Forbes Mill Steakhouse - Danville Ratings and Reviews
We have now had 3 different date nights where the food was 30 min delayed out of the kitchen and the food was so so. My husband ordered a filet that arrived luke warm after being told the plate was extremely hot, it wasn’t .Sadly we won’t be returning to our favorite steakhouse. Definitely had the b-team last night.
Had only been there once for lunch. This time, I made a reservation and requested a quiet and low profile table...such thing doesn't exist there, it was loud - very loud!
Staff was nice, food was good - nothing spectacular. I'm not complaining, but the restaurant's noise disrupted my mood (I like to hear background music when eating a good steak) on this Friday night.
The steak was good- had the prime-but didn't seem to be as good as I remember it from the previous times we ate there. the salads the ladies had were very good but the onion soup the men had was mediocre. The parmesan steak fries were awful. seemed to be leftover baked potatoes that were fried until more than crunchy and were over salted. The crab in the twin peaks wasn't very good.
Maybe the food wasn't up to par since we went on a Monday. We were disappointed because we had always had good meals on our previous visits.
Service by Tyler and Chris was outstanding! They both went above and beyond the normal level of service! My sister's filet mignon was perfection - taste and level of doneness. My ribeye, on the other hand, tasted very delicious but had more grissle and fat than I thought it should have had. I did not send back but think the quality/grade was a little lacking. Despite my slightly over grissly ribeye, my sister and I had a wonderful dining experience!
We had an absolutely spectacular dinner last night at Forbes Mill! I wasn't expecting to be wowed like this. The service was friendly and prompt also our food came out steamy hot and plated so beautifully. I ordered the Fillet & Shrimp. It was divine. I think the only thing that topped this mouth-watering dinner was the desserts! I couldn't resist, so I ordered 3! So glad I did. I had the Bourbon Maple Kona coffee Brûlée, Lemon ginger cheesecake and the Carrot cake with candied bacon! I mean come on, these are 'world class' desserts! Right here in Danville?! Exceptional. 5 star category. Go!
Sadly, this location isn't as good as the other location. Shortly after we got seated, a gentleman approached our booth table and asked whether we prefer sparkling or natural water. Just because we asked for the wine list before we could respond to regular water, he got annoyed. Then a different gentleman came over to take our drinks/wine and the rest of the food order. A real good steak does not need any sauce. My husband ordered the wagyu and for some reason there's this thick brown sauce around the meat. Good thing I specifically mentioned if there's any sauce accompanying my filet mignon to put the sauce on the side. Well the chef or whoever plated my food literally used a tri-plate set where I had my steak on the left, side asparagus middle plate and the scampi shrimp on the right. Interesting plating.
Overpriced for the actual quality of the food and service. Beef was best option. Desserts were good. But other dishes weren’t worth the price charged. Service wasn’t terrible, but again, wasn’t attentive and timely as expected by the reputation of the restaurant and the price we paid. Is this place “resting on its laurels”?
The service was absolutely terrible. The server never brought bread until after the meal. The sides that were order came out wrong but was never able to tell him because he never checked in once while we were eating. Definitely will never return and will not recommend to anyone.
Eh. Just okay. Nice enough atmosphere, but food was mediocre and overpriced. Christmas, so service was a little slow. Great location--wish they would work on the cuisine. The menu reads well, but the crab cakes were over-breaded, deep-fried crab balls that didn't taste like crab, the ahi sliders had little flavor and the salad was underdressed and bitter. Wouldn't go back.
We arrived 15’ before our reservation. Restaurant was lit slow that day there a lot table left... wish they would have seated us on time ... we still have to wait for another 15’ after our reservation hour.... didn’t know why... understand if they were busy... the table we was assigned to was empty when we got there ... so overall we had to wait for 30😩
Forbes Mill is a wonderful place with excellent food. Everything has a touch of class and they deliver outstanding food and service.
Only rated 4/5 because my overall experience was left disappointed when the following day I found all of my remaining side dishes from my twin peaks meal were missing from my to-go food. (Had half of everything the meal comes with remaining). The food was so tasty I highly looked forward to eating the other half the next day for lunch. When I opened he box to find it was not included in my package, it broke my heart. Will definitely check my items before leaving next time.
Outside of that, everything was outstanding.
Waiter was distracted- we had to remind him we didn’t get bread then he forgot about the soup order. When we reminded him wrong one was brought out. Then 5e correct one but the French onion soup has a small piece of bread floating lonely and no yummy cheese cap.... what the heck? We sent it back...
Came in on a Sunday night after going to a football game, I understand that we weren't dressed as nice as others and somewhat feel we were treated differently as a result. Servers were pooling their section and even with that we were not checked on enough. Had to flag down support staff for refills on water and bread while watching the same two servers dote over their other tables. Courses were not paced well with huge gaps in time between appetizers and soup then entrees. We wanted to do desert but with dinner taking as long as it did we didn't have time before having to pick up the kids. For the first time coming in to try Forbes Mill after hearing such good things about it, we left very disappointed for what we paid. The lack of service overshadowed how good the steak was. I understand we didn't appear to be the normal demographic for the area but I would recommend not judging a book by its cover and treat all guests equally. My money is just as valuable as anyone else's.
This was our second trip to Forbes Mill and I doubt we’ll be back. We were seated 15 minutes after our reservation time (although we were on time) and waited another 5 minutes at the table because it wasn’t set right. After being seated we waited another 7 minutes to see the server and get the wine list. Our steaks were excellent; however, the baked potatoes were over cooked and crusty. We requested sour cream and butter when we placed our order and it was not served; we had to request it again along with salt and pepper as there was none on the table. Our server (blonde females) was ambivalent throughout our meal. I expect a much higher level of service at a restaurant of this caliber. Our experience simply was not worth the price we paid.
The steaks were prepared perfectly and were delicious. Overall a great restaurant, excellent service and we will return on special occasions. We always get a good table.
Prices are on the high side. Steak options were somewhat limited.... had to choose between a 6 oz fillet or a 14 oz NY. Would have liked to have ordered an 8 oz NY.
A nice spot for excellent steaks with a very good wine list and great wait service. The lights are somewhat dimmed creating a romantic & relaxing environment. The only con:would not recommend the Half & Half Sides(2 sides in one), as they are small portions and were not very warm(!)
During my first visit on July, I was not so happy about the service, but I wanted ti give anothe try and made rezervation for meeting with my friends after 7 years break.
After I made the rezervation, I red the reviews and terified. I was at the edge of cancelling my rez. But it was to late to do that.
That night started at the bar and I got very friendly treatment.
But the real thing, was having Alex and good meal. We were ofered different tables for our choice, and after Alex showed up, I was so happy that I did not cancelled my rezervation. He made our meeting a wonderful one.
Thank you for everything.
