Forbes Mill Steakhouse - Danville Ratings and Reviews
This restaurant has gone down in both service and food quality since they closed for their kitchen renovation. The waitstaff is pleasant but just not as good as they were in the past. While It still has a nice ambiance - it is regrettably no longer worth the price.
First time there for Valentine's day and service was way too slow. I understand it was vday but it took 30 mins for the server to take our order. I think he forgot to get back to us. We had to flag him down to get our order. I believe if we did not flag him down, it would have taken forever to get to us. We were hardly checked on. A bit disappointed.
It was a Valentines Day dinner. They were busy like every place would be. We were seated, but we were not acknowledged for about 15 minutes. However the host that sat us noticed and apologized. That was good looking out on his part and offered a free appetizer. We did take the offer. The pork wings were tasty and just enough heat. My wife's Filet Mignon was perfect. However I ordered my New York medium. It was more rare to Med rare. I didn't want to ruin the dinner so I ate it as is. It was good but a little too rare for my liking. My wife did not like the use of the IPad for the wine ordering. Esp the amount of light it puts out for a dim restaurant. She would prefer a traditional menu like the food and desert menus. I will try to get her to give it another try , she is so use to Flemings and has always preferred them. We will have to see.
We were celebrating a birthday and the service was great...Our server was very personable! Most of us ordered the fish & chips and it was good...I asked them for tarter sauce and although they don't normally have it, they came out a few minutes later with their homemade tarter sauce and it was delicious!!
Though I have lived near this restaurant for many, many years, I'd never been. What a shame! The food was outstanding. Our steaks were perfect and I'm still dreaming of the amazing mashed potatoes. We were celebrating a family birthday and the night out was just great. My only complaint would be that it is a bit noisy. It was tough hearing people across the table.
We were very disappointed as we had chosen this restaurant to celebrate my 70th birthday. Made reservations 2 weeks in advance. We were offered a table next to a table of 8 loud men instead of a cozy booth. They had just seated a walk in couple in the last booth. Our waiter did the best he could but had 10 tables to take care of so the service was very slow. The food was Okay but it was so noisy we had a hard time visiting. I won’t go back.
This place continues to be a "Go to" restaurant for me. The staff is ALWAYS attentive and knowledgeable. I had a steak and my wife had sea bass. My wife wasn't sure she would like the sea bass "as advertised" on the menu and asked if they could do a "simple grill" with salt pepper and a fresh lemon squeeze - they prepared the fish perfectly and to my wife's liking with no fuss. BAM! A great night!!!
The steak was really good! The sides were just ok with a lot of cream. The service was odd with two servers. I went there expecting white table cloths but they had white paper on top of the table cloths and thy didn't take away the crumbs after each course. We were told they would get us water but we ended up having to ask again. The menu was great in that it said "Happy Birthday" on the insert which was a really nice touch! Unfortunately they forgot it was my husband's birthday and brought the desert with no candle when throughout the night they had delivered deserts with candles to various other tables. The ambiance was ok but not like a true steakhouse--more like an old house. The carrot cake was cold and they were taking down tables and moving them around us before we started desert. The drinks were just ok. Would come back for just the steak.
Disappointed. Previous experiences were excellent but not this latest occasion.
Mediocre service, less than mediocre dinner.
Only positive experience was dinner guests, otherwise evening would have been a total loss.
Hoping my comments will be acknowledged as constructive criticism and necessary actions taken to regain previous consistency & quality.
At this I DO NOT recommend Forbes Mill. Danville. Take your money & expectations elsewhere.
Weird vibe in this place for some reason. The food was good not great. When we got to the entrance I was wheeling my disabled wife up and the hostess didn’t bother to open the door for us she just sat there looking at us. The wait staff was cold and unfriendly. It felt very unwelcoming. The thing that really turned me off was that when I payed the bill, a server came back to the table to get the signed receipt and looked at it while we were standing there to check the tip. I thought that was very classless. Once they saw we left a nice tip everyone spoke to us to tell us goodnight. I don’t think we will be ever returning to this place.
I took my family here to celebrate my retirement. We had an EXCELLENT meal. Everyone at the restaurant was very nice and attentive. The only disappointment was that we had 6:30pm reservations on a Sunday and they ran out of Prime Rib. Apparently there was a large party and most ordered the Prime Rib. We were also sat next to a table that was loud (celebrating a birthday)...but that was NOT a big deal. Two of us had the surf and turf (fillet and lobster tail). It was delicious...but for $76/ea We thought it was a bit small). Overall, the night was wonderful. I have been to this restaurant before and will absolutely be back!
Honestly my dinner sucked everyone told me this place is the best, i got the ribeye spent $80 and the taste sucked no flavor at all my wife’s food was wrong ,for a $200 dinner without drinks the food should of been perfect no excuses . I go to haps in Pleasanton their food is 10 times better and cheaper will never go back
There were 6 of us for dinner. The best part of the meal was the appetizers - I highly recommend any of the appetizers on the menu. If I go again, I'll go just for the appetizers and a drink at the bar. The bartenders and drinks before dinner were great. The service during dinner was poor. Someone asked us if we wanted bread between our appetizers and before they took our order for dinner - there was a long time between the appetizers and someone taking our order for dinner. We didn't get the bread until after our dinner was delivered when we asked our waitress for it since it had not been delivered. All of our salads lacked dressing. One person had ordered one of the entree salads for dinner and asked for more dressing because her salad was so dry. The dressing was never delivered, and the waitress didn't come back to check. So, she ate her salad, dry and needless to say it wasn't very good. The waitress remembered when she was clearing the table and asked if she wanted dressing for the 1/2 of the salad she didn't eat. At that point, we were all done with dinner, so she said no. They didn't offer to take it off the bill or bring her something else. The rest of our dinner entrees were good - nothing spectacular, or nothing I would recommend. If you go - go for the appetizers!
For the price, the service was lacking and the food needs an upgrade. The steak was fine, but the sides are bland and need an overhaul. Asparagus and mashed potato sides seemed afterthoughts and not very well executed: neither were flavorful.
The wait to get a dessert menu was inordinately long. Our leftovers were packaged and delivered to our table and we still hadn't seen a dessert menu. When we finally got dessert, it was disappointing. I really don't know how you can mess up carrot cake, but the cake was dry and flavorless, and the frosting has been refrigerated way too long - it was crumbly and bland. I wish they would return to a more shallow dish for the creme brulee - using a deep dish instead of a wide and shallow one throws the whole creme to crunch ratio totally off. It still tastes good, but I prefer the shallow dish.
We have now had 3 different date nights where the food was 30 min delayed out of the kitchen and the food was so so. My husband ordered a filet that arrived luke warm after being told the plate was extremely hot, it wasn’t .Sadly we won’t be returning to our favorite steakhouse. Definitely had the b-team last night.
Had only been there once for lunch. This time, I made a reservation and requested a quiet and low profile table...such thing doesn't exist there, it was loud - very loud!
Staff was nice, food was good - nothing spectacular. I'm not complaining, but the restaurant's noise disrupted my mood (I like to hear background music when eating a good steak) on this Friday night.
The steak was good- had the prime-but didn't seem to be as good as I remember it from the previous times we ate there. the salads the ladies had were very good but the onion soup the men had was mediocre. The parmesan steak fries were awful. seemed to be leftover baked potatoes that were fried until more than crunchy and were over salted. The crab in the twin peaks wasn't very good.
Maybe the food wasn't up to par since we went on a Monday. We were disappointed because we had always had good meals on our previous visits.
Service by Tyler and Chris was outstanding! They both went above and beyond the normal level of service! My sister's filet mignon was perfection - taste and level of doneness. My ribeye, on the other hand, tasted very delicious but had more grissle and fat than I thought it should have had. I did not send back but think the quality/grade was a little lacking. Despite my slightly over grissly ribeye, my sister and I had a wonderful dining experience!
We had an absolutely spectacular dinner last night at Forbes Mill! I wasn't expecting to be wowed like this. The service was friendly and prompt also our food came out steamy hot and plated so beautifully. I ordered the Fillet & Shrimp. It was divine. I think the only thing that topped this mouth-watering dinner was the desserts! I couldn't resist, so I ordered 3! So glad I did. I had the Bourbon Maple Kona coffee Brûlée, Lemon ginger cheesecake and the Carrot cake with candied bacon! I mean come on, these are 'world class' desserts! Right here in Danville?! Exceptional. 5 star category. Go!
