Nino Trotta — who owns Forcella alongside his girlfriend, general manager Shannon MacGowan, and his brother, wine director Christian Trotta — say that the cozy, candlelit vibe of the restaurant sets Forcella apart in a sea of massive North End trattorias.
“It’s tiny, 33 or 34 seats,” he said. “It’s perfect for a date.”
Chef Robert Morotto, formerly of the Aquitaine Group, has designed a menu that includes dishes from all over Italy, with a slight lean toward Naples, where the Trotta family is from. Primi dishes include meatballs, lobster bisque, and crispy quail, while pastas range from linguine alle vongole and risotto to gnocchi with braised rabbit. Salmon, ribeye, and pork porterhouse round out the menu.

Ideal Italian dinner dinning experience!
Great thru and thru!! Would recommend if want quiet low key spot wit bangin food
Forcella is a hidden gem in the North End. The menu is a bit limited, as compared with some other restaurants, but the food is always delicious. The service is consistently superb, especially Tatiana! This is my favorite restaurant because of the food, service and ambiance.
Delicious! Staff was so knowledgeable and the outdoor patio was so charming!
Good food lovely back patio. Nice wine list. Friendly service
They were not happy when my husband showed up without a mask, he had forgotten it in the car because we had such a difficult time trying to park because the North End was so crowded. They sat us in the corner right at the open window but then proceeded to seat a table of 4 people 2 feet away from us! We were both crunched in the corner where the window was. Social distancing is 6 feet, the inside of the restaurant was completely empty the whole time we were there. Everyone else was sitting out on the back patio and across the street. The menu was extremely limited. Unfortunately we will not return. It was our wedding anniversary and we were looking for a special night out, the food came out in 10 minutes we were basically done with the whole meal in 40 minutes.
Great service and delicious food. Very very good all around!
We ate outside (across the street) and felt comfortable and not crowded. Safe to enjoy our delicious meal.
Wonderful service and the food is delicious. Interesting wine list with many new wines to discover. Worth a visit.
The outdoor patio in back is magical!
Amazing food and service!
We loved it!!! Food amazing had octopus appetizer, duck for dinner. My husband had linquini with clams yummy! Loved eating in the back courtyard, Felt like we were back in Italy! Definately go!
Food was wonderful and the back patio was a Tortola dream! Felt like an escape private dining experience.
I can’t say enough how great this place was. Everything we had was delightful. Started with the quail and the risotto of the day. Both were phenomenal and paired deliciously with the Rosata. My partner had the veal chop special for a main and I had the risotto pesto. Both of us were overwhelmed by how good it was. We will *absolutely* be going back. Made my partner’s birthday so special!
The entire experience was truly memorable. Quiet courtyard, excellent food and kind/ efficient service. What more can anyone ask of a restaurant? We loved it.
Very charming and the waitstaff and management are excellent
Food, service and ambience were perfect. Love their linguine a la vongole. This restaurant has become one of my favorites. Consistently excellent. Highly recommended. Our waitress Tatiana super nice and knowledgeable about meal choices and wine selection.
Gracious greeting. Lovely patio and attentive service. Pasta Genovese with braised lamb delicious!
A very good experience. The back patio area is great.
Outstanding food! We were seated 20 mins past reservation time. Plenty of open tables but understaffed. It would’ve been better if they told us they were running behind due to staffing when we checked in. Service was overall good but the two ladies running the entire patio kept up as much as they could and were amazing but definitely needed help.
Excellent!! Our favorite restaurant in the North End!
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Forcella. The patio is lovely; the waitstaff very knowledgeable, attentive, and helpful; and the food is well prepared. The mushroom risotto was particularly delicious (and vegetarian!).
Delicious food, good service, good ambiance. Highly recommend.
Ambience was lovely and the food was excellent.
Dinner was delicious. Service was great, even with us sitting across the street in the park. We had a lovely table and it was a perfect evening for people watching and delicious food and wine.
Great staff, food was very good as well
Great food and ambiance. Bonus points for playing The Smiths.
The food was great as was the service. The only unfortunate part was the size of the restaurant, crowding of tables and noise level. We had originally wanted to be outside but because of weather had to move inside. The restaurant called earlier in the day and offered us seating inside, which was great. It would have been even better if the restaurant had outdoor seating that protected against rain as many North End restaurants have installed.
This was our first visit to Forcella, but it will not be our last. The staff and management were very accommodating for some of our special needs. Server was gracious and food was great. Best of all was the beautiful garden in the rear of the restaurant. Lighting, seating, ambiance was just lovely.
Perfect night out with friends visiting. Amazing food - fresh pasta, duck was delicious, attentive service with wine pairing recommendations, gorgeous lit outdoor patio hidden. A favorite!
The seating and outdoor ambience was very comfortable and quiet. We enjoyed the food we had, with the exception of being disappointed in the Caesar salad. Expect to have more anchovies and more upscale lettuces. We had the special which was lobster risotto and we had rabbit gnocchi.
Sat in the back patio Which was a gem of a find. Very spacious, well spaced out tables but with a lot of energy on a Saturday night. Went there for a wedding anniversary. Great food, good wine list.
The food was delicious, excellent service and I loved the outdoor patio. All around enjoyable evening. I will be back!
Beautiful romantic setting on the back patio is a great little gem. Food was on point and only questionable element was the check brought rather abruptly after the mains sans any offer for desert. We were polite and had friendly rapport throughout. Maybe she had somewhere to be. No worries as we just walked over to Mike’s Pastry for bomb cannoli. Great dinner overall
Menu is fantastic. Wide variety of items and for the most part everything was well prepared. Wine list is on the small side, but quite good. Relative to other spots in the North End, the menu is fairly pricey. Some posters may complain about lack of coffee/desert, but many restaurants in this neighborhood forgo these to encourage people to wander to cafes in the neighborhood instead (and there are plenty). If dining outdoors, ask to be seated in the back courtyard. Wasn't aware of that at this spot and it's got a decent amount of charm. Overall, enjoyed it and would return.
Just spectacular food. We ordered the gnocchi with rabbit, braised lamb Genovese and the linguine with clam sauce. One the best Italian meals we’ve ever eaten.
We sat outside and the ambiance was excellent. The back patio is surrounded by multi-story buildings and is very cool, but that also makes it a little loud. Service and food were excellent.
They asked us to put our full order in at once - which is fine but kind of goes against the vibe you want on a Friday evening in the north end. They also don’t have desert or coffee? Weird for the north end.
We were greeted promptly and taken to outdoor table. Service was very good and my duck was memorable. We will definitely when we are in Boston again.
great place an hidden gem in the hearth of the north end
