Via open table, I requested the waiter I had the first time I visited (Tomas), he was working, but we got a different waiter who was not very good. He rushed my husband, who is a slow eater due to a medical condition, brought courses before we were ready, and didn’t let him finish ordering his courses or let him explain how we wanted the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd courses brought out. It wasn’t confusing, the waiter was just in a rush for some reason. This was our 1 year anniversary dinner so we were not in a hurry.
I was really looking forward to dessert, but we were so disappointed with the food quality (bland salmon), service, noise level (music was loud and there was a table of 4 with 2 annoying women nearby so we couldn’t even hear each other talking), where our table was located (right where the servers would pick up food from the kitchen), etc. I had a great experience with friends during restaurant week, but unfortunately will not be returning after this 2nd experience.
Good Italian , good service.
Fantastic hidden gem for high end and creative Italian cuisine in Uptown. Tucked next to the Holiday Inn (but don't let that fool you!). Chef Luca hasn't lost any tricks since his previous ventures at Passion 8 and Luca's Italian Kitchen in Elizabeth. Have eaten there three times and everything for all has been top notch. Perfect for before any arts or sports event in Uptown.
The food is semi warm. Everything is careless. Not recommendable..
Chef Luca never disappoints! The Chocolate Risotto is beyond decadent. The perfect balance of a dessert that isn’t overly sweet. The food was equally spectacular- best lasagne I’ve ever had. Wonderfully light - not what one would normally say about lasagne. A must try!
The food was very disappointing. The salmon was not cooked properly and lacking flavor. The duck was also poorly cooked and too fatty. Will not be coming back.
Our particular server was not kind or personable. Definitely felt rushed. All other staff was very kind.
The food was only overshadowed by our service!! Exceptional service
Chef Luca has done it again! Another wonderful restaurant with his amazing Italian cuisine. And this one, Forchetta, is in the Holiday Inn uptown. Parking is free with a validation of your parking ticket from the parking garage right there (the Wake Forest U lot). The appetizers; Calamari, assorted olives and lobster pasta purses melted in our mouths! The burrata beet salad is fresh with a touch of sweetness. We each enjoyed our main courses of Osso Buco (veal), NY strip steaks and chicken. All were delish! And panna cotta for dessert! Fabulous! Stop by to see Chef Luca. He gives the service his personal touch!
Lovely music- reminded us of being in Italy- food was excellent and the fact you could hear it and not have to shout at your dinner companion was a welcome relief. Call and ask what parking deck to park in becuase we were ripped off at Hearst tower parking- $25 after the entrance gate was open!!!
Great service and delicious food
Overall i thought the environment was good. No one came to greet our table for a solid 5 minutes until we asked if someone was coming over. The server was very nice and knowledgeable but not the most attentive. At times we had to ask multiple times or other people for drink refills. This was restaurant week and i only saw 2-3 servers in the whole restaurant so they may have just been very busy but still the restaurant should staff accordingly. I thought the food was pretty good....nothing i felt i HAVE to go back for but interesting menu and and good presentation.
Angelo was an excellent server. He made excellent recommendations from the menu and checked on us just the right amount. Food was delicious! Will dine there again.
The calamari... probably the best I’ve ever had. Perfectly crispy, not greasy... the spicy/sweet sauce was amazing. I’d go back just for this.
My other courses were pretty bland unfortunately. I had the sea bass and wasn’t ridiculously pleased. And same for the tiramisu for dessert.
I’d give it another shot as the service was great and be appetizers were just that good.
The restaurant wasn’t great. The food was meh, and the service was poor. Needs a lot of work before I would go back.
I went to Forchetta with a friend at the start of Queen"s Feast and had such an amazing experience, I had to take the hubby back the following week for more. Chef Luca's Queen's Feast menu was full of so many good choices that I couldn't stop thinking about the item's that I wasn't able to try. On my first visit, I had the sea bass so this week I decided to change it up and switch from sea to land with the Veal Osso Bucco with baby carrots. Great choice! The veal literally melted in my mouth. My husband ordered the Agnello which are grilled lamb chops with broccoli rabe and a sun dried tomato demi-glaze. He was extremely pleased as was my 20 year old eating machine son waiting at home for the proverbial "doggy bag". Chef Luca definitely gives you your money's worth and more. We ended the night with the delicious Tiramisu and walked out the door discussing what we would try on our next visit. If you haven't tried Forchetta yet, I suggest getting in now because once the lazy hazy days of summer are over and Charlotte vacation season commences, it won't be so easy.
Loved our dinner. So many good choice and all looked delicious. Wines by the glass list could be improved with more Italian wines by the glass
Amazing service, food ambiance and value for the amount of food.
We had the octopus, lamb chops , gnocchi and duck. All were exceptional. Luca the chef knows what he is doing and comes over to personally greet you which is always a nice touch!! Makes you feel like family!!
Would definitely return!!
Best menu of all of Quenns's feast!
Must try it!
This is a new Italian restaurant in Uptown CLT. The only issue we had was they have Italian wines by the bottle, but no Italian wines by the glass. The wine by the glass does not fit the restaurant, it is very shallow with a lot of low quality american whites & reds.
Was looking forward to our meal but was very disappointed in the wine list, the quality of the food and the service.
DonnaG, Thank you for sharing your feedback and we apologize for your disappointment in the wine list. We have added many upscale Italian wines to our menu and also we do offer a corkage fee should you wish to bring in your favorite bottle in the future. We certainly hope we will have the chance to impress you on your next visit!
On the fence, but would try this place again because we were happy with the food. To be fair, we went during Restaurant Week and I am not a fan of restaurants that force you to do the Restaurant Week menus, especially when none of the desserts are something I love.
PROs included the calamari and Osso Bucco, management was attentive when there was an issue, CONs included the stuffy atmosphere, and service - our server became a bartender midshift and we were left in the dust!
Went for restaurant week and had never heard of the place. Found out they had only been open a month so that explains that. I didn’t realize they were in the holiday in. The food was outstanding. It took a while to get drinks and not sure why but the food made up for that. Service was good and it’s cool inside. I am not sure if they made a mistake with flooring choice though. Tables and chairs were sliding on the tile floor. The only real complaint I have is there needs to be a sign outside explaining where the valet parking is because it certainly is not in front of the restaurant like other restaurants and we had to park further away than I wanted to because we couldn’t figure it out.
Everything was delicious! Service was excellent. Will be a repeat customer.
DavidW, Thank you for the perfect 5 review! Chef Luca and his team take great pride in providing a true Italian experience and it appears they did just that on this occassion! We look forward to your return visit to forchetta!
First time at Forchetta was for Queen's Feast and it did not disappoint! Despite a busy dinner, our service was great and the food memorable. I would've liked to see more Italian wines offered, but the food and experience was great!
Such a GREAT experience. Our waiter was phenomenal. Food was spectacular and the whole staff was kind, and welcoming. Would recommend this place to many people. Octopus, Osso Bucco and the Lamb were great.
AmandaG, Thank you for your amazing perfect 5 review! Chef Luca and the team are so proud of making every dining experience a culinary event! We look forward to your return visits!
The restaurant is pretty small, with a large dining room and a smaller hallway attached, but nicely and simply decorated. The cocktail AND wine menu are relatively uninspiring - although they do have a selection of Martinis and Mules that I thought were interesting.
For appetizers, we ordered Elk Meatballs and the Octopus with Cannellini beans and grilled peaches. Both proteins were overcooked unfortunately - the octopus was bordering on rubber and the Elk meatballs were dry. The sauce for the meatballs was delicious though.
For our main course, we ordered the Squid Ink Fettucine, which was awesome (Best dish of the night!). Tons of lobster, great flavors, perfectly cooked pasta. We also got the Duck Breast, cooked medium rare, but it was a bit undercooked with certain parts that I couldn't eat because it was *that* red. And the skin was rendered, but it was served skin side down so it was no longer crispy :( The parts that I could eat though were tender and flavorful!
For Dessert, we ordered the Chocolate Risotto which tasted like an unsweeted Snack Pack chocolate pudding with al-dente rice thrown in there - it just didn't seem cohesive to me. We also ordered the Tiramisu, which was AWESOME, but it came with one DOT of this Raspberry Sauce and we both wanted so much more!!
Overall, the restaurant week preparation for Forchetta didn't impress us, and I'm not sure if we'll be back to try other stuff. We've loved Chef Luca's restaurants in the past, but this seems like a bit of a misstep.
Our experience was delightful! The ambiance takes me back to the Italian coast and Chef Luca’s modern twist on classic Mediterranean dishes is what all my foodie dreams are made of! Everything on the menu is sensational from vongole clams it is just a symphony of explosive and subtle nuances of flavor! My 5 year old greatly enjoyed the parpardelle pasta with braised rabbit. And speaking of kids, this a an excellent location to bring the whole family. Our server Ruiz was the kindest and most attentive you can find at any great restaurant in Charlotte! It’s fine dining at its best there are plenty of options for your young gourmands In the making! Go. Hurry!!!
ThisItalianGirl, Chef Luca, as you mentioned, pours his heart into every dish and I'm delighted that you took the time to share your experience with others. Chef is going to be hosting Kids Cooking Classes in the very near future at forchetta so stay tuned as I know your 5 year old would LOVE IT!
The food overall was pretty good. The octopus and Osso bucco were cooked to perfection. The panna cotta was tasty. However, I don’t recommend the chocolate risotto. It was undercooked and should probably be removed from their menu. The branzino would have been better if they de-scaled and de-boned it better. Also, the ambiance would be more complete with a host/hostess to accommodate seating, instead of relying on the servers to seat people. Since it is a new restaurant, I’m sure once the kinks are all worked out, it will be one of Charlotte’s best new restaurants.
Mibbica, We appreciate you taking the time to share your comments regarding your recent visit! The branzino is one of my favorite dishes and we appreciate your feedback. We agree on the host/hostess as the weekends are just not enough due to our business levels. We look forward to your return visits and I feel confident Chef Luca will get the "kinks" worked out!
There are few things in life that you can 100% rely on, but rest assured, the culinary works of Chef Luca Annunziata is one of those things. Chef Luca of Passion 8 and Luca fame never disappoints. As Chef Luca's number one fans (we would follow him anywhere), I was anxious to check out Forchetta, his latest endeavor. (That's "Fork" in Italian for those novices out there.) As expected, the food did not disappoint. We went Saturday night for Queen's Feast and the offerings on the menu were amazing. The toughest part of the evening was what to choose. I started with the Gnocchi Siciliana which was gnocchi prepared with eggplant and smoked mozzarella drenched in a hearty pomodoro sauce. My friend had the Insalata Romana. Delizioso! As a main course (secondi), I had the Branzino Livornese and my friend had the Caserecce Carbonara. Again, for those of you who have accepted their fate as a want to be, but never will be, Italian speaker, that would be Italian seabass and pasta carbonara, respectively. I can't even describe how good the sea bass was. It was bathing in a luscious broth consisting of cherry tomatoes, calamata olives, capers and potatos. To die for! For someone who has been to Italy many times, trust me when I tell you, Chef Luca is the real thing. I would also like to give a shoutout to our server Yury who was extremely attentive and delightful. We ended the evening with the Chocolate Risotto and the Coconut Panna Cotta accompanied by some limoncello. Grazie mille Chef Luca and staff and we will be back soon. Molto bene!
Beth, Thank you SO much for your amazing (and detailed) review of forchetta! We are SO proud and thankful to have the talent of Chef Luca and the team he has built. Yuri just joined the team a couple weeks ago and am delighted to hear about his stellar service! I know you will be returning often and we truly appreciate you sharing this review and the talents of Chef Luca with the Charlotte community!
Chef Luca never disappoints; unique menus with creative plating & delicious desserts.
Larry, we LOVE Chef Luca and thank you for sharing his talents with our Charlotte community! Chef says HURRY back!
Service was great, and we love being visited by the chef! Food was unique and very tasty. Dessert was wonderful!
It is a wonderful new Northern Italian restaurant for Charlotte. We will return.
Needs to improve wine list . We were a party of 6 do adding gratuity to Bill was expected but mot as high. Everything else was fabulous!
This new venue absolutely lives up to Luca’s heritage from his Passion8 days. The menu is simple, yet very creative. While the service is more homey than elegant, it makes the overall atmosphere very welcoming.
It was great to see Chef Luca back in the kitchen in Charlotte. I had the duck (Luca's duck is always very good, cooked perfectly) and my friend had the squid. Our starters were excellent as well. For dessert, we shared a non-dairy GF pineapple flan. I can only say wow. It was not noisy and we were seated promptly (we had reservations). I am going back and taking my husband. Thanks to Chef Luca and all his team for a great experience.
Hidden Gem - we were afraid because it’s in a holiday inn - but it’s a great restaurant- great food - ordered the best meet and cheese app - calamari- had a sweet sauce - awesome - I had oso bucca - real good - had the salmon - land and veal chop - really good - give it a chance - it’s the real deal
WOW! Had a wonderful meal and the wine recommendation was just perfect.
Love there are small pasta bowls.
Will be back!!!
Panzanella salad was pretty bland, bread in the salad was way too stale. Pappardelle was served in a silly bowl, impossible to eat, I had to put it on my bread plate. Furthermore, it was cold, and the pasta was way too all-dente. Perhaps it was because the pasta was not consistent thickness, so some of it was done, some hard as a rock.
May go back, but not until the chef gets his act together a little better. Although he was in Italy...maybe he should be at the restaurant!
Average food. Pear dessert taste like it had been frozen
Great food and great service - great place for a girl's night. My only suggestion would be to make sure there are white wine selections in stock as they were out of a few that we wanted for the evening, didn't make a difference to us, but would have rather had what we really wanted.
