catch the night before.

We had not been here for a long time, and it was our loss. We had a wonderful dinner, the food was really good and well done, all the flavors were tasted. The service was great, always there but no hovering, they walk by a lot which is a good way to be there but not noticed. The only down was the noise level. it was a Saturday and before Halloween and there was lots of excitement at the tables. the setting is not conducive to noise reduction. And although I had a bit of struggle to hear the server, conversation was OK. We both thought it was something unusual in SF. The portions were nice for the price. In other words not skimpy, although they were nicely presented and again the flavors all worked together

We were super excited to visit Foreign Cinema for what was expected to be a great SF dining experience. But everything from the get-go was slightly off, and it added up to a disappointing experience. Our table was wobbly, our cocktails arrived 15 minutes after ordering them, and one was served up instead of on the rocks as ordered. The floor next to us was dirty. Every time anything was delivered to our table, it was served non-chalantly. Plates and silverware were “dumped” onto the table as opposed to placed nicely. My cocktail was cleared before I was finished, and the server never asked if she could take it away. The food and service should have been much more polished for a meal at this price point. To top it all off, we ordered a pop tart for dessert, and it was no where close to hot. No one noticed or asked why we only took two bites of it. We wouldn’t return because we had a C- experience at an A price point.

We so appreciated the atmosphere and really enjoyed most of the dishes. We'll return the next time we are in SF and will certainly recommend to friends. I especially appreciated the hosts doing what they could to seat us outside per our earlier request. I could see that the indoor dining room was lovely, too. For food, the highlights were the main entrees - we all enjoyed the duck, the scallop, and the pork chop dish was the winner for the evening!!

My son and I went here because I enjoyed it so much the first time I came here from out of town. Food was fantastic as well as the service. Went for my wife's birthday while visiting SF. Liked the idea of seeing a movie while having dinner. But the movie is only playing in the background with no audio. Good for conversation but not for watching. The menu has quite a diverse selection with many international flavors. Wife had the pasta, I had the fried chicken (their signature dish). The wait staff was very knowledgeable about every aspect of the menu and wine selection. Service was prompt and the food excellent and generous portions. We would definitely recommend for a different dining experience.

The food was solid! Well crafted with care, delicious and beautiful. FC is one of my favorite restaurants and I eat here as much as I can. But the service was off, we felt. It was our anniversary (we had our reception in the gallery almost nine years ago). The hosts at the front desk were warm and welcoming, but the server was kinda the opposite. He was professional and probably knowledgeable, but not especially friendly, and didn’t seem particularly interested in whether we were enjoying ourselves. I’m not certain he ever smiled. Still, we’ll keep coming back!

Our server was rude and impatient to me when i asked simple questions about the menu items. When asking about the duck our server replied to me “sir, I already told you these are our house specialties” her tone and attitude was gruff and condescending. We had the first seating at 5:30p so it was difficult to understand the reason for her hostile attitude. After spending about $200 on this experience I expected better from our server. We will probably choose another restaurant the next time we visit the city.
