Nino Trotta — who owns Forcella alongside his girlfriend, general manager Shannon MacGowan, and his brother, wine director Christian Trotta — say that the cozy, candlelit vibe of the restaurant sets Forcella apart in a sea of massive North End trattorias.
“It’s tiny, 33 or 34 seats,” he said. “It’s perfect for a date.”
Chef Robert Morotto, formerly of the Aquitaine Group, has designed a menu that includes dishes from all over Italy, with a slight lean toward Naples, where the Trotta family is from. Primi dishes include meatballs, lobster bisque, and crispy quail, while pastas range from linguine alle vongole and risotto to gnocchi with braised rabbit. Salmon, ribeye, and pork porterhouse round out the menu.

Our first post-COVID outing and it was wonderful. The back patio was delightful and the food was delicious. I would highly recommend the seared sea scallops on pesto risotto.
They have a great outdoor seating area tucked behind the building, next door to Paul Revere’s house. The area is beautiful and the staff was extra helpful in choosing a wine. Our server brought out three different ones for us to try. We had the Salmon and the chicken dish, I don’t remember the names, but the food was excellent. I will definitely recommend Forcella to friends and family.
One of the best restaurants in the NorthEnd. Highly recommend
Very tasty great outdoor dining. Loved the pasta with sauce and speck
All good. Recommend it. Matt was great. Need to improve the walkway to the back.
The food was delicious, as we have come to expect. The back patio is lovely and the staff friendly and knowledgeable.
Dishes from all over Italy, perfectly executed.
Ample portions, interesting wine list, friendly service.
Food was amazing!! They don’t have a full bar, just beer and wine.
The food was not bad, but our experience with our waiter was bristly/uncomfortable.
We were unfamiliar with the wines on the menu, and our request for a recommendation was met with an odd irritability/impatience. I’ve made similar asks at other restaurants (I’m not terribly knowledgeable about wine), but have never been made to feel like my questions were stupid, or that they were a waste of time.
I’m not sure whether our waiter was unfamiliar with the wine list himself, or has just had too many painful experiences with uninformed diners (like myself) in the past. In any case, his responses and his tone were unacceptably inhospitable in my opinion.
We ordered the Meatballs alla Parmigiana, the Rigatoni all’ Amatriciana, and the Spaghetti alla Carbonara. Overall, unimpressed given the price, and a bit disappointed that they did not offer coffee or dessert.
Beautiful restaurant and food. Portion sizes are modest, esp relative to price.
We had a great dinner with friends in a beautiful outside Italian "piazza" setting. Food was delicious, wine was perfectly chilled, service was good too. We are planning our next dinner at Forcella!
The best restaurant in the north end. Outdoor seating on back patio is to die for.
The best dining courtyard in Boston!
Food was below average for the north end. Bread is served cold. Portions are small. No coffee.
Best in the North End and one of my favorites anywhere. Food is amazing and if you're dairy intolerant like me, you'll make Forcella a regular go to spot. Tons of dairy free options and they'll modify any dishes that do have dairy by taking it out.
Overall, our favorite restaurant in the North End and we’ve been living in Boston for over 30 years
Went here for Mother’s Day, the food portions are so small we all left hungry and ended up getting more food elsewhere. The food also takes a while to cook. Small menu. The outside courtyard was nice and the waitress was also very nice! Probably won’t go back because of portions and limited menu.
We had a lovely dinner on the patio. Food was excellent!
I only wish they had coffee to end the mesl
Forcella's Patio is a wonderful surprise. One feels like you are sitting in Italy enjoying a wonderful meal outdoors in the summer. The service is warm and pleasant. The food is good but not outstanding. There is no dessert of coffee yet - but there are plenty of options for dessert in the North End.
Extremely pleasant! Would go back in a heartbeat!
Forcella is one of the best spots in the North End for food, and the back patio is the very best. This isn’t one of those unfortunate NE places that serves a pound of pasta swimming in red sauce; this is the real deal. We enjoyed lamb over paccheri with herbs and white wine sauce, duck with fantastic farro (Chef, please keep that on the menu forever!), and a great steak with polenta. The wine selection is well curated with varietals you don’t see everywhere (pours are a bit skimpy, however). Service is always really great, too. Book ahead—reservations get taken quickly (secret’s out: Forcella rocks).
We love Forcella. The food is delicious and definitely a step above the ubiquitous Italian food of the North End. The wine list is good, and given the quality of the food, reasonably priced. As an FYI, they don’t offer desert. We ate in the patio and felt as if we were in Italy.
It was wonderful to be out dining after almost a year. Forcello did not disappoint. With a sweet patio and great food, it was a perfect evening all around.
I absolutely love this place! EXCELLENT food, informed and friendly service, and a lovely patio out back. I will be back again very soon for that DUCK!
Everything was great and the waitress was very attentive to all aspects of the dining experience.
Seating was very cramped. Large part of me liking this restaurant was the lack of indoor seating (although I understand they need to make up got lost revenue during the pandemic, so not necessarily their fault)
This restaurant never disappoints! The service is fantastic and the food is even better. Perfect for a date night or night out with friends. This evening we had the octopus and Cesar salad to start, both AMAZING. For dinner I had the Risotto del Giorno which was exceptional as usual. If you're looking for for a cozy spot, with delicious food, great wine, and friendly service..this is your spot.
It was a great choice and everyone in our party of 4 enjoyed the food and wine parings.
My only complaint is with the OpenTable app. The link to the address indicated that the restaurant was in the wrong part of the city. We all know old cities like Boston with street names instead of numbers often have duplicate street addresses that are miles apart. Luckily we typed in the address in google maps and found the correct location. It's hard to imagine that no one has brought this up before. But if not, please note: Forcella is at 31 North Square in Boston's North End district. This is not to be confused with the same address in Boston's Charlestown district.
This was our third time back to Forcella and it was just as good a the other two times. Would highly recommend.
May be the best meal my wife and I had in the North End in years.
Best carbonara in the North End!
Fantastic! Amazing! Favorite place!
We've only dined out a couple of times (recently) during the COVID pandemic. Forcella was the perfect experience for us. The restaurant is charming and the waitstaff is both friendly and attentive. We felt "safe" there as all went to great lengths to ensure areas were sanitized and maintained social distancing for their patrons with clear partitions installed between tables. Our waitress was Tatiana and we felt as though we scored big! She is a dream, and made our experience that much better. We cannot wait for our next visit as we'd like to see her again. The food was scrumptious, too. We started with the house salad, which was unique (e.g., it was dressed with a blueberry vinaigrette) and very tasty. My husband ordered the salmon dish while I chose the chef's special... a delicious 'chicken piccata' style risotto. The chicken was cooked to perfection, and well, they had me a capers. Great choice of wines, too, which is important to me. I prefer Italy wines in general. As I recall, we ordered the Falanghina from the Campania region of Italy--delicious and highly recommended! Everything about our experience was perfect and we cannot wait for our second visit and many more to come once we're able to get a handle on COVID. (Our only regret is not visiting this restaurant sooner!) Look forward to seeing Tatiana again soon as she is just lovely through and through!
Enjoyed our outdoor meal this past Saturday at Forcella. Loved the ambience, as the outdoor seating was in a private area where there are no cars or people walking by. Service was great and appreciated the recommendations for which wine to order. Food was great too!
We felt so safe and welcome here. We ate outdoors and bundled up. Thank you to the kindest staff who are very accommodating. The food is amazing - and Chef even made a special dish - for a gluten allergy. We will be back!
Amazing dinner!! The grilled octopus was out of this world. The Cacio e Pepe was as good as any I have had in Italy. And the grilled salmon was perfect. I will definitely return
One of the best in the North End. Great food and friendly staff!
Great food, great atmosphere.
