Excellent as always!
Great place for a special occasion and an exceptional steak! Staff very friendly.
Took my Father-In-Law to Forbes Mill for his 80th birthday. As always, the food was good, though a bit pricey. The service was outstanding and our waiters too excellent care of us. Very comfortable place to enjoy a steak dinner.
Excellent service and delicious food
Consistently good food and attentive service. Relaxing and comfy atmosphere. Great place to have a leisurely meal.
Great food, great service and a great time all around..
We have eaten there many times and this was the worst!! Service was TERRIBLE!! We had to ask other servers to take our order, clear plates, refills etc!! So disgusted and it was not busy!!! Will definitely not be going back any time soon.
We went here for our Anniversary Dinner & they even customized our menus! It was a great atmosphere & amazing service!
Great food, great service! Had the Ribeye, it was amazing!! Will definitely be back!
Top notch dining. Great place for lunch.
Excellent as always.
Always great food and service, with no negative surprises. The French Onion soup was fantastic, as was the Anniversary sample plate. We have been going to Forbes Mill for over 15 years and we have never been disappointed.
2 stars is a little generous. Would have been 1 star if not for the personalized birthday menu.
This was my first and almost certainly last visit to Forbes. I should have visited before the staff shakeup. Adam Bortolussi is still listed online as the Executive Chef of the Danville location, but I had read about losing him and our menu confirmed that, listing J.B. Hernandez as the EC.
Starting with the service, it was just mediocre at best. Nothing stood out and I could have easily been at a random diner vs a supposed "white table cloth" restaurant. Service was slow, even on a slow night with what looked like adequate staff on hand. They either did not come by very often or duplicated visits such as coming by to take our order twice. No one was particularly friendly with the exception of the woman who came by once (possibly a manager?). She was pleasant and friendly, but that was it. No one came by and asked how the food was, because I would have said the following:
I had the lobster tail add-on and it had to be one of the worst (completely over cooked) tails I've EVER eaten. It was as if it had been cooked that morning and left on a warming tray all day. The flavor on my "center cut" NY was fine, but the meat itself was a little tougher than I expect from a NY. The April prix fixe was just ok. The scallop was the highlight, with the filet falling midpack and the sundried tomato steak concoction being a pass.
My family and I eat out very often (probably more than we should!) and this was one of the biggest disappointments from an expectation vs reality standpoint.
I really wanted to like Forbes, but it looks like I really should have made the effort to visit before they lost their chef and joy for service.
Used to LOVE this place however a new chef, menu changes and beloved favorites are gone and replaced with 1/2 portion poor substitutes. Sadly we won’t be going back. We did notice a lot more vacant tables even at the bar (weekend night too!)
The wait staff is attentive and the food is amazing. I have a few weird allergies so they made a special sauce for my entree. That’s amazing customer service!
Back to the food. Not a steakhouse guy but the steak here is so good and you can taste the quality. Not an everyday place but when you have a special occasion give Forbes Mills a try.
Was charged for corkage which we expected. Waitress poured once, then we were on our own. Also no water refills.
Birthday dinner was very nice!
Took 5 10 min and 2 requests to get waiter to open wine. Bone in prime rib was very fatty and filet (both prime) was adequate. Fish was adequate. Due to poor service desert was comped which was a nice touch. Waiter did not seem comfortable recommending a “house” Cabernet asked for by one member of our group.
Family birthday dinner
Excellent menu and wine list. The caesar salad and the roasted beet salad were very good and beet salad was filled with fresh roast red and yellow beets. The filet and the New York steaks were prepared to perfection. The asparagus was cooked just right. The wine list is impressive. The only negative comment has to do with our server who was slow and not very attentive. We have been going to this restaurant for years and notice subtle changes in the staff being less friendly. I like the restaurant for lunch and the happy hour menu is very good.
A nice birthday dinner. Relaxed, good drinks, nice ambience. Food a little pricey but somewhat normal for a good steakhouse. Easily can spend $100/ person with drink, app, and entree. Would recommend it for a special night out!
Great place for ladies lunch! Great lunch specials everyday but you have to ask! Kinda weird.
The dessert they brought out was so nice and we appreciated the personalized pre fix menu. The small details were nice! Amazing good and pretty good service.
Really great evening. Came here to celebrate a birthday and I wasn’t disappointed. Everything from food to wine list and service were outstanding. Will definitely be back!
I heard they lost their chef. They must have lost their servers also. Or, the servers they had were just very unhappy, period! No one smiled, they forgot to give us a drink or wine menu, they forgot to bring the three sauces we ordered with our steak, and once they brought the sauces one was cold and all were extremely sweet. The bus boy was very helpful and did smile. I told him he should have his waiters job to which he replied, I smile because I like my job! Well, maybe the entire staff should be fired and the bus boys can run the show. I don't see this restaurant around much longer if this continues. Go to Bridges or Dana's or anywhere else!
We are a family of four that visited Forbes Mill for my girlfriend's birthday. This has been our spot for her birthday for a couple of years now. We had an 8 PM reservation. We were asked to wait while they prepared our table. We waited about 10 minutes. The menu had the usual "birthday acknowledgment." The waiter took his time to make it over. It was busy, so we expected a little bit of a wait. We ordered drinks and an appetizer.
After 10 minutes they brought the appetizer and our drinks. We ordered our food, and
the waiter left. It went downhill after that. We waited for about 10 minutes for bread, and that went fast. We waited for about 30 minutes, and our drink glasses and bread basket are empty. We were still waiting for our salads. The family of four sitting near us were already eating their entrees, and they sat down about 15 minutes after we did. Front of house checked on them but they didnt check on us.
The waiter never came to check on us either . When the salads eventually came out, they were warm, so I assumed they were sitting at the pass for a while. The Ceasar was grossly overdressed and was minuscule for the price. We waited for over an hour for our entrees to finally make it out. The steaks were barely warm. My GFs food came out on this ridiculous little 3 section appetizer plate. The steaks were shriveled up to nothing. She had to most difficult time trying to keep them on the plate while she cut them. We would gladly have said something to our waiter, but he was nowhere in sight.
We had empty glasses and mediocre food. When the waiter did come back, we got the check, and I paid for it promptly. It had been almost 2 hours. No, we did not ask for a manager to "fix" anything, we just didn't want to be there anymore. We paid more than $250 for a meal that wasn't worth half of that. We're going to make Ruth's Chris our spot going forward. It's a shame because we live in Danville and we prefer to give business to our local restaurants.
found this restaurant to be of high quality in its presentation. the lighting was excellent as well as the food. I will be attending this place in the future
FABULOUS food and service! Went for our 5th anniversary and had some wonderfully surprises with our tasting menu and delicious deserts. The steaks are TOP NOTCH and you can even select Kobe beef! Wife had the salmon which was done to perfection. (De asked for it to be “well done” and they delivered!). They ha e Stone Cap Cabernet which you can’t get everywhere and which is so amazing. Can’t say enough about this hidden gem in Danville, CA
Great night out without the baby. Food was excellent and cooked perfectly.
Over all very good but I thought $47 for an 18 year old McCallum scotch on the rocks was a bit unreasonable. Plus the pour was skimpy.
The 2 martinis we had were small and too icy.
Service was less than usual
Food still good
We were out celebrating our daughter's end of finals. We had been there before during the day time. At night the restaurant is very dark! Hard to see your food. We did, however, have a nice time with a wonderful server who was kind enough to take some costs off of our bill because two of our steaks were under-cooked and the other one was over-cooked. He even had a manager stop by to see that we were happy. It is a pricey-place, so plan on spending $50+ per person for just your entree. Great for a romantic evening.
The sea bass entrée was over cooked and I was very disappointed in the quality of the dish.
We went to Forbes Mill steakhouse on weekend most time. This time, we went a Monday. The ribeye steak was very disappointing. We got a stomachache at night.
The good was delicious; our waiter was kind.
Big kudos to Steve the bartender who is the consummate professional!!
Aged ny steak was tough for ny steak with inedible fibrous area that wasnt trimmed, mac and cheese was without cheese but rather pasta with a sprinkle of cheese, the prime filet was ordered med rare and brought out rare minus. good service
Very overpriced for the quality of food. Sat at the bar and the service was good. We will not be back.
This was our first time and we were impressed. The food was delicious but our service wasn’t great. Looked like our server had too many tables.
This is a quality restaurant serving above the grade meats and sides. Food was outstanding.
It was a very quiet night when we dined, probably because of the rain. But the service was great and the food was wonderful. I loved the chicken mint soup. Very tasty.
