Nino Trotta — who owns Forcella alongside his girlfriend, general manager Shannon MacGowan, and his brother, wine director Christian Trotta — say that the cozy, candlelit vibe of the restaurant sets Forcella apart in a sea of massive North End trattorias.
“It’s tiny, 33 or 34 seats,” he said. “It’s perfect for a date.”
Chef Robert Morotto, formerly of the Aquitaine Group, has designed a menu that includes dishes from all over Italy, with a slight lean toward Naples, where the Trotta family is from. Primi dishes include meatballs, lobster bisque, and crispy quail, while pastas range from linguine alle vongole and risotto to gnocchi with braised rabbit. Salmon, ribeye, and pork porterhouse round out the menu.

Excellent dinner in their tent in the back. The pasta was perfection. Great distancing around tables, and the staff were absolutely lovely, checked on us a few times, but were masked and very nice. Highly suggest!
Great place, service and unbelievably good food! We absolutely Love it. Nino, Shannon and Titiana are sll great too !
My son lives in Boston and we met for dinner. We’re escorted to a beautiful courtyard and had some amazing pasta. Perfecto!
I went back because I was daydreaming about the duck for two weeks. It was so good! My friend enjoyed her salmon and quail app, and the wine was great. I love Forcella.
It was awesome! We went for my birthday and it was such a great experience.
First time at Forcella and can't wait to go back, We throughly enjoy our meals. We were a party of 5. One vegetarian, one who doesn't eat pasta and we all found something super delicious! We were outside in their courtyard socially distant from the other diners. Our server was friendly and attentive. Thank you for a great night.
Forcella has become a favorite for Italian food. Service is great, food is fresh and delicious, the wine recommendations are perfect. Would highly recommend the dining experience at this cozy restaurant.
Best outdoor atmosphere in private courtyard. So beautiful. Food was delicious. Meatball appetizer was great. Everyone loved their meal. Carbonara, Chicken Parm, Scallops and Mushroom risotto. This is now our favorite North End restaurant. We will definitely will be back.
The best hidden gem in the north end. Never had a bad meal here
Service, atmosphere and food was delicious!
Food was excellent, from baked clam appetizer to our salads, Caesar and house salad which was the beet salad with a blueberry vinaigrette, to our dinners-scallops over pesto risotto and lamb Genoese. Extensive wine list and complimentary limoncello at the end of the meal (no dessert menu)
Fairly priced, great atmosphere-were seated on back patio with umbrellas and lights and tables were spaced out, and server was very attentive. We will be back!
Amazing good and service
Best meal of the summer!! Can’t wait to return.
It was so nice to dine in the outdoor back patio. Delicious food. Incredible service. The bright orange umbrellas, bright white string lights, all tucked into a void created by several old brick beautiful north end buildings was so cool. It’s a magic little courtyard. They even had a strolling violin and accordion that played me Happy Birthday! Masks, menu on your phone, tables distanced well. It’s safe to come into the city... they are waiting for you 😊
Consistently great food. Clean - great experience. Felt safe during Covid
Forcella is amazing. It's an adorable little restaurant that is a gem amid the standard North End Italian places (we are North End residents). The menu is seasonal, creative, and the words "Parm" and "Marsala" are no where to be seen. The wine list is manageable and well-curated and features delicious, lesser-known varietals. Finally, the service was amazing. My wife has a severe food allergy and they were understanding and very accommodating. Everything we ordered was cooked to perfection. It's rare that I'm not disappointed with at least one little part of a meal, but nothing was off -- it was perfect. Here's what we had:
Grilled octopus app (special)
Crispy quail app
Finally, the surprisingly large (yet also somehow intimate) courtyard is just the place to enjoy the meal. Forcella is our new favorite neighborhood spot.
We have visited Forcella several times now. The outdoor back courtyard patio is one of the best outdoor dining experiences in the city. The food is amazing. Highly recommended.
Amazing meal, location and service! Ask for Tatiana - she was an amazing server providing us with amazing food and wine pairings.
Delicious! Awesome wait staff and the cutest courtyard.
This was our first new restaurant since COVID; we’ve been trying to support businesses where we’re regulars already. I can say with certainty that we’re going to be regulars at Forcella. The hostess was very welcoming. The gorgeous back patio feels nothing like the buzz of Hanover street. We had the great luck of having a server who also cooks there, so his expertise around the menu was really valuable. They were also gracious and accommodating around food allergies (which, let’s face it, is a pain for the kitchen). The wine list is very well-curated, and the wines by the glass are better, more interesting offerings than you typically see in the North End. Can’t wait to go back.
Get the cacio e pepe and the duck.
Our waitress was lovely and the food was very good but the hostess was quite rude to us right off the bat when we arrived and it put a damper on the experience.
Food and service are top notch, a great find in the North End
Great server, great food, loved the patio!! We will go back.
Food was amazing - their back patio seating is great with all of the COVID-19 restrictions/rules. We enjoyed the atmosphere and even having live music while dining. We will definitely be back!
Great patio out back; you don’t feel like you’re in Boston. Food is terrific. Wish they had more than just wine and beer.
Could not believe there was a giant patio in the back of this restaurant in the middle of the north end! Great spot for dinner. Wine and food were delicious. Service was great as well!
It’s really difficult to given any restaurant high marks for ambiance during this pandemic but Forcella has created a really lovely spot in the courtyard behind the restaurant. Kudos to the staff for working so hard to make dining out pleasurable again!
Not excited about how packed the tables were, and the accordionist/violinist who were singing near tables without coverings. Pandemic!
Food is amazing and outside seating is perfectly spaced for social distancing. And so pretty!
Loved the food and the service is great!
Waited for too long to get dinner served. Food was pretty average
Outdoor courtyard was awesome. Food was presented nicely and tasted awesome. The Caesar salad was a little funky but nice. Great wine list by the glass.
College friends were visiting Boston to wish our nephew a great senior year at BU. The outside dining on the patio was very nice and we felt safe. The food was awesome, the wine was awesome and the location was awesome. We have nothing but good things to say about Focella. We will definitely dine there again.
Fabulous courtyard !! One of the best options on north end
Was nice to try this newish place and they've done a great job with their patio as far as getting a lot of tables in. That said, they have very bright lights that shine on the whole terrace that are way too strong and disturb not only the guests but also, I am sure, the neighboring residents. The violinist is pretty bad, the food was decent, service also, although I think it is ridiculous that their interpretation of our moron governor's order is to tell people they must order food at the same time as drinks.
Perfect date night in the city with my husband. The meal was outstanding. We started with the octopus appetizer (on special) and then I had the scallops over risotto and my husband had the duck. Love the outdoor patio in the back. Would definitely return!
great food, service, environment
Great waitresses, lovely outdoor courtyard that felt private even with lots of tables, great recommendations from our waitress for everything we ordered. Definitely recommend.
awesome meal and the courtyard patio is so pretty!
