The service and the wine were great. The food was hit and miss. Out of 5 dishes we had in the vegetarian tasting menu, 2 were good and 3 just weird. No, pea sorbet is not a thing - and there's no reason to have peas in 3 or of the 5 dishes we had.
Wonderful. We shared 2 appetizers - both delicious and of a good size. My partner had the pork chop & I had the pasta. So delicious. I love that there’s an upscale restaurant where there are so many vegetarian options.
First impression once you walk in at Forage is how cozy and cute the place looks. It is perfect date night restaurant, but celebrating special event is probably perfectly appropriate as well (judging by the wine list at least). We had the 4 course wine dinner. Food and wine were paired in a way like they were meant to be enjoyed at the same time. The servers were so friendly and easy going, it was almost feeling we were visiting friends.
The food was excellent! We had the tasting menu, and every dish was a treat. In addition, the waitstaff was knowledgeable and quite attentive, and the decor was unusual and beautiful. We arrived early enough to have the place to ourselves, but as place filled up, it became relatively noisy, especially given how close together the tables were. That said, we were in a relatively small front room; the restaurant opened a larger room later, and that may have been quieter. I will be back!
Much like many of the other reviews for this restaurant, it did not live up to expectations. For the cost of the Tasting Menu and a bottle of wine it was quite subpar and lacked the flavor that was expected from a restaurant of its caliber. The staff was attentive and the ambiance was very nice.
This is the third time I've dined here, and each time it's been outstanding, both in terms of the quality of the food and drink, but also in terms of the warmth and attentiveness of the staff. The wine pairings are particularly thoughtful, delicious, and interesting!
Excellent food and wine list. Loved the vegetarian tasting menu.
The staff was very welcoming and attentive. Food was delicious and fresh tasting. Mussels were definitely a highlight. On the pricier side but certainly due to the fresh and local ingredients used.
Forage was absolutely amazing! The menu was fun and flavorful. Wait staff was incredible, very attentive and great at explaining the menu.
A little more pricey than an average night out, but perfect for date night or special occasion.
Intimate, cozy space with about 10 tables and limited bar space. Makes you feel like the meal was made especially for you. Knowledgeable waitress who gave us solid cocktail and wine advice. Delicious menu that was certainly out of the ordinary. Looking forward to returning.
It was our first time going to Forage, and they were having their annual Tiki Night, which was really fun! They gave us leis when we got their, there was great tiki-themed music playing all night, and all of the tike-themed food and drinks were delicious. We'll definitely go back another time to try the regular menu, too!
This mushroom dinner with paired wines was one of the best meals I've ever had.
Forage will be my celebration restaurant for a long time to come. We're looking forward
to a Monday vegetarian dinner...
This is a gem of a restaurant. Intimate, casual fine dining with no pretensions! I just love it! Food, wine, service and ambience all are terrific.
Absolutely incredible. Forage couldn't be better for a special occasion.
Another inventive and delicious meal at Forage. We are routinely surprised by new ingredients that their food and cocktail menu introduces us to. Seasonal, interesting, and always, always tasty. They were pretty busy on a Saturday night, and so it took a while to have our cocktail order taken, but after that, they were right back in the groove of offering excellent service and a wonderful dinner.
Everything was top notch. From the service, to the food, to the wine. We did the Omnivore tasting menu with wine pairing and loved every last bite and sip. Atmosphere is wonderful and staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Already looking forward to our next visit.
Fantastic food paired with great wine selections. Also, the service was top notch, will be going back soon!
Forage is such a gem. One of the best meals I have ever had was when they first opened about a year and a half ago. They did something magical with chrysanthemum greens, and they made an amazing lamb dish. Every time I go back, they continue to create great meals. I look forward to summer and going back to see what they will be conjuring up next.
I liked this restaurant a lot and look forward to returning soon / adding it to our rotation of regular faves. Food was excellent quality and wines by the glass were interesting and thoughtfully paired. Mussels portion is very large - almost a meal in itself.
The food at Forage was very tasty, local, and unique. My wife and I both had the tasting menu paired with wine and we both enjoyed it a lot. It ended up being about $100 per person and at that price level it's difficult to assess value. I really enjoyed that the tasting menu is not listed, so it could have been a complete surprise if we had not asked what was on it. It would be cool if Forage would go to the Hospitality-Included pricing that many upscale restaurants are going to these days.
Forage was especially odd, in that the food was so perfectly, consistently lacking in depth of flavor. This, to a degree that it was clearly purposeful; there's something zen that the chef is going for. While there were some strong flavors (vinegary pickled carrots and mushrooms, sea salt ice cream, turkey prosciutto), ultimately, nothing added up to anything delicious. There was little play with richness, umami, or savory, and many bites lacked proper seasoning or interplay between flavors.
Even the cocktails, though perfectly balanced, tasted... empty, almost as if they were watered down. Though I think- again, this was purposeful, because it was so utterly consistent (we tried 3 different cocktails which all thad this same character).
Forage is definitely a unique experience with a creative, risk-taking chef, putting together quirky dishes with unusual ingredients- things I usually love. Unfortunately, if you are expecting something... tasty... this is not the place.
Fantastic food and knowledgeable service.
We have eaten here twice, and it is always welcoming and cosy and the service is friendly and knowledgeable. Some of the dishes have been outstanding, especially the desserts and the mussel dishes.
The menu features local (New England) meats and produce prepared in original and tasty ways. The waitstaff share responsibility for all tables, so we were waited on by a number of charming, helpful people. The result was service that was attentive and timely but not intrusive.
excellent, great vegan and veggie tasting menus, lovely wine pairing, knowledgeable staff
What a delightful and relaxing dining experience! Forage has something for everyone. As a person with a serious gluten allergy who doesn't eat red meat, accompanied by a 20-year daughter who is vegan, I am accustomed to being apologetic when ordering food. It was so refreshing to have our waitress (who was the BEST waitress ever) tell us that vegan and GF were not a problem. My daughter and I each ordered from the tasting menu and were delighted with each new item we tasted. Subtle, but beautiful flavors in each and every bite. And they pace it so that it is a very relaxing evening and you never worry that you need to vacate the table for another customer. I wish I could eat there every week, but live an hour away. Oh, and I don't want to forget - fantasitic wine list. Fun and serious wines that you don't usually see.
The food was excellent, and the host graciously provided us with plenty of extra tastings.
Inventive, dazzling use of local vegetables and cheeses make for a dining adventure. Owner Stan and his chef and staff are passionate about Forage and we felt it in every detail: house made blackberry shrub (vinegar) in the cocktail, pickled zucchini purée drizzled on the thyme-roasted sweet potato, mycoterra mushroom pasta (!), and a divine cardamom rice pudding to finish. Heaven!
Had 4 course vegetarian tasting menu. It was OK. Flavors could have been stronger. And weird combinations: pistachio ice cream with rice pudding? Highlight was the cocktails which were tasty.
We decided on 4 course omnivore w pairing wines-
Not up to expectations as far as timely service , but kind and polite treatment.
Skimpy wine amount-
Hot and noisy surroundings
Interesting courses and food was good - steak dinner and desert excellent.
Service, food and ambiance were excellent. Fine dining and wines at a price that is not too dear. What a lovely lovely gem of a restaurant!!!! Their wine dinners on Tuesday cannot be beat -food and wine pairings for only $50. Plus, I go by myself and feel welcomed and comfortable doing so. I just adore this place!!!!
This is my favorite place in the Boston area, hands down. Everything about the experience is top notch. Treat yourself to a prix fixe dinner and you won’t regret it! :)
Amazing staff, beautiful food, gracious hosts. We will definitely be back.
From the service to the food the entire experience was sublime. After taking the orders the waitress asked if there are any food allergies or intolerances the kitchen needs to be aware of. There was, and a rather unusual one, the waitress never flinched and the food issue was taken care of it on the spot.
Excellent food prepared with interesting and unusual ingredients. Cocktails are also finely crafted with interesting and unusual ingredients... So win-win on the entire meal. Definitely do not go with a picky eater and be open to trying new takes on classic meals.
A real gem!!!! Tucked away in the basement of a residential building, Forage is a wonderfully cozy place and offers incredible value. The food is outstanding - inventive yet very, very honest and tasty, nothing overly fancy that makes your eyes roll. They offer various tasting menu options including very attractive vegetarian ones. The quality of the seafood, meat, and produce all were outstanding, as were the wines (also a tasting menu option). Service is unpretentious yet cordial and attentive. Everything just perfect!
Service was very good. After a snafu with our drink order, the staff presented a complimentary cheese coarse, and champagne at the end of the meal. Nice touch!
Outstanding food both in choice and quality. Service needs to be improved..long wait between courses and server seemed to be inexperienced.
The owner and staff are so welcoming and attentive. The food combines a reliace on local ingredients with seasoning combinations that are inspired. I have been here often and have always left well fed and charmed.
