Forbes Mill Steakhouse - Los Gatos Ratings and Reviews
We dine at Forbes Mill about twice a year. We like to celebrate special events at Forbes Mill and my husband is a direct descendent of the founder of the Forbes Mill. (Not the restaurant but the original mill.) We were very surprised that though we had a reservation and the restaurant was very empty, we weren't seated for twenty minutes. We had arrived at the 6:30 reservation time. We were greeted at the table and the waiter promised to send over the cocktail menu. It never arrived. He returned in about 15 minutes wanting to know our drink order. When we said we hadn't received the menu he commented, "if you want something right, do it yourself." And though the waiter had personality he wasn't a good waiter. I think it is really poor service when you don't get your drinks until 40 minutes after being seated. Everything was very slow. People around us received their meals and left the restaurant and we still didn't have our dinners. We were about to ask for the manager when our dinners were served at about 9:00!!! Yes, we like a leisure dinner and yes we had ordered salads but that was almost an hour after we had received and finished our salads. So either the kitchen was behind or our waiter hadn't turned our order in. Either way, I will think twice before returning and I would ask for another waiter. Yes, the waiter comped us the appetizers but that is still not the service you expect from Forbes and on a $440 bill. Perhaps, that is why the restaurant was so empty on a Saturday night.
The food was great as usual, the Martini's are too small though? MY Husbands steak had a little too much fat but it was Tender and the beet salad was AWESOME!!! We will definitely be back and this time the table was PERFECT and Our Romantic and quiet table was the one by the bar!!
Thanks for My Great Birthday dinner with My name written in and the free dessert with Happy Birthday was a Beautiful touch!!!
Went here to celebrate a belated birthday dinner for my wife. The restaurant printed her name on the prix fixe menu wishing her a happy birthday, which was a nice touch. Ordered half a dozen oysters as an appetizer - selection from Canada and Washington state (yum). She ordered the 3-course prix fixe...1st course was clam chowder (a little runny). Next was the entrée, which included "small" (not really that small) portions of bison, halibut, and wagyu - all quite tasty. Dessert was a cherry and almond tart, also pretty good.
I ordered the blackened ribeye, which included crispy onion strings, green beans, and mashed potatoes. The ribeye was huge - I ate about 2/3 of it. Everything was great.
Our server recommended a Pinot Noir that paired well w/our dinner. When my wife wanted to add a Manhattan, he also told her about a specific kind that was different from what she wanted, but she decided to try one and really liked it.
Overall, we had a positive experience and will definitely be back.
Group of 4 of us go out for each of our birthdays. Place looked nice but dinner left much to be desired. I don't recommend the prefixe menu at all. Steaks were tough and halibut very over cooked. Service was great but wouldn't go back. Emailed them directly to no response.
The food here is excellent. But when I pay $89 for a steak, I expect the service to be over the top. The service here was good, but not high end. The waiter kept cheerily talking to us and it was very noisy. At this price point, I like a quiet place where the waiter and servers are nearly invisible. The waiter told us we could have any entree in the tasting menu as a single ala carte item. But then he didn't know the price of that choice. Also, the server began clearing our table before I had finished and tried to hand me my bowl of soup. Both are sore spots in serving for me. The food really was delicious and made me very happy. Finally, the wines are expensive. At that price, I'd like a sommelier.
We went to Forbes Mill for our Anniversary dinner. Both food and service were excellent. Our server, James was attentive and very friendly. The best Rib eye we've ever had. We also appreciated the custom made menu and Anniversary dessert. Thank you for a memorable dinner experience. We will definitely go back!
This was a splurge for us, for a special pre-Father's Day treat. But the food was excellent, the service was good. We had a 12-yr old with us and he was treated great (some restaurants don't give kids much respect & treat them like a pain, but Forbes was awesome with him.)
One tweak, was our waiter did "one thing at a time". He was polite & cheerful - but he didn't greet us right away, and when he came to the table he just stood there, so my husband said "hi, how's it going?". Then when coming to the table he would do one thing (i.e. get us menus, but didn't take a drink order. Brought rolls, but didn't ask if we're ready to order.)
Anyway, he was nice, the food was good, and we're glad we treated ourselves to a night out!
Forbes Mill was all the rage when it opened several years ago. But the food, service and ambiance have remained stagnant. It's not bad, but it's pricey and I would have expected more. Feels really old and dated. No innovation on the menu. They're in cruise control.
We had diner on a Sunday evening with reservations and were seated immediately. Forget the price, it is well worth it. The filet can be cut with a fork along, the sides (creamed spinach and asparagus) were delicious and the Chocolate Pot-au-Creme was to die for. Let's not forget the service (Jim) was awesome along with the staff.
This was my father-in-law's 93rd birthday celebration and he was treated like a king. There was a special menu announcement inside the menu.
Everything was done to perfection and to top off the meal he was brought in complementary birthday chocolate dessert on a handwritten happy birthday plate.
He loved it, what a great experience.
Thanks Forbes Mill!
